(Chapter 5: Battle with the Polygon Army)
----------------------------------------------------
I: The Polygons Attack
----------------------------------------------------
Zero’s Polygon army charged for Mario and his allies, and was itching for a fight. The Smashers readied themselves for the oncoming onslaught of their clones as they homed in on them. There wasn’t much room for battle, and at the last minute, The Smashers bolted out, with their clones staying behind, dumbfounded. Zero was floating in the air, and pointed at them, yelling “Don’t just stand there, you fools! After them!” The Polygons ran out of the room and followed Mario and his comrades to where the plumber had encountered Zero. The Mario Polygon grabbed the end of Mario’s yellow cape and pulled him to the ground, and proceeded to roundhouse kick the plumber. Mario swung his head to his left from the attack, and his clone grabbed him and threw him into a wall.
Ike’s polygon kicked him in the stomach, causing Ike to slightly jump back, but the warrior used his Aether attack to make short work of his clone. One down, four to go.
****
Silver found no trace of Roserade whatsoever, that is, until he found himself riding in a barren wasteland covered in sand, where he noticed small footprints. He followed them, and eventually found Roserade, sitting in a tree.
“Did you really think you could escape me?” Silver taunted.
“No, because you humans will use whatever you can to capture us Pokemon. How’d you find me, a heat detector?”
“You left footprints in the sand; I followed them and eventually found you.”
“Ah, so you aren’t a complete dip after all.”
Silver had an annoyed look on his face. He looked to his right, then back at Roserade. “Just get down from there and come with me.”
“If you can beat me I’ll come with you,” Roserade replied.
“If it’s a fight you want, it’s a fight you’ll get! Get him, Magneton!”
****
The Smashers struggled to take on their polygonal foes, and so far, only Ike had defeated his clone. Zero floated high above the ground and watched as The Smashers attempted to defeat their copies. “It’s no use,” he said.
Pikachu’s clone jumped into the air and used Quick Attack, but the little rodent dodged and assault and Skull Bashed his opponent, who went flying into a wall. Fox’s clone was spamming his blaster to death, but Fox’s reflector made short work of his clone. Three were down, and only two remained.
****
Roserade jumped down from the tree and landed about 20 feet away from Silver’s Magneton. “Mag-net-on...”
Roserade charged for Magneton and jumped into the air, and swooped down, its fist glowing. Magneton barely dodged the attack and retaliated with Thunderbolt. Roserade jumped out of the way and shot Magneton with Magical Leaf, only to see the attack bounce off Magneton’s body without doing any damage.
“That’s right...” Roserade said. “Magneton is a Steele-type now, too... and Steele-types are weak against fighting attacks. Let’s try Dynamic Punch ONE MORE TIME!”
Roserade dashed after Magneton again, its right fist glowing a brilliant white. Magneton attempted to dodge the attack but was too slow; it was hit full-force by Roserade’s Dynamic Punch and fainted.
“Magneton, return!” Silver pulled out his Poke Ball, and a red beam engulfed Magneton and sucked it back inside. “Typhlosion, take him down!” He tossed another Poke Ball and out came his Typhlosion, letting out a vicious roar and the fire around its neck lighting up. Roserade didn’t stand a chance.
****
Falco’s clone was possibly the most strategic of the Polygons they were fighting. Every move Falco made was countered by his polygonal counterpart, whether it were a punch, a kick, or an attempt to throw it. Falco charged his foe and did a sliding kick, knocking the polygon creature into the air. When it landed, Falco put his left foot on its chest and pointed his blaster at its head.
“Stay put,” he demanded, but the clone didn’t listen, and knocked Falco’s gun away and kicked him in the stomach. It proceeded to throw him into the air and kick him multiple times, before finally letting Falco hit the ground. As his opponent went to body slam him, Falco used his Fire Bird attack, and shot upward with so much friction that he was set on fire. He destroyed his clone and landed without harm, and all that remained now was Mario.
****
“Well, well, a Typhlosion?” Roserade taunted. “You finally decided to put some strategy into this fight, and all it took was the defeat of your Magneton. But even with a type advantage, it still won’t be enough to defeat me.”
“Typhlosion, use Flame Wheel!”
Typhlosion curled up into a ball and dashed towards Roserade, the embers on its neck turning it into a ball of fire. Roserade dodged the attack, and Typhlosion turned around and hit him from behind. Roserade flew up into the air and used Magical Leaf again, but Typhlosion burned them all. As Roserade made a quick yet graceful decent towards the ground, Silver ordered Typhlosion to attack with Flamethrower. Roserade unwillingly took the hit and was thrown into the tree from which it came, and was on the verge of defeat.
“So, human, I’ll admit that you have trained your Typhlosion quite well... but that still doesn’t mean you can defeat me. Your Typhlosion is growing tired from this pointless match.”
“What you don’t realize is that in one more move, you’ll be coming back with me!”
“Yes...you can go and keep thinking that.”
“Typhlosion! Finish this with Overheat!!”
Typhlosion’s entire body began to glow red, and launched a massive blast of fire at Roserade, even bigger than that of Flamethrower. The attack engulfed Roserade, and when Typhlosion stopped the attack, they stared in shock, as Roserade was still standing.
****
Mario’s clone was going all-out offensive. It didn’t let up with its barrage of punches and kicks, it just kept continuing without giving Mario a chance to fight back.
“Good!” Zero exclaimed. “Finish him off!”
Mario’s clone charged up a massive fire ball which would surely kill him if it hit, and just before it fired the attack, the clone took on onslaught of Fox’s blaster’s lasers, and after ten or so hits, the polygon fighter exploded.
“Thanks, Fox,” Mario replied.
“No! This cannot be! The polygons lost?!” Zero blared. “Grr!” He charged up a Shadow Ball (Mewtwo’s trademark attack) between his hands and fired it, narrowly missing Fox and Mario. “You may have won this time, but I will emerge victorious in the end!”
****
Typhlosion was running out of energy. It was on the verge of fainting, yet Roserade looked perfectly fine. Typhlosion stood there, panting, while Roserade simply stared back, with its arms crossed.
“How did... how did you survive that last attack?”
Roserade chuckled. “It’s a move called Light Screen. It sets up a glass wall that can be used to defend against attacks like Overheat. And now, it’s time for this fight to come to an end.”
Roserade jumped into the air and gathered energy from the sun, absorbing it in the two flowers which made up its hands. He fired a powerful yellow beam at Silver’s Typhlosion, who was too weak to dodge the attack and took it full-force. Roserade’s Solarbeam attack managed to finish the job, because Typhlosion fainted.
“It looks like I win,” Roserade said, and walked away.
****
Zero continued to float above the ground, staring down upon the Smashers with hatred in his eyes. His Fighting Polygons had lost, but he knew that this wasn’t the end. He threw open his cape, which revealed that he was wearing a black shirt and blue pants. Around his wrists were grey, thick, metal bands going halfway up his lower arm, and also had the bands around his legs. He was wearing black boots, as well as black gloves. Around his waist was a black belt with a golden buckle. Between his two hands, he charged up another Shadow Ball and fired it at them. Mario and Fox dodged this attack as well, and Zero continued to attack.
“You won’t escape here alive!” He belted, continuing to fire Shadow Balls. He watched their movements and began charging another one and fired it at Mario, who took the attack and flew into another wall.
“Pikachu!” Pikachu yelled, and attacked with Thunderbolt. Zero placed out his left palm and absorbed the attack and fired it back at the yellow rodent, and dodged.
“We gotta get out of here!” Mario stated, and they took the door behind them and went to run out the door, but from the rooftop came a Captain Falcon polygon and roundhouse kicked them all.
Looks like they aren’t free, after all.
-------------------------------------------
II: Falcon vs. Falcon
-------------------------------------------
Meta Knight, Link, Red, Marth, and Captain Douglas Jay Ezekiel Moses Jeremiah Peregrine Falcon, were all walking in a straight path, telling one another random things that have happened in their lives.
“I remember this one time,” Red started, “I was listening to ‘I Fought the Law’, by the Bobby Fuller Four, and....um... I have no idea what I’m talking about.”
“Sensors detect fail,” Marth replied. “And do you guys see that giant tower up ahead?”
“Yeah, I do,” Link replied. “What’s that all about?”
The approached the massive tower, and after they were at least 40 feet or so away, noticed that the polygon in front was making the same idle movement as Captain Falcon, and its body structure was the same as well.
“Hahaha,” Link laughed. “It looks just like you!”
“Yeeeeeeaah...” Falcon said, and charged for his polygonal clone from the side. He tackled it out of the way, and the polygon slid across the ground on its feet, without even losing its balance. It turned to the F-Zero pilot and went to tackle him, but missed.
Captain Falcon was now fighting himself.
****
As he was returning back to the police station, Silver noticed a Pidgeot gracefully flying in the sky above him.
“Hm... I’ve never had a Pidgeot before... and it WOULD make a nice addition to my team and work as another type advantage should I encounter that Roserade again...”
However, he was not the only one after this Pidgeot. Behind him was Gold, a trainer whom he had battle numerous times, only to lose in the end.
”Hey, Silver!” Gold called out. “I take it you’re going after that Pidgeot?”
“Yeah, what’s it to you?”
“Well, it just so happens that I’m after that Pidgeot as well. Whaddya say we battle for it? Winner gets to go after Pidgeot?”
“Hm... sounds fine by me.”
Gold tossed his Poke Ball, and out popped a Beedrill. Silver threw one of his, and Magneton appeared. The fight for Pidgeot was on.
****
Captain Falcon’s clone was relentless. It punched, kicked, and even Falcon Punched the original without mercy.
“Falcon Kick!” Captain Falcon used his famous flaming kick attack and hit the polygon in the chest, and proceeded to uppercut the clone and thrust-kick it. The purple-blue polygon fumbled around in the air before finally hitting the ground. Zero was floating above the ground as he watched the two battle it out.
“Shouldn’t we help him??” Falco asked.
“No,” Red replied. “Let him handle it on his own.”
The clone weakly got up and threw its left arm forward. It proceeded to hold out its hand and make a swinging motion. Falcon charged the clone and tackled it, and the clone toppled over like a ton of bricks.
“Show me your moves!” Falcon taunted, and the clone got up without a scratch.
****
“Magneton, use Thunderbolt!”
Magneton shot beams of electricity out of the magnets on its body, with Beedrill dodging them. Before Silver could order Magneton to do another move, Beedrill was jabbing its stingers into Magneton’s steel body, albeit the damage it was causing was minimal.
“Thunderbolt, again!”
Magneton attacked with Thunderbolt for the second time, and it was a direct hit. Beedrill was hit by the electrical attack and was pushed backwards, before finally fainting. Gold called his Beedrill back and sent out an Arcanine. “Arcanine, use Flamethrower!”
Arcanine shot a stream of fire from its mouth at Magneton, hitting the middle Magnemite and throwing it back into Silver. Silver was hit by his Magneton and fell to the ground. He called out his Typhlosion, who made short work of Arcanine using Take Down. Gold was on his last Pokemon, and threw out his Poke Ball only for a Feraligatr to appear.
****
Falcon stared in shock as his clone charged for him. It had taken a massive beating just moments ago, and it wasn’t even damaged, let alone tired. It ran closer to Falcon and came to a dead halt in front of him, and roundhouse kicked him. Falcon flew sideways into the side of the building and hit the ground with a thud, and Mario noticed two Pokemon trainers fighting each other in the distance.
Falcon got up from the ground and body-chucked his clone, which lingered back and was met with a barrage of punches coming from the original. After this, Falcon used his Raptor Boost and sent it flying into the air, and Falcon Punched it. The clone flew into a nearby tree, catching Silver’s and Gold’s attention.
“What was that?” Silver said, alarmed. Suddenly, his Typhlosion was hit with Hydro Pump, coming from Gold’s Feraligatr. The force of the attack was enough for the Typhlosion to faint, and Silver leered at his opponent.
“You can’t do that,” he angrily said. “All it does is prove that you’re a wimp, and it seems that from all those times we fought in the past, you still are one.” Silver gave Gold one last stare and continued on to capture Pidgeot.
“Hey, I thought the winner—“
Before Gold could even finish, Silver gave him the finger and went on. Curious as to what was happening with Captain Falcon, Gold went over to check it out.
“Hey guys,” Gold said. “What happened here?”
“Do you want the truth?” Meta Knight asked.
“Yeah, I would.”
“You want the truth? You want the truth?! YOU CAN’T HANDLE THE TRUTH!”
Meta Knight was pushed aside and Captain Falcon explained what had happened.
“This guy has apparently built hundreds, possibly even THOUSANDS of clones based on The Smashers. And what you saw minutes ago was me battling the Captain Falcon clone.”
Mario confirmed what Falcon had said with a nod, and then turned to face the rest of the group. A gentle breeze blew his yellow cape to the left.
“Okay... so what should a-we do now? We can’t stay here.”
“We should head to Saffron City,” Red stated. “We’ll be safe there.”
And with that, the group went onward to Saffron City.
