[Skytown Hangar]
"Abandon all hope, ye who enter here."
As Palutena read the etched message of blood upon the column where Dartainian's corpse hung, horror crossed the faces of all who witnessed, including Zel who had just walked out of the Outlander 5 when the body had been noticed.
"CHAAA!" Sakurai, Master of the Dojo, laughed right out loud, startling them all out of their terrified stupor. "From where I come, there be a saying going something like this: 'The people who tell you that you can't only say it because they know you can.' Cha! Evil just creates fear to increase their chances of winning! Are the Super Smash Saviors, who have preserved the peace and values of the Smash Universe throughout the ages, who up to this point have never been defeated, going to be wavering now just because the enemy finds craftier ways to frighten the unwary? CHA! As long as Masahiro Sakurai is still the Master of the Dojo, as long as he is the mixedly respected visionary of Brawl, as long as his Wii Remote still has battery, he will not allow this to be happening!" Sakurai stepped partway up the ramp and flourished his Remote for all to see, boring into them with his penetrating gaze.
"General Zel," Palutena said, while those gathered thought on the human's words. Zel gave the goddess his attention. "We who stand before the SSS today are living proof of the great work Sovaherc is engaged in at this very moment. Before long, he will make battle with Lord Crehavos himself. But there still are millions of dark, demonic beings who, at the emperor's command, would join their vile brothers here in destroying not only Skytown, but the SSS as well. They would overwhelm the Smash Universe, subjecting its peoples to an even worse state of living than has already been present these last seven years." The divine woman landed her golden staff on the ground with a firm stomp. "We must not allow this to happen. The time has come for all forces of good, whether they be SSS or not, from the Mushroom Kingdom to Hyrule, Mercenaries or Dreamlanders, Cornerians or from other lands farther distant still, to unite. We must follow Sovaherc into the Realm of the Damned, and wage a war the likes of which has not been seen in our lifetime, or before since the wars of ancient times, against the Evil One's mindless minions. We of the Heaven Society have seen terrible things during each and every dispensation of this world, but this era has proved to be the greatest and most contested of all. Already you have proven yourselves as capable of standing against great evils: you cast down the traitorous Blank; you fought off threats found even within your own numbers; you dissembled the organization of Silver; you ultimately put an end to the lingering malice of the Subspace Emissary, it and its devious leaders; you even made friends of former foes, such as Bob Snicket. Surely you all have no doubts within your minds that the SSS will triumph once again! Will your faction fight?"
Zel did not hesitate even slightly. "The SSS will fight, Lady Palutena!" A cheer went up; despite the bloody spectacle, the morale of those present had been raised considerably. "Skytown is nearly secured. The armies of Hell await us, or perhaps are already coming." He turned to Commander Cody. "Commander, send the signal to everyone. We march on Fallen Angel Castle soon. Very soon."
"Make haste," Farore said with concern. "I sense that driven to a corner, the Beast will attempt destroy everything with him. Everything."

The duel wound its way out of the room with the great machine, backing into a huge chamber on a metal grate bridge built precariously high. If one considered the noise of the machinery in the other room to be loud, then this was deafening. So many technological things were happening around him at once that Bob Snicket could not even register them all in his mind. Flashing lights, smoke, great metal shapes, whirrings, beepings, and so on resonated from every side. As hot as Hell was, it seemed to be even hotter still in here, if that was possible.
As a result, both Snicket and Reeka were sweating profusely as they fought above a several hundred foot drop. Each time Bob's hammer clashed against the professor's Paintbrush, colored goop splattered, often onto one or both of them. The mad scientist was still utilizing his jetpack, so the boy found himself defending from a nearly aerial assailant. So far no great damage had been done except that Bob had managed to smash the wrist around which was Reeka's watch, causing it to become no longer functional, which was a good thing because he no longer had to worry about the blue lightning technique. But he had also dispelled a great portion of his energy.
The writer recalled previous one-on-one fights he had engaged in: Petey Piranha, Mario, the Ancient Minister, Dark Link. It always occurred to him, despite the perilous circumstances in which he was fighting, that it would be amazing if there was a camera rotating epically around the scene, adding scale and dramatic effect. Perhaps if his books on his adventures were ever made into movies back on Earth, he would suggest such a technique during these climactic battles. He would have to find suitable actors to fill the positions, though. It wouldn't do to have Will Ferrell playing the role of Crehavos....
Unfortunately, during his mind-wandering, Reeka had slashed the magic brush across the air, leapt through it, and came behind him unsuspectingly. A whack on the head brought him back to reality, but it also knocked him over sideways, nearly sending him completely over the edge of the metal grate bridge. He gasped as his legs and torso went over, his gloved hands gripping the many interwoven metal bars (one still black for Sovaherc's illusionary appearance), the rest hanging helplessly, his cloak billowing rapidly from air turbulence. His hammer lay a few feet away, out of his reach.
Snicket groaned inwardly. No guard rail. Of course. What was the fun in a fight without the possibility of plummeting to one's doom?
Professor U. Reeka landed before him, giggling maliciously. He made to stomp on the boy's fingers, but, thinking quickly, Snicket swung his legs up and locked his boots as best he could between the grating. He removed his hands one at a time and crawled underneath the bridge.
Hm... he thought. Perhaps this had only made his situation more perilous than before, but it had seemed like a neat trick at the time.
Reeka, slightly befuddled, turned to and fro, looking under him for his opponent.
Then Snicket noticed it: a rather inconspicuous blue outline in the grating, the shape of a square. He remembered a similar thing from the times back on Earth when he'd used to sneak into houses at night and play video games. Particularly, two games came to mind: Super Mario World and Super Mario Sunshine. Now what did one do when confronted with such an outline?....
Ah, yes.
Bob crawled directly under the square outline, Reeka straight above him. He punched the outer edge of the square, causing it to flip a complete 180 degrees. In less than a second, he was now the one on top of the bridge, with the professor clinging desparatedly to the grating from beneath in his place. Reeka cried out in wrathful surprise.
Quickly, Snicket rolled over so that he was no longer above the square outline. He reached over and grabbed his hammer, and then slammed it onto the square, thereby dislodging Reeka's hands from it.
He watched as the said The Trophies character screamed in fury, plummeting into the smoky abyss to his doom. A rush of euphoria flowed through him, so much that a smile crossed his lips.
But a distant flaring sound came from below, and Snicket saw that, through the smoke, a figure was rising up. Toward him.
Bob sighed. Oh. Jetpack.
