I was watching a little snippet of Grey's Anatomy last night (one of the few channels/shows that we get currently), in which someone dies, but is an unidentified organ doner (who I don't know, and don't care). Anyway, the family had issues deciding whether or not to donate his organs.
I personally don't understand why someone wouldn't donate after death.
So the question I'm posing is, how do you feel about donating organs and why?
~My personal opinion ~ After death, I feel that we no longer have any need of our organs. We have died and passed on through the world of the living into the realm of the dead. However there are many others who need transplants... Why should we, when we're dead be so stubborn to not give our organs, that which we don't need to someone who requires them? Its almost selfish, as in away you're denying the right to live to someone else, by not donating your organs.
Even if another person could not use them, science will... For example if you're a type one diabetic and you die in a car crash... obviously your pancreas cannot be used as a transplant (never heard of one either). However donating your organs (to science in this case) allows medical researchers to examine it... hopefully furthering their research and perhaps preventing/curing type one diabetes at a future date.

I'm listed as an organ donor because I too believe that we no longer need them when we die. I mean really, are you going to care when you're dead? No, you won't, because you'll be dead. Donating them to science can help other people get transplants, can aid doctors in curing diseases, etc. I think not donating your organs to science once you die is an unethical choice.

There was a movie and I forgot what it was called, but Daniel Panabaker was starring in it and it was about her character's brother died and his heart was donated for another man to live. Her character did not like the fact that his heart is in someone else's body and she tries hard and finally tracks the man down; she believes in a way that her brother is still "alive." Some of these facts might be inaccurate because this was couple years ago since I watched that movie.
I don't mind donating organs, but most of my family does. They prefer open casket funerals and they want all body parts there. Even if you choose on a will or letters that you will donate organs; some family members will fight for the opposite and it can get pretty ugly...
