The Virginia Governor brought back Confederate History Month (first time in 8 years) and he amended it to include the slavery that happened in that time. Here are the links: www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/04/06/confederate-history-month_n_527363.html and www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/04/07/AR2010040705100.htmlWhat are your opinions on this? Do you believe it was a good amend? Is it a good decision that he brought the Confederate History Month back? In my opinion, I am glad he brought back the Confederate History Month, I think all states should recognize it. We recognize black history month so why can't we recognize this? I am also glad the Governor included Slavery, because it was the huge issue during the Civil War. My ancestors fought in that war and they have sacrificed their lives or parts of their body for our country and I think it is respectful to recognize the Confederate History. Yes, slavery was bad in American History, but without it, we would have not gotten here. Without all of these events, America might not have been the same. Things happened for a reason. We have overcome these issues and made a better country and we still are trying to find solutions to make this a better country and I believe that recognizing Confederate History is the right thing to do!

First off, I think it should be studied but I think having a "Confederate History Month" seems bit insensitive. And how can you possibly equate Black History w/ Confederate History? There is really nothing to celebrate about what happened in the Civil War.
Also, I have to argue the "everything happens for a reason" statement. I do believe certain things happen for a reason...but can really tell me that all the horrific stuff that goes on in undeveloped countries is happening for a reason???

My opinion is that it shouldn't be celebrated, but I think we as a country shouldn't be celebrating Black History month either.. or anything else like that. Personally, I think giving tribute to one race but ignoring the rest is pretty messed up, but I think that celebrating things that weren't really pleasant in the first place is kinda..
But in the end, I don't hate or like this either way. Is neutral like with most things in life.

All countries develop differently. Many countries have been improving, it may not be like our country, but at least they are making some progress. All countries have to start with a basic foundation and they have to keep building and rebuilding, America is still rebuilding. My friend who lives in the Middle East could not attend school, and now she can. Lots of people in Afghanistan is trying to change their country, but it is difficult because of their president, but at least they are trying and someday they might succeed. I am sorry I am going off topic, but I am answering your question. When America first started, we had sllavery, women could not vote, children had no free or way to get education, racism, young children working for a living, and more. We now have improved, but we still need to keep improving. Again, countries develop differently and at different rates, someday some of these undeveloped countries should have improved. Whatever the reason is, know one knows, but our history happened for a reason and there are reasons why we have improved. The same goes for the other countries out there. I am glad though that I am reading responses on this topic, and I get to see this from different perspectives. I agree with your points there. Maybe we should have a special day and celebrate all races

The reason why we have this kinds of things is celebrate and look back at all the adversity we had to go through. The fact of the matter is White People are a majority, Heterosexuals are a majority; thus, the reason for we give folks certain months as a retrospect. Though, I agree that we should celebrate only races - though, in reality, everyone is the same just with different skin tones. Also, this " ___ History Months" can cause racial tension which is NOT the point of these events. There is also things I don't know why we celebrate like Christoper Columbus Day, for he is nothing more than a murderer that ruined and destroyed the Native American's lives (not to mention my peeps > ). EDIT: I understand that much, but I what I was referring to stuff like rape, murder, et cetera. Sorry for not being specify enough. Those are things that I cannot fathom. This is something I think we can all agree about.

I understand that much, but I what I was referring to stuff like rape, murder, et cetera. Sorry for not being specify enough. Those are things that I cannot fathom. It is no problem. Our country still has those problem along with many other countries. We are somewhat fortunate enough though to have a punishment system while some countries may not have punishment systems or not a fully developed system. But, I do believe that if the punishment was set high enough, most or all of the rape, murder, etc would stop. I believe this is a global issue that all or most countries suffer and I hope we can all overcome that. I still don't know why it happens, no one does, and I wish we could solve most of these problems right away. I am sorry for my lack of response on this topic now, it is getting late for me to stay up.

Celebrating progress (in my opinion) is kinda icky to the progress itself because it makes us too much focused inside on how things used to be.
That I will say. And did.
