(Chapter 7: Giga Bowser Rides Again)
Two days had passes since Zelda died. Link was an emotional wreck, and whenever the others tried to cheer him up, he simply lashed out at them, without apologizing. Later that night, rain poured down from the sky nonstop. Lightning flashed wildly in the sky. In a place like Saffron, a spectacle like a thunderstorm was a sight to behold. In the room beside Mario and Link’s, Meta Knight could be heard singing “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)”...very, very badly.
“WELL I COULD WALK FIVE HUNDREEED MILES AND I COULD WALK FIVE HUNDREEED MORE! JUST TO BE THE MAN, WHO WALKED A THOUSAND MILES AND SOMETHING- SOMETHING AT YOUR DOOR!”
Link pounded the wall and yelled, “Shut up!!” at the top of his lungs. Meta Knight fell silent.
Suddenly, a small quake occurred, and a low guttural roar could be heard in the distance. The quakes got louder and louder, and Mario looked out the window, noticing a giant Koopa with bloodshot eyes rampaging its way through the city, with Zero standing on top of its head. The ever familiar Giga Bowser was alive, storming through Saffron City, destroying buildings and killing its civilians. Giga made eye contact with Mario, and shot a blast of fire right for his hotel room, shattering the window. The fire breath lit the end of Mario’s cape on fire and quickly put it out. Giga approached the hotel room, standing in front of the destroyed window, leering at Mario and Link. Meta Knight, Marth, and the rest soon entered.
“So,” Zero began. “I bet you’re surprised that Giga Bowser is alive, are you not?”
Mario glared at Zero, at the same time wondering how Giga Bowser survived the fight.
“He wasn’t dead, you fool,” Zero said bitterly. “He was simply exhausted... and let’s not forget that the battle took place 3 days ago. Everything regains energy after a good rest, just like Giga here. And my Polygon army shall soon being their reign of terror upon this city, taking you with them.”
At that point, Zero’s polygons entered the city, running across rooftops and flying in the air, using whatever they had at their disposal of weapons or attacks to destroy the city.
“There is no escape this time, Smashers!” Zero blared. “This world is mine, and I intend to keep it!”
Three polygons, a Sonic polygon, an Ike polygon, and a Lucas polygon stormed into the room.
“Gentlemen!” Marth announced, looking at Link and Meta Knight. “Let’s plow the road!”
The three sword wielders charged for the small heard of polygons and made short work of them, and the group left the room. They headed for an elevator, only to realize it was out of order. Beside them was a stairway, and ran up to the top of the roof, where they could see all of Saffron City and its beautiful yet horrifying state of destruction.
“This can’t be happening!” Gold cried.
“Oh, but it is, my lad!” Zero retorted.
Fox stepped forward and looked below, watching as Polygons marched through the city, destroying everything in their path. Giga Bowser was slowly approaching the hotel, with Zero floating beside him, cackling away like a madman. Suddenly, a gunshot was heard, and Fox fell over the side of the roof. Down he fell, with Giga Bowser lunging for him and swallowing him whole. The Smashers turned around, seeing that Falco was holding his blaster.
“My work here is done,” the falcon said and whistled, his Arwing zooming in over the city. Falco jumped into the air and inside his Arwing, leaving the remaining Smashers to deal with Giga Bowser and Zero’s army. From the staircase emerged more polygons, a group of Captain Falcon polygons.
“Surely you remember these fellows,” Zero chortled. “The one that had the potential to kill you all. While you may have defeated ONE Captain Falcon clone, there is no chance you can defeat five of them!”
A lightning bolt hit the building, and Mario was sent flying off. Meta Knight deployed his wings from his cape and went to his rescue, only for his own polygon clone to chase after him. Mario freed himself from Meta Knight’s grip and landed on a smaller building no bigger than an average coffee shop like Tim Horton’s. Meta Knight and his clone clashed their swords together, putting up what seemed to be an even fight, until the clone transformed into a tornado and plowed its way towards Meta, spinning him around and throwing him into a metal fence.
A red polygon with a Mario design hopped up onto the rooftop and confronted Mario, tackling him into a wall only to receive a kick in the chest in return. It flew off the rooftop and shattered into pieces. Meanwhile, the group on top of the hotel fought valiantly, trying to ward off the clones. The C. Falcon polygons were soon defeated, and Zero growled in rage.
“Grr! Bowser, get them!!”
Giga Bowser stormed towards the hotel, its nostrils steaming and its footsteps creating small quakes. It punched the hotel, causing it to crumble and fall over, with Marth falling over the side. Giga Bowser grabbed him, and went to take a bite, when suddenly...
“FALCON KICK!!”
A flaming kick came out of nowhere, bonking Giga Bowser in the nose and dropping Marth. The Koopa turned around and eyed his prey; Captain Falcon and Marth.
“Don’t let them get away!” Zero belted. Bowser raised its foot and went to step on them, only to miss and crush a stoplight.
BOOM!!!
A massive explosion occurred in the distance, and more polygons could be seen emerging from the blaze.
“Okay, what’re we going to do now?” Red asked.
“We split up,” Marth said. “His pet can’t come after all of us at once if we’re split up.”
“He has the polygons, remember?” Gold shot back.
“We fight as one,” Mario stated. They all went and attacked Giga Bowser at once, but their attacks only caused the deformed Koopa king to let out a small whimper and stumble backwards.
“It’s no good,” Meta Knight said. “Even as a whole group, we can’t defeat this thing.”
A spinning blue ball came out of nowhere and pelted Giga Bowser in the chest, and the giant turtle stumbled back again. The blue ball attacked Giga again and again, hitting him at such blinding speed it was impossible to see. Giga Bowser continued getting hit until he was right in front of the explosion that was caused moments ago. The blue ball stopped attacking for a brief second and was revealed to be none other than Sonic the Hedgehog. Sonic charged up his Spin-Dash attack and tackled Giga in the chest with so much force the Koopa King fell over onto his back, flailing his arms and legs as he burned in the fire. Zero hovered above them, looking down upon The Smashers as they surveyed the damage cause by Zero’s pet.
“Gah!” The cape-wearing hedgehog spat. “Why?! Why can’t I ever defeat you!? What is it about you that allows you to prevail?!” He clenched his hands into fists and continued. “But, it is of no concern to me that you won. You may have won the battle, but you haven’t won the war! This is FAR from over!!”
He vanished in a puff of smoke, and the group turned to face Sonic.
“You came at the-a right time,” Mario said. “Had you not helped, we’d be dead... and two of us already are dead...”
“No problem,” Sonic replied. “But... what do we do now? The city is in total ruins.”
“Not to mention we’ve lost Fox, Zelda, and Falco,” Link bitterly said.
“We may as well get moving,” Pikachu said softly.
“And where to we go from here?!?” Marth snapped. “The entire CITY is destroyed! We have nowhere to go! This was going to be our hideaway until we were ready to take down Zero and his army once and for all!”
“I’m not the one who made the decision to come here,” Pikachu retorted. “We came here because it was the closest city away from Zero’s tower, not because we were going to use it to prepare for a showdown.”
“Yeah, well that worked wonders, didn’t it?” Link sneered.
“Nobody could’ve seen this coming,” Captain Falcon said. “There was no way we could have predicted it, let alone prepare for it.”
“Oh please,” Link shot back. “This is Zero we’re talking about here. Something like this is right up his alley, as it is with every other villain out there. And then Falco kills Fox and the latter gets devoured by Giga Bowser.”
“And you did a wonderful job of preventing that!” Gold hissed.
“Alright! Everybody shut the hell up!!” Mario blared. “This has gone on long enough! There was NOTHING, I repeat, NOTHING we could have done to know that Zero would attack this city, although we should’ve known he would. Fox and Zelda’s deaths are nobody’s fault, and Falco’s betrayal doesn’t help with the situation. Everyone just shut up.”
There was a long period of silence before Mario spoke up again. “We should leave the city. In this state of destruction there’s no chance of it being rebuilt.”
“Brilliant observation there,” Meta Knight said.
“Now is not the time to start having your periods,” Sonic snapped. “If anything, we should get the hell out of here before something else happens.”
“Who died and made you leader?” Link retorted.
“He’s right,” Mario said. “We must go, before something else happens.”
“Oh and what about Zelda, hm?!” Link bitterly asked.
“The entire hospital was demolished when the hotel fell on it,” Captain Falcon said.
“Yeah...” Mario said. “Now let’s get moving before something else happens.”
