I. Personal Overview
Name: Paola Venucci di Firenze
Nickname/Alias: Paola, Venere, La stella di Firenze
Gender: Female
Physical Age: 19
Date of Birth/Creation: August 23
Race: Human
Height: 1.64 m
Weight: 57 kg
Birth Place: Florence, Italy
Appearance: Paola is a healthy young girl with long, dark brown hair reaching midway on her back and deep green eyes. Her physique is one of a generally average girl; bust size, waist size, height, weight, and the like are all in accordance with what the average citizen deems beautiful but nothing extravagant. Her typical attire consists of Renaissance era clothing such as the dress in this picture (yes, I drew this just for the occasion lol). In other situations that require more fighting or simply more movement, she dons an outfit akin to an assassin of old. Plain clothe for pants, small greaves and boots for maximum mobility without sacrificing protection, a leather chest guard fitted over a long-sleeve tunic of plain cloth, and matching bracers across each forearm. Her outfit also includes an accompanying hood used to conceal the face, however she prefers to be a bit eccentric and uses a typical Venetian mask instead for her face. A typical mask such as this one is similar.
Personality: In most cases Paola is an amicable character and is most capable of making friends with complete strangers. A lively mother taught her to be this way, along with the ability to humor fellows while retaining her wit and modesty as a young woman. Ever the entertainer, she would be the center of parties as a young teenager and would be the envy of every boy she met, however a calm and collected Paola would not let these things get to her head. Instead she merely brushed men off as rabid dogs to keep her wits about her, more concerned with staying fit, both physically and mentally. Certain events in her life have shaken her being more so than the average person, events that would have turned any normal person into a complete monster. But for Paola, she became more like ice: cold and callous about matters that had affected her life and those around her. Indeed, she cared little for those who could not help themselves, but this persona was something she did not enjoy and thus would only enter when the need presented itself. Nothing, she thought, would keep her from being any less than what her mother had said she was.
History: Paola Venucci is the daughter of one of Florence's most important men, Antonio Venucci, who helped fund schools throughout the city as a result of the surge of education during the Renaissance. A man of prestige and wealth, Venucci was not one to spend his money poorly nor was he akin to disclose how he came about such wealth, but Paola was rich all the same and questioned none of it, nor did her sisters Simonetta and Allegra. All three were premiere Renaissance ladies who stood for portraits, sat in forums to speak about science, and played music on various instruments of the day.
Our young heroine Paola enjoyed these things behind her one true passion: the natural movement of the body and combat. It was peculiar for a girl her age to want to learn how to fight with swords and whatnot, but her father didn't discriminate and taught her basic techniques and how to modify certain methods to suit her style. All the while Paola never questioned how her father knew so much about swordsmanship, and later acrobatics, but she was always amazed at what her 50-year-old father could do and what she, the 19-year-old could not yet do. She would spend hours at a time in her family's courtyard attacking hay stacks, hay men, and just hay itself until she had honed her skills to match those of even the greatest of swordsmen in the city. Her other passion, acrobatics, led her to climb the scaffolding of buildings at night and even her own house when her father was unaware. Eventually it reached the point where Paola was able to scale large buildings and play with birds atop high edifices unreachable by anyone else. Her movements were even the envy of thieves who sat on buildings of low height surveying the crowds, and while many stopped to stare the guards were able to catch up and apprehend said criminals.
Despite her abilities she remained the modest young woman her mother taught her to be and kept such behavior behind closed doors until no one was around. Her mother, Farah Venucci, was originally Arabic but spoke incredibly good Italian and English for a foreigner. Paola speculated that it may be because Templars had lived in her home country and brought the language with them, but she wasn't sure and her mother would never answer her when she asked. Farah was a seamstress at a local shop who had gained critical acclaim for her designs for dresses and the like. Her sisters worked as apprentices under her in their spare time, but Paola felt sewing to be rather boring and didn't partake in any lessons.
All in all Paola's life was pretty easy and fun with no worries to speak of.
Until the Autumn of 1475...
As was mentioned before, Antonio Venucci's schools had been his "claim to fame" in Florence, but over the past few months it seemed that the public took a sinister but subtle attitude towards the schools, something Paola thought would never happen. In fact, it seemed that her entire family was being given the evil eye across the city. Parlors and parties of wealth, events that Paola and her sisters would usually attend, no longer had them on the list of attendees, and many times they would be escorted away like convicts. Men that Paola had never seen before began stopping by her home to speak with her father, and whenever they did they did so in secrecy. This began to scare Paola, because little by little it seemed that her lovely world was falling apart. On occasion she would simply climb to the highest point in the city and cry, her only friends being the eagles and pigeons that nested there. She went there so often that one very large eagle in particular came to like her and would allow her to pet him, though awkwardly, without much complaint. It even managed to remember where she lived and would fly around her house, sometimes following her when she walked outside, and eventually found a home inside of an alcove on the side of her house.
For weeks this went on; secret meetings with her father, a practical ousting from Florentine society, everything seemed to be dropping fast. The cause? She wasn't sure. But when she overheard other people in the city talking about assassins and her father's possible affiliation with them Paola's heart sank. Her father, an assassin? Secrecy was of course his favorite thing nowadays but that's going a little far. Despite her doubts, despite logic, she accepted the possibility. Talk of the city, as she surely learned, led back to a woman by the name of Loredana, a gypsy living in the southern district who was said to be a witch of some sorts. Paola didn't believe in witches, sorcery, or magic so she approached her without so much as a cautionary demeanor.
"How do you know of my father, witch-woman?" she asked.
"Your father? Who are you my child, my eyesight is not so good you see he he..." the gypsy replied.
"My name is Paola Venucci and I'll have this slander against my father stopped at this instant, Loredana."
"Oh so you know of me? well I'm sorry my dear but all I said is true, well was. Your father was indeed an assassin of great fame, or should I say infamy? He he!"
"Preposterous! My father would do no such thing! He is an honest man--!"
"No my dear it is you who is mistaken! Here, we once belonged to the same society and I have his penmanship. You my dear are a daughter of a legacy! Even your mother was in on it, she too an assassin of a different sort! My child this is not something to be frightened about so do not weep, be glad that your parents do not bring shame!"
During the witch-woman's speech she handed rolled documents to Paola and when she opened them she recognized her father's handwriting, discussing contracts with various Italian and even Arabic names as to assassinations of political leaders, clergymen, etc. Tears welled up in her eyes as she read, thinking that this surge of information was too much, that she wished her own father had told her of these things instead of being so secretive. [Will be continued]
Synopsis of remainder: Paola's family is then assassinated by Francois Motierre and several other Templars. Paola is heartbroken and out for vengeance, and so she stumbles upon her father's old chest of assassin's attire and modifies it to suit her body. She then creates a modified bracer that contains a hidden blade controlled by small pneumatic pumps located underneath the forearm but inside of the bracer, allowing the blade to be retracted and revealed in a split second with the aid of a pressure wire fitted to the palm of her hand. She then kills Motierre ad learns that the Templars have understood that she has survived and are now after her. She is now a hashshashin...
Transportation: Paola can swim and can climb like a monkey, but beyond this she simply travels by foot. If fate is good to her then of course she will use a horse or some other mode of transportation, but by default she prefers to walk.
Requested World Preference: Which of the two worlds would you like your character to be in?
II. Battle Information
A. Overview
Current Level: 1
Current Stats: 15
Physical Prowess 6
Magical Talent 2
Weapon Handling 6
Luck 1
Total Currency: 27,362 florins
Strengths: Paola is very skillful at close-quarters combat, able to wield mostly any sort of weapon save large maces and axes. Such ability allows her to parry, dodge, and counter with little to no effort of the body and allows for a greater degree of endurance. She is also skilled with projectiles (throwing knives, bow and arrow, etc.), and combined with her incredible eyesight she can be on target just about every time if she takes into account air resistance and drag.
Weaknesses: Many would think that in a closed space Paola would have difficulty fighting, but this is not the case. Instead, she is very susceptible to magic attacks and obscure projectiles (those not seen until right upon you) from afar. Archers and spellcasters are her greatest weaknesses if the rate at which she can run towards them is lesser than their rate at preparation for a spell or arrow (given a great enough distance since I know that even at close range and a low rate of speed she could still overtake them and/or dodge the projectile).
Combatant Type: Swordsman, Hand-to-Hand
Fighting Style: Usually she prefers to close her distance on the opponent as quickly as possible since projectiles are one of her weaknesses. Up close she fights with an assortment of weaponry at her disposal (sword, dagger, hidden blade, brass knuckles). She has been known to use throwing knives at close range, but the use to which I refer was to trip up a fleeing enemy by throwing ahead of them and allowing them to step atop the blades, thus causing them to overbalance. All in all she is a close fighter, especially when they have projectiles.
B. Weapons and Key Items
Name: Damascene straight-sword
Description: A finely crafted, well maintained, and very sturdy sword, it is made of Damascus steel and bears the crest of her family, as it once belonged to her father Antonio Venucci along with an accompanying eagle-head pommel and wing crossguard. It is used primarily for prolonged fights against opponents with similar weaponry.
Stats Required to Use: 1 Weapon Handling
Name: Notched Cinquedea
Description: Similar to the make of the Damascene straight-sword, it is used for short burst battles where drawing a normal length sword would be unnecessary and too time consuming.
Stats Required to Use: 1 Weapon Handling
Name: Hidden Blade
Description: A blade fastened to the inside of a bracer worn on the right arm, it is used for kills that require a more clandestine approach. The blade can be released and quickly put away because of a pneumatic device Paola created that lies on the area that rests underneath the forearm.
Stats Required to Use: 1 Weapon Handling
Name: Throwing Knives
Description: Ordinary throwing knives located behind each shoulder and slightly behind the waist. Each pouch holds 5 knives and they are located to best suit the retrieval of knives in mid-combat.
Stats Required to Use: 1 Weapon Handling
C. Abilities
Name: Hawk Eye
Activation: Always Active
Detailed Description: The cones in the back of her eye increase exponentially, causing her level of visual acuity to increase to more than 10 times that of a normal human. There are no side effects, and other than the increase in vision accuracy there are no other physical or magical benefits. The ability was honed under the guidance of the gypsy Loredana.
Stat's Required to Use: Ideally none, but if she desires to see even farther, it would require the stat Magical Talent.
Name: Animal Telepathy
Activation: Always Active
Detailed Description: Communication between Paola and her pet eagle Petruccio is performed through telepathy, which in this case is just the exchange of ideas, images, and the occasional word to hint at things. It only works between Paola and Petruccio. As time goes by, Petruccio's vocabulary will increase so as to make the communication faster and easier to understand.
D. Attacks
No listed attacks are necessary as Paola is simply a swordsman and nothing more.
Final Smash/Limit Break
Name: Hashshashin
Detailed Description: Paola’s body is overtaken by spirits of the past and assumes the soul of Hassan-i Sabbah. Under the hypnotic-like state, she experiences a slowing of time and is able to predict with great accuracy the movements of those around her and parry said movements. Exploitation is extremely difficult as the soul inside of her is forbidden from using her to take the life of another, however it is still possible for attacks to occur, just not as fatal.
