((This is a retelling of the opening sequence to Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles: Crystal Bearers that I figured would be appropriate to introduce Layle into the RP.))
"Layle, report."
The wind whipped all around the lone clavat, sitting in the top compartment of a small airship, suitable for up to three but comfortable for one. The clouds formed a blanket below the ship, preventing them from seeing much of anything below them. Luckily, their concern was not what was beneath the ship.
No, the concerns of the mercenaries was a much larger ship, an airship of epic proportions, built to military grade for high class passengers- it was a thing of beauty alright. It sailed along on its maiden voyage, making very good time compared to other airships despite the unbelievable weight of the whole thing. This was their charge, their task; to defend this carrier was all that concerned Layle for now.
Other than his boredom.
"There's nothing to report." He said flatly, his voice calm. "All quiet out here, Keiss." A moment of silence passed between the crystal bearer and his partner, with only the wind even letting the other know that Layle was still there. "What a dull gig."
"Well good! The smoother my road to success is, the better." That was Keiss, always looking out for number one. And then trying to replace him. "Take good care of the Alexis, you hear?" He felt he had to reiterate that part. Layle groaned in annoyance but said nothing. "And don't go causing any trouble, Layle! You cause enough trouble just by existing."
With a flick of his hand, Layle slammed the speaking tube shut. "Stop using me then." He said in an annoyed tone.
((Post that you are either on another small airship or on the Alexis, the larger ship. Either one is fine with me, but I'd ask that you not cause any trouble yet. You still can, but....))

She was checking over her gun for the 5th time, trying to think of something to do. This mission was boring as hell so far. She was on an escort mission for the airship Alexis, but so far nothing had happened. It was as if they were not needed. She, Andrew, Layle, and Keiss were all on this mission. Lucky for her sanity the witch in her hammer had remained quiet. "Hey Andrew, did we have to take such a boring job?" she yelled into the comm tube. "Hey, this wasn`t my idea alone, Sherlotta. you also wanted to take it." he smirked. She sighed, and went back to checking her 8 foot gatling, still incredibly bored.

Upon the ship known as the Alexis a torrents of bright lights appeared and began to swirl in repeating circles. The lights spun around and around, faster and faster. They continued to spin until they reached a speed that to the human eye seemed as though it were one massive light. And at once all of the lights converged in the center in a final blinding flash of white.
When all fell dim and the lights were no more, a new figure, equally strange, took their place. There in this place of metal and glowing panels stood a figure out of time, a tall hellish looking being with horns, claws and long white hair, in this place stood Kain.
The new arrival turned his head to investigate this strange place that the chronoplast chamber had decided to place him.
"Hmm. This is new... glyph magic? No, there are no hylden, I would smell their foulness on the air."
He lifted his head up and took a great breath in.
"No humans, no vampires. But still there is life. This place intrigues me, and I am sure it promises many twists before my reason for being here here unfolds completely."

Journey after journey and battle after battle. To endure such stress constantly, the human body just couldn't do it. Sooner or later, exhaustion of the physical or mental kind would set in... who knew what could happen at that point! There came a time where you just had to unwind, take a break from it all, and relax even! For Nouri, the time had come for such R&R. But just what sort of place could a lad who has constantly been on the road go to achieve such ultimate rest.
An Airship obviously!
The high flying technological wonders of this world had many purposes from what he had heard so far, regular transport, aerial combat, and now.. passenger ship? Yup, as that was exactly what Alexis II was. This giant hunk of maneuverable metal was tailor made for the finer pleasures in life, pretty much like a cruise ship on his own world. There were all sorts of neat activities to be a part of such as the swimming in the pool on the top of the ship and even a casino in the lower parts of the ship from what he had heard.
But that could all wait. The young bandit had himself a nice little stateroom and he was laying in his bed as snug as a bug in a rug. Comfy and pleasant and not a bit of danger around. Today was most certainly going to be a good day.

The weather was as warm and soothing as can be. The sun shined upon the planet with it's beauty and radiance will the wind wisp past Mai's long hair. It was like a vacation for her but she kne she was really on the clock. Upon journeying a new strange land, she came across a group of soldiers who where looking for some people to defend an airship carrier. Apparently they were short handed for some reason. Normally Mai would overlook such things but they offered a reasonable reward for the work. It may be a boring job but money is money. When the reward she may be able to buy some important supplies. With this in mind she accepted the job and here she is now.
Nothing has happened however. Since she has been on the ship, there hasn't been any need for her services. At first she wondered why they asked for assistance in the first place but when though about it, she could understand. It wasn't that they were expecting something to happen, its that they were afraid of what could happen. Mai didn't know what would happen but there was only one way to find out. Sit back, be patient and let fate take it's course.

Layle leans way back in his seat, hurt by Keiss' statement but trying not to let it show on the outside. There wasn't much risk of anyone seeing him, and less of them being able to determine what he was feeling, but he leaned back anyway. Staring into the clouds, Layle's mind drifted onto the subject of his life, what had put him here, his fate....
A bird. A really, really big bird, just as far as it was large. Was it a bird?
"wha..."
Abruptly, Layle shot up and spun around, gazing out behind the airship, only to see that a small swarm of the bird-like Zu had gathered from nowhere around the Alexis. Gritting his teeth as Keiss made a statement he didn't care about, the Crystal Bearers observed what was happening with a close eye- Miasma portals were opening, releasing these creatures. Why? How? No time to consider these things, as Keiss was already taking evasive maneuvers in order to prevent a collision. Gripping his seat with a force enough to crush a man, he braced himself as the Airship finally leveled out high above the Alexis, with the pilot screaming about pulling back as a Zu placed itself in front of them.
Not that Layle much cared.
The creature exploded into a cloud of miasma, destroyed by the force of the turret that had sat atop the airship moments before, but now rested in Layle's clavat hands. "Leave it to me!" He yelled confidently over the sound of rushing air and roaring engines. Later he would use the excuse of being unable to hear Keiss over the engines if he was asked.
Throwing the weapon away behind him, Layle adjusted his goggles, spread his arms, and with a sound not unlike that of a small child riding his favorite roller coaster, was lifted from the airship by the airflow, throwing up upward and leaving him in the wake of the smaller craft.
Spotting the weapon as he fell, Layle reached out to it, and through his powers, it returned to him.
((Yes there are Zu swarming everywhere. Please do not simply state that "___ killed a Zu," as I will be somewhat controlling them))

Sherlotta noticed four people on the deck, but didn`t really care. They were passengers, and she was one of their escorts. She stood up, holding her gun, checking it yet again, when she sensed something was wrong. That "wrong" just happened to appear when she noticed a bird flying far above. A big bird. No, an enormous bird. She wondered how there could be animals of such size, but realized she forgot that there were monsters in many different places. She hefted her gun and prepared to fight.

Kain tilted his head to gaze at the sky. Above hims he saw a new sight, the air had been infested with large bird-like creatures, hideous to Kain's eyes
At first they seemed harmless, then they came, swooping down upon a boy that Kain had only now noticed. At this moment he knew he would have to wait no longer, his thirst for battle, and blood, was to be sated.
Kain pulled his ancient weapon, The Soul Reaver, from the belt on his back, lifted it above his head, the tip pointing towards the ground and his legs spread wide, his battle stance.
A smirk crawled its way across Kain's face, it had been too long since he had deprived something of its life.

The young thief's well deserved rest was going quite swimmingly as of yet. This was the first time in a while since he had last slept in a bed and he truly was missing it.. until now of course because he finally had it! A plush pillow, warm sheets, and a darn fine excuse to kick off his boots and unstrap that bracer of his. In fact, all his equipment was right on the table just a few feet away. There would be no reason to use it anyway.
Or so he had thought.
Not long after he had drifted off into a light sleep, He could hear a loud screech for a moment.. after which, there was an quite a noisy announcement from over the airwaves.
"Attention passengers, a large swarm of Zu is currently circling about outside. To ensure your safely, please stay within the ship and if your on the outside, please make your way back inside. Thank you for your cooperation."
They had to announce something now didn't they? The screech was enough quickly rouse him from his rest.. but now he was curious. Just what the heck was Zu? It seemed that they were dangerous or something from the sound of that message.. a fact that was enforced by the tone of the announcers voice which actually seemed a bit panicked. In any case, he could ignore it and simply resume his slumber. He had no reason to get caught up and this was suppose to be his vacation. Besides, there were always those hired hands they had floating around here and there. They should be enough.
So with that, he simply turned his body about and began staring up the ceiling. It would take a bit but he would get back to sleep sooner or later

Boom.
Another Zu exploded instantly before Layle's weapon, destroying it completely. He'd always found it odd that they just exploded like that, but hey, he wasn't the one who was supposed to research them, and if he could actually find out then someone else could definitely do so. It wasn't his problem.
The automatic rhythm of his weapon was almost hypnotic to him as he destroyed one after another before reaching something of an epiphany moments after his weapon was dragged from his hands, destroying his concentration and removing his weapon from him.
With a growl of frustration, Layle thrust his hand forward and reached for the weapon, his focus now on the object and that object alone. The automatic weapon snapped into alignment with Layle, and shot towards him, lining up with his body and aiming forward, allowing him to maintain an aerodynamic flow of air as he fell towards the carrier, the gun floating in alignment with his right arm as he fell. It's rhythm restored, Layle shot downward at a rather alarming rate, his weapon spinning and snapping into different positions as it destroyed every last one of the creatures that swarmed about the carrier.
At the final possible moments, Layle released the weapon and used his powers to keep himself afloat for a mere moment, stopping his fall dead only a few feet above the carrier's deck. The weapon slammed into the deck, shattering on contact. As per normal with recently fired weapons, a few rounds went off, but the first of them went wild and outbound, the second and third hit the deck but didn't go all the way through, while the final shot ricocheted off and away from the ship.
Layle, however, was fine, all in all. He cut his powers and slammed heavily onto the deck, a smile on his face as he turned to face the now empty sky. Not a Zu in sight... a good sign.
He smiled as he turned to face no one, leaning back onto the railing of airship. "A job well done, uh?" A toothy grin, a pat on his own back.
This thread has ended due to inactivity. So nyar.
