I. Personal Overview
Name: Colette Brunel
Nickname/Alias: Colettie, Fledgling Chosen, Spiritua Reborn, Klutz, Charismatic Chef, Maid, Fair Lady, Mermaid, Ill-fated Girl, Dog Lover, Ironing Board, Turbo Waitress, Supergirl, Chosen, Tiny Angel, Angelic Maiden, Little Pickpocket, Oblivious, Single Minded, Self Control, Don't Run, Friendship First.
Gender: Female
Physical Age: 16
Race: Human and Angel.
Height: 5'2"
Weight: 96 lbs
Birth Place: Iselia, Sylvarant
Originating Game: Tales of Symphonia
Appearance:
Her long blonde hair is of course the first thing you notice about this girl that very much looks like an angel come to life. Her large eyes are a deep blue that always gives her face a cheerful disposition, but that is only amplified by her always-on smile. Her short but petite frame gives her a very maiden-ish look about her. Her body is slightly underdeveloped, as she even reffers to herself as an "Ironing Board" when the dissucsion of figures comes into play. However, she frame.. however slim and petite, is indeed feminine. Very much so.
Her normal wear is a white dress with blue trimmings around. It comes in assortment of pieces that stick out on her shoulder and on her back and front, but this seems like it is likely attatched from her collar. Around her neck is her Cruxis Crystal, connected by a beautiful gold band along her neck. She wears the necklace that Lloyd made her to act as it's Key Crest, keeping it's powers in check. She at times, will have beautiful transparent neon angel wings, which come in assortments of light pinks, purples and blues. (mostly the former two).
Her other outfits that are commonly seen is her "Fair Lady" dress, which consists of a beautiful short red party dress with ruffles in frills galore, her "Mermaid" swimsuit; which is a beautiful white one piece covered by a print wrapping skirt, and lastly her Maid costume which is a green housemaid's uniform that she got by cleaning the Tethe'alla castle for a day while one of the maids were sick. She often will put her long blonde hair in one or two very cute braids.
She has been seen in Lloyd's clothes as well, but don't worry.. she only got her dress wet. ^-^
Personality:
Her personality sometimes is the type that can make a person roll their eyes, or even call fake on.. but it is a personality that is suprisingly deep beyond the surface.
Since Colette was born, people treated her as something. Not someone, but something. A girl that had to be protected since she was born to save the world. She was under the long line of Chosen's and her surivial was equal to the survival of the world. Everything was about keeping her safe and guarded, and she was told at the young age of 6 years old that she would die to protect everyone else.. and kept inside the temples most of her life for teaching. Her life was a life of a Chosen, and her teachings and life were all centered as thus. She would be raised to be selfless, caring, and have all the necessary training to be able to save the world though little more. Sure, they weren't cruel or abusive of their Chosen.. they indeed needed her, but she wasn't treated as someone who had their own life.. at least long term. She was treated as a Chosen, not a human girl with needs. She didn't have anyone but her father and grandmother that even treated with her as that real girl until she met Lloyd.
Lloyd was different, he didn't see her as "The Chosen" he saw her as Colette. After that, she found a reason to actually WANT to save the world. Sure, that wasn't to say she had plans on not trying to do her born duty.. but Lloyd gave her the determination she was looking for to see it through. Colette was still born because of her duty and teachings with a very selfless, kind, and nutruing personality. This was the kind of personality she was raised to have as a Chosen of Mana. She almost is always smiling, though this is often a mask to hide her own sadness from other people.. not wanting to bother her. Though alot of this is because she doesn't believe, as the Chosen that she has any right to do so. Colette may seem to have a lack of intelligence, but she is emotionally mature and very forgiving of people with a good sense of who is really good in their hearts. Presea is quoted as calling Colette someone who can "smile and forgive" and wishes she could be the same. She is also naive due to her sheltered life.. which make her seem alot dumber than she actually is. The real girl is at least of average intelligence, arguably slightly above, as shown from when they did a test in a school in Tethe'alla. Booksmarts and Streetsmarts doesn't exactly equal raw intelligence, in this case.
She has a very lighthearted feeling about most situations, wanting to see the people she cares about smile rather than frown. Her lack of knowledge and cheerful personality can come across as very silly, and she is horribly clumsy so this only helps make people laugh about her. She doesn't seem to notice this though, and mostly will apologize for whatever she damaged when she feel.. even if it was good she damaged it in the first place. She places alot of pressure on herself, to keep smiling and to keep making people happy that whenever she feels she does otherwise she apologizes, a bit overso and this causes people to ask her to stop apologizing.. which is usually met with another apology.
History:
**thanks to Aselia for this section, massive spoilers within.
Colette was born and raised in Iselia, a small community located in the north-western part of Sylvarant. When she was born, there was a Cruxis Crystal, a kind of Exsphere, in her hand, signifying her as the seventh Chosen of Regeneration in Sylvarant.
Her adoptive father, Frank Brunel, raised her in the village as his own. Colette's grandmother, Phaidra, was the priestess at the Martel Temple, which is located just outside Iselia. At some point during the early years of her childhood, Colette was taught how to read angelic language. As she got older, she was introduced to the clergy, some of whom she would later meet during her Journey of World Regeneration. She also met the priests who were meant to accompany her on her journey. She then started her formal education at the Iselia schoolhouse, where she met Lloyd Irving. She and the young Lloyd soon became friends.
The day Colette turns sixteen, Cruxis sends down an Oracle. Colette, accompanied by Lloyd, Genis Sage, and the mysterious mercenary Kratos Aurion, after they defeat the Renegades-thought-Desians, enter the Martel Temple to meet the summons of the angels . At the highest level of the temple, Colette's "real father", the angel Remiel, arrives to convey the blessings of Cruxis and bestow the Tower of Salvation upon the land of Sylvarant. As the game goes on she unlocks more of her powers from her father's angelic side. This marks the beginning of Colette's Journey of Regeneration, during which she must release the "Seals" that are scattered throughout the world. There are a total of five Seals, the fifth being at the Tower of Salvation, where the Journey would end, Colette would be sacrificed, and the dying world would be regenerated.
She leaves the village of Iselia under the protection of Kratos and Raine Sage, her teacher. As she is leaving, she acts, in Genis's words, "overly cheerful" in an attempt to hide the fact that the Journey of Regeneration would end with her death. Trying to cause her trusted friend Lloyd the least amount of grief, she lies to him about the time of her departure, in the hope that he would then be able to live in the regenerated world. Her bluff fails, however, and Lloyd and Genis later catch up with her.
As the party moves from one Seal to the next, Colette begins to gain more angelic powers, like wings, enhanced sight and improved hearing. However, she also loses the things that make her human, like the ability to taste food, sleep, or even speak. Eventually, the party reaches the Tower of Salvation, where Colette is forced to make the final sacrifice: her heart and memory.
Having lost all those things that made her human, Colette is the perfect vessel for Martel, her mana signature being the closest possible to that of Martel. Remiel says, during the ritual in which Colette sacrifices her heart and her memory, that he is not Colette's father, and that the "inferior beings" only called him her father because he placed the Cruxis crystal on her. Colette reveals to Lloyd, through some non-oral form of communication, that she somehow knew this, before sacrificing her heart and memory and becoming unresponsive to the rest of the group. Remiel reveals that he seeks to become one of the Four Seraphim, showing that he cared little for Colette, or even the world, and plans to dispose of the group, but they fight and kill him. Kratos then arrives and reveals that Cruxis plans to transfer Martel's consciousness to Colette, denying that it will cause Colette to die. Before Cruxis is able to put Martel's consciousness into Colette's body, however, she is taken to relative safety by the Renegades. Lloyd and the party are later forced to flee to the parallel world of Tethe'alla, taking the soulless Colette with them in hope of curing her.
Colette regains her senses after Lloyd carves a Key Crest into her birthday necklace (he completed it the morning that she left, but it breaks some time between then and the night after the Fire Seal is broken). She apparently remembers everything that happened while she was unresponsive, as she knows Zelos' name. As the journey to reunite the worlds continues, Colette is kidnapped by the rogue Desian Grand Cardinal Rodyle, who plans to use her in his Mana Cannon. His plans are foiled when he realizes that she has Chronic Angelus Crystallus Inofficium, a rare disease that crystallizes the body. The party rescues her, but does not realize this until later; Colette believes that his referring to her as "sinful" is a reference to her failure to perform the world regeneration, something she feels guilty of despite knowing that it would only bring about what Lloyd describes as "a false peace."
Colette's disease is introduced gradually, starting with mild discomfort and leading to her collapsing in pain in Ozette shortly before Rodyle abducts her. After Forcystus shoots her when she shields Chocolat, it reveals that she has begun to crystallize. The party then searches for a cure, learning about Mithos the hero and Mithos' splitting the world into two with the power of the Eternal Sword in the process. Colette is cured in time after the party escapes Welgaia.
Colette is captured in the Tower of Salvation after Zelos betrays the group. When Lloyd reaches the Great Seed Chamber, although he is reunited with his friends (whom he had thought dead), Mithos succeeds in merging Martel with Colette. Martel, however, uses Colette's body to urge Mithos to stop what he is doing. At this time, either Zelos or Kratos arrive in the Great Seed Chamber and place a Key Crest on Colette's Cruxis Crystal. After Martel's consciousness leaves Colette, the young Chosen urges the group to stop Mithos from moving the Great Seed to Derris-Kharlan, having understood Martel's desires. In a skit after the group leaves, it is revealed that Colette was able to understand Martel's feelings while she was possessed.
She continue to help the rest of the group along with the journey and even though she is eventually used for a body for Mithos to escape in.. her along with the rest of her companions succeed in defeating him once in for all and she and Lloyd are the ones who witness the naming of the Giant Kharlan Tree.
At the end of the game, Colette returns home to Iselia, and reveals that she is no longer the Chosen.
Colette is a very mature young woman. She was brought up with the knowledge that she would need to die to save the world, and has gained from that a truly selfless nature. However, she later recognizes that she made a mistake in her willingness to sacrifice herself, believing in Lloyd's ideas that no life is born for the sole purpose of dying. As such, her greatest wish at the end of the game is to ensure that no one else makes the same mistake she did.
Transportation: Colette has a green "Rheaird". Rheaird's are a special jet like transprotation that is rode standing up and holding the handles of. They run of volt's mana, though it is concievable that any electrical-type energy would do. They had the power of traversing through worlds in Tales of Symphonia, but only through portals.
They are high speed for the most part, making travel around the worlds easy if she has the fuel. If not, she always has her wings.. which while isn't the speediest transportation.. get's the job done. She keeps it in a "Wing Pack" a special pack designed for shrinking it and storage.
