Hi everyone!
I am writing this, because I think it will help me release my stress and anger. You don't have to read it or all of it if you don't want to.
My school in my village is different than any other place. Before the year of 2003, students can graduate above an 8th grade education, since then our graduation minimum requirement is only an 8th grade education. Most of my classmates choose to do the minimum, but I am one of the few students who choose to go above that minimum requirement.
Just recently we have had 2 teachers ask questions on why the students are receiving this type of education and their jobs are on the line and just today the majority of the school board decided to not keep them as teachers. What makes me so mad is that since 2003, we have lost so many good teachers because of our current educational system. Since 2003, we have had many students, parents, and community members ask why we are receiving this type of education and the school board has not given them an answer yet.
Again, many students, parents, and community members supports these 2 teachers and voiced their opinions on why they should be kept as teachers here and the majority of the school board did not care. It is like we don't have a voice, even though it was the public who voted them in that seat. Today during the meeting, a friend and I told the school board members that the public voted them in and that their actions and decisions will determine whether they will serve another term on the school board. And the majority of the school board did not listen to us.
We only have a few more options left and I choose plan "B" which is to attend school somewhere else for my last school year and a bunch of my classmates to do the same. In my high school we have about 45 students (7th- 12th grade) and right now we have about 20 students who are going to attend school somewhere else. A school's funding comes from the student head count, so basically here a student is worth $18,500. With so much students going to another school, this shall result a lack of funding to that school; therefore, the school will have no choice but to let go some staff.
I am sorry you had to read my long explanation, I just had to write this down and hope it would help me. There is a whole lot more to this topic, but it would result in many chapters. This is only a summary. This has been going on for 7 years and I have had quite enough of it! Right now I am sad, hurt, and mad on how our school system is and how I have suffered this for 7 years. I might write more on this topic later on. Thanks for taking your time to read my thread.
