General Rules
General Forum Rules of Decency apply here, no flaming, no trolling, keep it PG-13, and no spam.
Creative Writing is the idea here. We're here to come together and have fun while exploring a fictional realm. It doesn't need to degenerate into a huge cockfight over who is the biggest of the bads, or who is the ultimate fighting champion. Which takes us to the next one-
Sportsmanship is crucial here. As staffers, we will do our best to make sure things are balanced one way or another. We encourage you to create your own unique characters, but if you should decide to participate in combat, you aren't guaranteed victory in any circumstance. Whatever the result, victory or loss, be a good sport.
Roleplay Rules
Godmoding Don't do it, please. Godmoding is controlling someone else's character when you otherwise have no permission to do so. It ruins the fun and just makes you look like an ass. If you suspect someone of Godmod, instead of jumping to tattle to a staffer, bring it to their attention. It may not have been intentional, or the perpetrator may even have permission from the characters owner.
Powerplaying Another fun ruiner. When someone unjustly acts the almighty badass, avoiding all damage while autohitting everyone else, it just makes people avoid playing with your character. Play fair, y'all, losing isn't going to be the death of you. The big bosses that drive the plot are powerful, but by no means are they invincible. They're simply meant for at least two players to face, or even one very skilled writer, if you've got the guts.
Metagaming This is a horrible crime against any good plot. Metagaming is using IC knowledge that your character would not have access to while in-game aka IC, but rather that you the RPer had discovered OOCly, or Out Of Context, outside the RP. It ruins good narratives, but is sadly often easy to do on accident. If this occurs, it will be brought to the attention of the perpetrator before any warnings are issued.
Turn Order Turn order is the order in which the first round of posts are made. We ask that you stick to this order in main RP threads. We understand, however, that sometimes unforseen circumstances come into play. Therefore, a time limit of 96 hours, four days, will be put in place for story threads. Should a player fail to post within this limit, they may be skipped over. In sensitive cases, such as combat or otherwise important situations, a staffer will post in their stead with the goal of removing themselves from the sensitive situation, or, in the worst case scenario, leaving the thread. Powerplaying against this character is still not allowed. Remember that, overall, this applies only to threads pertaining to the main RP plot, all other threads are subject to the choice of the participants, or just left as these default conditions.
RP Info
Characters
You can app as many characters as you want, but I don't want to see plot threads where at least half the composition of characters is yours. You should also only tale as many characters as you feel capable of playing all at once. You have the choice of apping original characters, or canons that come from select worlds, listed below. Post them in the same board as the templates, and your character will be looked over by a staffer. WIPs, or Work In Progress, can be posted, and will be ignored until the WIP is removed from the app name. Once you have been approved by a staffer, you are free to join and create threads in the Uprising of the Corrupted Fates board, as well as participate in Story Threads.
The App
Original Character Template
Canon Character Template
The requirements for the OC and the Canon app differ slightly, but not by a whole lot. For the Original Character app, you must provide an appearance and personality, as well as a decently written history. Canons require slightly more in terms of personality, though appearance on both accounts can be substituted with a decent image. For canons that have very little or non-existent backstories, use the game they come from as their backstory, and do your best to put it into your own words.
Special Attacks, or Specials, you can app as many as you want, however when you find yourself in a battle, in Smash style, you get to pick four of them for that battle, and all others will be locked out until that battle ends. Abilities work differently between the two, with Canons being allowed all their canonic abilities, and OCs being allowed a Primary Ability and five Sub-Abilities. These abilities are utility powers that aid you passively. Weapons are considered basic attacks, but some my be too powerful for such, and must also be listed as Specials. This includes special uses of melee weapons, and any ranged weapons stronger than a weak energy weapon, bow & arrow, etc.
Your Final Smash is your ultimate power, and also your last resort. A Final Smash can only be used once you've reached around 20% HP remaining. Use your judgement to decide when you reach this point, but remember you are acknowledging that you are near defeat.
One last note, Canons that appear in Smash Bros do not have to be app'd with all their exact stuff, you can create new Specials and a Final Smash if you so choose and the character has more backstory to choose from.
Canon Limits
Canons are limited to franchises represented in the Smash Bros series. The following is a list of franchises from which a Canon character may be app'd:
All Nintendo-owned franchises, Street Fighter, Sonic, Pac-Man, Metal Gear, Megaman, Tekken, Virtua Fighter, and Tales of series
Posting
All posts should be at least a paragraph long, none of those wimpy two-liners. Four sentences will work if you're that pressed for creativity.
Face Claim
Face Claims can be Animanga, aka animation and manga/comic based. No real life images. Original Art is also allowed, just make sure to acknowledge who the artist is.
Combat
Whether it be 1v1, 3v2, 6v4, or RPers vs boss, combat can happen anywhere in the Smash worlds. There are three different types of combat, World Battles between two or more RPers within the Smash worlds, Boss Battles, where characters face off against a boss, and Smash Battles that take place within the stages of the Smash Gate.
World Battles
World battles are rather simple. Two or more characters duking it out with the world as their witness. Three actions can be taken on a turn, whether it be dodging or blocking, activating a Special, or any unique Abilities that have an effect that must be activated. Post order will be observed in all Main RP threads and Story threads, but in the case of an entity needing to act before another can, the current cycle can be shifted to allow this, and return to the normal order next Turn Cycle.
A Turn Cycle is as such: Star makes the first move in a battle, the posting order is Star, Bawb, Serras, SLE, and Maelys. A single Turn Cycle is Star, Bawb, Serras, SLE, Maelys. If Star were to attack Bawb, but Maelys had previously used a power that would block attacks at Bawb on the next turn, the cycle would shift to Star, Maelys, Bawb, Serras, SLE, once this cycle ends with SLE's post, it returns to the normal order.
Upon defeat in a World battle, the character is trophified, and will be removed from the battle if more than two combatants exist. Unless siezed by an entity, trophies are collected by the Smash Gate and awakened there.
Boss Battles
Whether it be to defend their realm from intruders, or to stall those pesky heroes, Bosses will stand up to challenge you. Normally bosses will be fought by more than one individual, but in the case of a 1v1 Boss battle, both combatants have three actions per turn. In a normal so that with multiple challengers, however, players will bave two actions each, while the Boss has three total, four actions if 5 or more players participate. The Turn Cycle begins once the Boss posts, and continues with the post order to form the Turn Cycle.
When a character falls in a Boss Battle, they instead fall unconscious. They are out of the Turn Cycle until revived. A character can be revived if another character spends two turns trying to wake them. If woken normally, they revive with half health, however if healing powers are used, they revive with full health. Specials that are used to immediately revive allies are allowed, but will take the slot of two Specials when chosen for a Boss battle moveset.
Smash Battles
Smash Battles take place within the stages of the Smash Gate. They are fought for sport, for glory, or just for fun. Battles on the Smash Stages function slightly different, due to the ever-present aura surrounding the Smash Gate. While World.Battles may optionally be fought on a Smash Stage, Smash Battles are the traditional battle fought on the stages. Each stage possesses different setups depending on the world it's based on, ranging from hovering platforms to giant boulders or even directly copying locations from the many Smash worlds.
Each combatant is allowed two actions per turn. The Turn Cycle exception rule exists here as well. No matter the stage layout, the Stage is encircled by a 50 foot perimeter spherical barrier. Touching this barrier will teleport the combatant out of the arena, fully heal them while.removing a life counter, and allow them to warp back into the battle. In Smash Battles, damage translates to increased knockback, meaning that while individuals can suffer physical wounds, they will not suffer fatal wounds. The damage level of an attack will determine how far it can launch opponents.
In standard Smash battles, defeat occurs once an opponent or opposing side loses all their lives.
Bosses
At certain points within the Main RP Story, a powerful Boss will be encountered. These bosses are empowered above the strength of normal enemies, and are much tougher as a result. They possess an array of powers that will put your skills to the test, and only through adept roleplaying can you overcome them. Keep in mind that Bosses will not be revealed until they are challenged, so exercise caution when preparing to face an important enemy. One last note, upon defeat, a Canon boss will generally be available to app as a regular canon. This does not grant the user of this Canon use of the former Boss app, and Boss apps possessed by staffers are restricted from appearing anywhere outside Story threads and another feature that will be revealed later on.
??
More info once the RP begins.
Multiple Realms
It's no secret that some franchises possess more than one hub world (Earthbound), or even multiple versions of a single world (Hyrule). When this is the case, the world being used will be stated. Though you cannot visit the alternate worlds within the boards of the Main, you are still free to play in these alternate worlds on the Side RP board. Keep in mind that some exceptions exist, like Mario, where most locations can exist on the same world without confliction, and space worlds being obvious.
Smash News Network
Always coming to you live, it's the Smash News Network!
The reporters of the Smash News Network are always delving into the worlds to find out what's going on. Sometimes they host a special broadcast when something juicy is discovered, so if you're looking for something to do, it may be worth your time to check out what they have to say.
