It was hot.
Lothwellyn lay morosely on his side, breathing as little as possible, and watched the rabbit move closer. He’d been lying there all day, since before the sun had risen, letting the creature acclimatize to his presence.
At first it had refused to leave its burrow. Then, a nose peaked out, followed shortly after by its head. It had stared at him for a minute, and then ducked back down.
A few minutes later it was back. It took a short, tentative hop into the open air, and paused there for some time. The nervous creatures shuffled about, glancing at Lothwellyn, glancing skyward, inching this way and that, glancing at Lothwellyn - back into the burrow. So it had gone for hours. Each foray out the rabbit moved further and further from its burrow, and slowly, the rabbit forgot about him. The Sun climbed high into the Sky.
And it was hot.
Soon his sun scorched vigil would be over though, and the rabbit safely within his belly. The rabbit was finally wandering his way, and would soon be in range of an echolocator burst. Yes. Soon it would be over, and he would retreat back under the trees, away from Sun and Sky.
But even as he relished the thought of shade, he detected the faintest telltale vibrations of approaching footsteps.
The rabbits ears twitched, and Lothwellyn’s heart sank.

☆ ★ Just take my hand. We're gonna reach for the stars! ★ ☆ Someone else was out to enjoy the warm day as well. In fact, they also had food on their brain.. although they had very different sorts of dieting. Hey, Katie wouldn't exactly be judging.. she just didn't really feel like risking just biting into something raw and wriggling. Well.. sushi was alright. That was the raw part right? At least.. sushi was raw right? Was that a myth? She might have glanced at her phone for the answer, but she wasn't exactly having these thoughts. No, her eyes were hard at work to find the bestest of best spots to lay down her blanket. Relax in her adorable outfit, and eating.. well, not adorable food. Someone was trying to do that.. but it wasn't her. Not to harp on that. Eventually though, a sort of all too familiar feeling started to surface, bubbling at the back of her head. A restless adventuring sort of spirit. She saw a tree.. why not walk right up it? Just saying those words in her mind gave her a sort of giddy glee. She was still breaking in these sweet kicks, and was finding all sorts of excuses to use it. So walking up a tree she would go.. and she hoped there was a sweet kinda view up on top. With all the sounds one might expect.. a whole lot of rustling and bustling. Occasionally a creak or two.. was this tree old? It looked alright.. A little too much fourth wall breaking on this post for my taste. Decided to keep it though. Katie uses her FlowMotion boots to walk up a tree. OUTFIT♥

Lothwellyn lunged as the rabbit turned to bolt, but it was already too late. His concussive shriek kicked up a small cloud of dust where the rabbit had been a moment before, and he landed face down in the dirt, his hands empty. His lunch disappeared down its hole, never to be seen again.
Lothwellyn stared at the hole for a long, long moment. And then he screamed. Screamed with rage and frustration and hunger. It was a piercing, alien sound that no human could ever hope to produce, and it cut through the air like a knife. He leaped to his feet and kicked at the rabbit hole, kicked at the dust, kicked at the grass, and cursed the rabbit and all its descendants.
Finally he settled, embarrassed. He was not usually prone to such rage, but the events of the past two weeks had been...taxing. His comrades were slain and dead, and he was lost beyond all sense and reason. His poor eyes could not even see that he wandered under alien stars; that they were not the same shimmering beacons that the Fey and Vembril gods had descended from. And now, glancing about in shame, he could see no further than a mere hundred feet or so. Beyond that, only shimmering light.
Huffing and once more feeling the Sun's heat, he scanned his limited horizon. The Sun was a terrible God to behold, though it gave life to all those under its watch. It's shining warmth raised the plants, the green children of the Earth, and its light guided those who stood tall and saw far. But it burned and hated; a cruel God, and so great was its vanity that it could not even be looked upon.
But it was not his God.
Terrible too was the Sky, the boundless void of space and thought. His people abhorred and feared it, to be exposed, to be without the tender embrace of the Earth. How those creatures blessed with eyes could endure it, Lothwellyn did not know. Could any being truly comprehend its expanse? To gaze upon infinity? To be under the Sky was to be small and frail, for the Sky was vast and endless.
But it was not his God.
The Earth was the God of his people. It gave them their name, the Embraced, and held them close within her bosom. From her were they all composed, and to her they and all things would return. She was the keeper of the those who were and those who were yet to be. Lothwellyn was suddenly ashamed that he had struck her, and he prostrated himself. Touching his forehead to the ground, he begged her forgiveness.
But The Earth was his God no longer.
Lothwellyn had been cast out from the Earth, and would return only in death. The only reason he was not dead now was because of his breeding. It had not been clear whether his crimes were the result of his own character, or of the unrefined independence that had been bred into him. Unjust, the Embraced had deemed it, to sentence him based on his nature. They had granted him a cruel mercy, and sent him from his home. He would live, but he would live without a home, without a people, and without a God.
But a God he had nonetheless.
Rising, he began to make his way towards the lone tree within his field of vision. He would cool himself in the shade before moving on.

☆ ★ Just take my hand. We're gonna reach for the stars! ★ ☆ The sound was a chilling sort, frightening to the young woman who had reached the tip of the tree. A chilling sort of sound that left goosebumps along her skin as she scanned the area. What could have made such a sound? She found out her answer, spotting something running along to her location. What filled her heart was indeed fear, as the sound was one that inspired such a feeling. A shiver down her spine as she tried to keep her position up her secret.. paranoia setting in her mind. Was it truly secret? Was the noise directed at her? No.. silence would follow. There was however a problem. Perhaps, if she was a different sort of person she could quietly rest up here.. and her and the strange looking being that was coming along to the tree could never know of each other's existence. She could be left with that sound, and her curosity, and her safety. Yes.. all of those things. However, she was not someone else. She was Katie Weathers. Katie Weathers didn't sit still when fear filled her.. she moved. She acted. When she didn't know something.. she found it out. If someone's intentions weren't clear.. she gained clarity. Her mind raced light lighting but she could find no answers inside.. there was only one way to quiet her thoughts. "Hello?" she called out in a loud voice, attempting to alert what was behind of her presence. She would find her answer in the coming moments. Katie Weathers says hello to what is sure to be her new best friend.

Lothwellyn stopped and instinctively bared his teeth. He was much closer to the tree now, about thirty feet away, but still could not see the source of the voice. Though its shape was now distinct to him, its features blended together into a single solid feature. And it was from there that the voice had come.
Swelling, Lothwellyn filled his vast lungs and let out a series of deep, shuddering clicks. Immediately the tree grew clearer in his mind; took form and dimension, and he gained insight no human would ever possess. Through the air he felt the hard denseness of the bark, the sturdy smooth shield that so easily reflected his echolocation. He could feel the sturdy branches at the base, the spry flexibility of the upper limbs. The leaves created radiating fractals of sound as the clicks returned to him, scattering this way and that. And up atop the tree's crown, he felt the tell tale echo of soft flesh.
Lothwellyn settled into a scowl. It was undoubtedly a human, and she was undoubtedly afraid. The humans always feared him, and unless it drove them to violence, Lothwellyn was fine with that. Lothwellyn was hot, tired, and without his prey. So without a doubt, she was going to have to deal with him being there. He began moving towards the tree again, walking slowly but deliberately.
"Hhhail!" He called, projecting his voice like no human could. Even now, his toothy mouth struggled to form the words. "I comme to resst under wonderr trree. Fffear not, thhough you havve rrobbed mme of mmy sspoilss."

☆ ★ Just take my hand. We're gonna reach for the stars! ★ ☆ Oh? Her curiosity peaked, and her mind started to race again. She had to admit, she wasn't 100% sure what she was expecting.. but it was rare that things turned out more in the direction that she hoped. Out of all the possible outcomes that had been flying through her mind, of course.. the idea that this was a sentient creature that was not going to attack her was definitely near the top of her list. Now her mind raced with many questions.. thankfully none of which were leaving her lips as a few them could probably be considered rude. She walked along a branch, rustling a feel of the leaves, sitting at the end. She wanted to know everything about it at once.. and she wanted to know if was the sort of thing that would be offended by her thinking of it as an it. "I mean it's everyone's tree buddy, not mine. Although if it was mine, I promise I'd still let ya hang out under it. So um.. what do ya like.. mean.. spoils?" she asked, her mind quickly racing at what this could mean. Which was she was capable of in a faster way then others with less of a pause. Hunting obviously seemed like a good possibly, although she was still worried for a moment that he was attempting to attack prey of the more human variety. Fear was an easy emotion to cling to in this moment.. as she had to admit the presence of what she was seeing was still extremely alarming. Her mind was clinging to a thought though.. she had spoken, and he had spoken back. She wanted to believe that really did mean that whoever this was, they considered communication valid. She lifted her hand, which still had a picnic basket nestled inside. A blanket.. a 12 inch turkey submarine sandwich made just the way she liked. A big bag of salt and vinegar crisps. A liter of fizzy soda. Yes.. she had planned on eating it at all. She had a healthy appetite. "Do you mean food? I mean.. I got some food. If I scared off dinner, I could repay the favor." She supposed he could always pick up something small on the way home.. Is the picnic back on!?

Lothwellyn let out a loud bark as he reached the tree's shade, the sound that passed as a laugh for him.
"Typicalll hhumman," he sneered, sitting heavily against the base of the tree. Her presence annoyed and unsettled him, but he was thankful that she remained aloft. They needn't draw any closer than they already were.
"Thhe tree belongss to no one. Only a hhuman would thhink to own anothher lifffe."
The offer of food surprised him though. It surprised him a great deal. He was not accustomed to hospitality from humans. The girl was small and frail, and had much to fear from him. His expression softened, and he looked up towards her. Through the twilight of the tree's shade, he could see her clearly now.
"Fffor mmany hhhours I endured Ssun and Ssky, waiting to commmune withh thhe fffield'ss b-bounty." He paused and snapped his teeth together, one, two, three times in rapid succession. The difficulty of the words aggravated him. "Your tresspasss sstartled my prey to ssaffety. I acccept your offfer." He turned his gaze away, annoyed.
"Thhank you."

☆ ★ Just take my hand. We're gonna reach for the stars! ★ ☆ "Oh no, not one of those dirty human things that dirty humans do." she said, although she smiled a little. Katie Weathers was a modern girl, and some of this stuff felt vaguely familiar in that wonderful fantasy sort of way. Thoughts of meeting fairies and elves and other such creatures in comic books and books without pictures were prodding at her mind despite her fear. Of course she did still have a healthy dose of that.. the strangers appearance was alarming. However she took the next leap of faith and jumped down from the tree. She was always an athletic girl and it showed in her landing. She figured next time she probably could have attempted a sort of spin jump.. but perhaps a time when landing flat on her back might not carry such dangerous concequences. "I'm Katie.." she said, finding the closest patch of shade that was still a decent distance away from the creature.. doing her very hardest to get an idea of how he was going to start moving before she risked much further. It was still irritated, and it wasn't afraid to show off some teeth. She had to respect that. "Sounds like you had a rough day friend. I promise if I knew you were undergoing some sort of sensitive operation I would have acted a bit more cautiously." she said. The smirked. "I didn't quite know you were here though.." and then, a pause later.. enough time to lay out the first parts of the meal, setting the sandwich on the blanket, on a plate.. she decided to ask her first question. "So I take it you're not from around here?" Katie is definitely not a filthy tricksy hobbitses.

Despite himself, Lothwellyn snarled and scooted away, half rising, as the girl dropped down. In days long past, the Vembril had teased him for his skittishness. They had respected it too - a startled animal was dangerous, and Lothwellyn's frayed nerves had saved their lives more than once. The mere company of the Vembril had probably saved Lothwellyn's, and he eventually found peace in their strange company.
But that was long ago.
The girl seemed over her initial fear of the Embraced, but she too respected his apprehensiveness. "I'm Katie..." she began, sitting a respectful distance away. She continued to speak, but Lothwellyn only half heard her. She began to set out the food she had offered him, and his attention was soon focused there. He sniffed the air, intrigued.
Though most modern food would seem a mystery to him, sandwiches were not. Nor was turkey, his nose was happy to report. With slow, deliberate steps, he approached the girl, sniffed once more, and crouched down across from her. Sitting, crosslegged as Katie was, was difficult for Lothwellyn. The shape of his legs made it painful and awkward without a chair or something to lean on, but he was able to comfortably crouch quite low. Moving slowly so as not to startle her, he drew his dagger and cut the sandwich in half.
"So I take it you're not from around here?"
Lothwellyn flinched. He sheathed his dagger and gingerly raised his half the sandwich to his mouth.
"I do not know where here iss" he confessed. "I wass...accossted by ssome forcce or God. When I awoke, I wass here." He nibbled on the end of his sandwich. Or rather, he he took as small bites as his long, needle like teeth would allow him.
"Ah!" he cried, tasting the sandwich's condiments. "Thiss iss good!" He took a larger bite and swallowed it whole. He peered over the sandwhich, still held close to his face.
"You arre dressed ssstrangely," he said, eyeing the girl suspiciously. He let out a burst of short clicks, examining her further. At this range even her meager senses would allow her to feel his echolocation on her skin. "What placce iss thisss? Havve you newss of the war?"
