Ah, when it starts I'm always filled with so many memories.
This is the first installment of my promise to actually do something anime based on this forum and hopefully the start of my new "column" of sorts.. the fangirl squees. I'm going to try to post one of these everyday.. but no spankings if I mess up okay?
First.. the breakdown:
Right at first within 02 seconds, we have the spark of electricity between two orbs on both sides, and then Chii (the character, who will definitely be squeeing about at a later time) open her eyes. This is an obvious reference to her just turning on and being a persocom or personal computer in the Chobits universe.. but this fangirl can possibly see it as a sign of the SPARK between two sources.. the love between people which is a common element in the Chobits series.
Or I might be adding too much thought to it. I'm sure I'll be doing that alot.
Chii's eyes seem too dilate as she's opening them. I'm not sure if this was just them trying to create some movement in the opening at this point in time and not make it a standstill, a reference to her just turning on again or a reference to the ending of the series.. I don't want to say too much, but anyone who has watched the series will know what I'm talking about.
Honest though, I kinda am sitting here hoping it's not the last thing.. but maybe that's because this fangirl has a anti-anime ending standpoint because of how awesome the manga ending is and how much they altered it.
- - - Argh.. I as I unpaused it you definitely see her eye blank out like it usually does.. so I'm guessing it does in a way reference the humanity within Chii. Oh well.
She turns around and it switches to another frame with a pixellation effect... which this opening loves. It's even mentioned in this TVTrope tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Pixellation which I would recommend reading the entirety of her my squeeing before clicking.. that site is demonically addictive.
Okay, after the pixellation we get the title card "Chobits" which it still keeps it's Japanese Kanji name but since Chobits itself is a English word in the series as well.. they do include it even in the Japanese title so it's pretty cute. Then we have the silhouette of Chii and Hideki coming closer to each other and it's flashing hues in a quick and cute manner.. this is one of my favorite parts just for the look of the few seconds. There is this kinda.. "technologix" symbol going around in the background and the song starts going here. It roughly translates to, "To make sure the two of us meet, I cast a spell." So your getting a bit of the cute romantic element in it already.. a big deal of course is that Chii and Hideki are not facing each other at this point.
Strangely though, the line has Hideki mouthing it instead of Chii. You would expect this cutesy and lovely song would be in the state of mind that's it's Chii singing it.. and your not entirely wrong. It's kinda really in the end both of their song. They both are looking for each other they both just don't realize. This part is really pretty though.
Pixellation again and our two cuties are closer to seeing each other. Maybe. Either they have done a turn and are facing in the same direction (not at each other, in the same direction) and or they haven't moved at all. I'm watching this so closely and giving my reactions on time so I might realize what they were doing later. The background changes but it's still technologix.. like I said. So we are going to try to ignore the background from now on unless I find it meaningful. The next scene has the almost touching each others hands, of course kinda being perfect for the scene's part in the song.. "Our hands are gently touch, and then look at me smile.." Which makes me think that they were supposed to be stealing glances at each other, but not really FACING each other.
The scene seems to revert back to the original scene with the silhouette's but now our lovely friend pixellation has given them form and they are getting super duper close. Keeping going lovers! Just as they overlap, it's as if they bump into each and with a flash, they are lost in each others eyes! Squee! "We pretend not to realize how we really feel and suddenly, we fell in love." is the rough line here, and it makes sense. You can take the fact hat they were avoiding looking at each other as the sign of them "pretending not to realize" and of course, suddenly they turn around and fall in love! Squee!
The song kinda goes in it's corus here "Let me be with you" and "yeah" playing as we pan out and see more of Hideki and Chii lost in each others eyes. Then the scene changes and we see Hideki smiling on a slightly lost looking Chii.. though this reflects both characters very well. We take a close up on Chii's eye and we see then a flash come from it and a blocky background flash.. of course referencing to the way her computer self is feeling.. the love and humanity she does have when looking at Hideki.
As if realizing this.. Chii slowly starts to stretch out her arms and from here place against her chest... she's becoming sure of herself in a way, she's realizing what she wants.. which is symbolic of the journey Chii goes through the entire series. I want to talk more about this bad, but I'm going to leave that for the Chii squee. But I want to mention that this part always does get me because the journey effected me in a really real way.
As her arms go up to his face, she utters along with the song.. "Dakishimetaino" which is basically.. "I want to hold you." and is makes this girl literally squee once again. The characters then seem to revert back to the stage we met them in this intro of.. as silhouettes.. I know this isn't the actual meaning.. but I do see this as symbolic of the entire series itself.. us coming in, being apart of this lovely journey.. and it's conclusion everything pans back out, they go about their lives which actually don't go on.. as sad as it is.
They are just characters, blank canvas. But they are real to this girl.
The ending mostly ends that way.. but we do see Chii close up one more time, and she takes a loving sigh. The intro is done. Good job Chii!
The full version of the song of course goes further, but without image to analayze.
"Until now, unable to say it, I've just been hiding it
I'm only acting strong, that's all it is, please see through it
Just wait five more minutes until we can meet
And after that we fell in love
Let Me Be With You
Let Me Be With You
Let Me Be With You
I just want to cry
When we let go our joined hands
It makes me uneasy It makes me uneasy
Let Me Be With You
Let Me Be With You
Let Me Be With You
I just want to hold you
I just want to hold you"
Until now.. unable to say it, Ive' just been hiding it.. and the rest of that line. Very Hideki. It's how Hideki is the entire series, hiding the feeling from himself.. acting strong and believing that she was just a machine.. that this was enough validation to choke down the feelings he was gain from her.
I just want to cry.. so sweet.. it makes me shiver. Love can make you want to cry in so many ways. This really is a terrific love song, one of the best.
When we let go.. our joined hands.. it makes me uneasy, it makes me uneasy. These lines actually made me cry. Anyone who has been in love knows the feeling when you just don't wanna let them go. When you just want them right there, holding your hand for all eternity. I know this feeling and I could scream this part I'm sure.
I just want to hold you, I just want to hold you. Never let go Chii, never let go Hideki. Let me be with you always.
Let me be with you. ~
