Chapter 28: The Invasion of Fourside City
Fourside City was in chaos. The pleasant air around the sky scrapers had been replaced with screams and rising smoke from the destruction. Around every corner, some creature was causing mischief. A new zombie rose from the ground every few minutes. Pork Soldiers were raiding the stores and bar, while ordering the Claymen to break down doors. Chimeras, demented civilians, and starmen were running around fighting each other and rounding up all those that remained. The undead caribou chimera was running through the streets crashing into anything in its path. Even the cultists were out with their paint cans turning everything blue like their robes. Suddenly, in a small grassy area of the town, a portal appeared in the air as Ness, Lucas, and Snake slid to a stop before running into a tree.
Ness: “That was better wasn’t it?”
Ness turned around to see Snake standing behind him, but Lucas’ legs wiggling into the air, the rest of his body shrouded by the bush he had fallen into.
Lucas: “Not quite.”
Ness: “It was a heck of a lot better than the last time.”
Lucas: “Yet once again I’m the one getting the short end of the stick.”
Snake: “Cut it out! We came here on a mission, plus if you actually look around you’ll realize there’s more problems going on than a few leaves in your hair.”
Ness pulled Lucas out of the bush as both boys stared at the chaos surrounding them. Lucas swallowed hard as Ness’ eyes grew wide, taking in the sights. Snake knelt down and pulled out his binoculars.
Ness: “This is far worse than I could have imagined. How could this have happened?”
Lucas: “How could those things be…”
Ness: “What are you talking about?”
Snake: “I see the Hotel just up ahead. There’s a lot of commotion in the main road leading up to there though. Are there any alleyways that we could sneak through to avoid some of this?”
Ness: “Yeah, there should be one beside the Bar. Follow me.”
Ness, Lucas, and Snake crept through the brush as the approached near the bar. They watched as several creatures passed by as well as a large group of Claymen being directed by a Pork General. Looking quickly both ways, they dashed across the road and into the alleyway beside the bar. The area was dark, but there didn’t appear to be anyone lurking around inside it. As a precaution, Snake placed his thermal goggles on as they sneaked silently towards the other end. As they walked on, they could hear the boisterous noise of the drunks and troublemakers inside the bar. Ness swore he heard the loud gaseous discharges of Master Belch from behind the wall. As the trio reached the other end of the alleyway, they could see the Hotel’s entrance only a few feet away. They waited for a few seconds before deciding no one was in their immediate vicinity.
As they dashed out into the streets, they were met with the harsh realization of their error. Directly in front of them was the Robotic Caribou. He flared his nostril and began to stamp the ground as he locked in on them. Running as quickly as they could, they began to climb the steps of the Hotel as the caribou reared into the air and began to charge. Closing in on them, the caribou swung his antlers barely missing Snake. Ness was not so lucky as the antler snagged on his backpack. Bucking and swinging wildly the animal attempted to shake the shouting child from his head. Snake ran towards the caribou and jumped into the air. Grasping a hold of Ness’ arm he kicked the chimera in the forehead sending it plummeting to the ground. Quickly, Lucas sent a PK Freeze at the beast and froze him in a solid block of ice. Ness gathered his bearings before kicking the ice cube before him. The three turned around and began to walk towards the door till they heard a strange hissing noise. The caribou’s robotic parts were giving off large amounts of steam melting the ice from Lucas’ attack. Within seconds, the caribou let out an angered cry as he broke free of the ice and began to charge them once more. Reacting quickly, Snake, Lucas and Ness ran for the door again.
Closer and closer the beast came as both children ran through the door. Snake quickly rolled into the opening as Lucas and Ness slammed the door shut. Suddenly, a metallic antler burst through the doorway. Pushing with all their might the two children could barely keep the caribou at bay as he began to repeatedly headbutt the door. From behind them the heard a loud dragging noise. Ness turned his head to see Snake pushing the lobby’s desk over to block the doorway. Both boys slid to the side as Snake pushed the desk into place and ran to get more to blockade the door. The caribou continued to ram the door as more objects were placed before it. After several minutes, the caribou’s attempts were futile. Snake punched through the glass window and threw a C4 at the beast. The instant the C4 landed at its feet, Snake detonated the bomb sending the caribou flying into the air as his mechanical pieces scattered around the road.
Snake: “That takes care of that.”
Lucas: “Now where are we supposed to find these friends of yours?”
Ness: “They’re here somewhere, I guess we’ll just have to go the old fashioned look and see route.”
Lucas: “Perhaps not.”
Lucas pointed to the top of the staircase to the right. Standing there before them was Mr. Saturn, the one and only who had aided Dr. Andonuts in his creations. Mr. Saturn jumped once into the air as he saw Ness.
Mr. Saturn: “Hi Ho Me Mr. Saturn. You come now this way zoom!”
Snake: “What the hell is that?”
Ness: “We aren’t really sure, but they’ve always been helpful come on!”
The trio walked up the stairs and followed Mr. Saturn down a hallway, up another set of stairs and down another hallway.
Mr. Saturn: “We all there down boing!”
Lucas: “Thanks for finding us; we didn’t know where you all were hiding.”
Mr. Saturn: “Me no you try find ding. Hear loud noise investigate you do see zoom zoom! Yes Yes Room here!”
Mr. Saturn had stopped at a door near the end of the hallway only a few yards away from another staircase. Ness reached for the doorknob and opened the door slowly. As soon as he poked his head in the room, he was met by a tackling hug from Paula.
Paula: “I’m so glad you made it up here safe. We saw you fighting off that animal.”
Ness: “And none of you bothered to help?”
Paula: “I wanted to…but…”
Poo: “No need getting in the way when you three obviously had it under control. She would have just gotten in the way. Besides, shouldn’t you have known already that he would be fine Miss Psychic?”
Paula: “Oh shut it towel head.”
Poo: “What’d you say?”
Dr. Andonuts: “Everyone just calm down. I’m glad you’re here now Ness. As you can see terrible things have been happening.”
Jeff: “Hey Ness, long time no see. Who are your buddies?”
Snake: “Call me Snake”
Lucas: “I’m Lucas. Nice to see you again Dr. Andonuts.”
Dr. Andonuts: “Again? Dear boy I don’t believe I’ve ever laid eyes on you before.”
Lucas: “Sorry, I forgot. It still hasn’t happened has it? I need to remember what time I’m in.”
Apple Kid: “What are you talking about?”
Lucas: “Er… I’ll get to that later. Why are we here again?”
Apple Kid: “Well we all decided to meet here to discuss what we should do about the state of the city. I’m sure it will soon spread to Threek, Winters and the whole world eventually.”
Poo: “There are no real discussions to be made if you want my opinion. Just go down and teach them who rules this world.”
Paula: “Well we can’t take on all these at once with just the four, well, now six of us. There’s way too many especially with more showing up every second.”
Snake: “Where are they all coming from?”
Mr. Saturn: “Hole big fly out zoom zoom!”
Dr. Andonuts: “Yes, there seem to be rips in the air forming all over the place with things walking out of, or falling through them. They seem to appear every few seconds and something either comes in or goes out of them. Look, there’s one now.”
Everyone turned to the window. Near the wall surrounding the city, the air began to distort as a dark sphere appeared. Immediately, a creature that was made of both cow and snake appeared from it looking confused.
Lucas: “So….it really is a time portal.”
Apple Kid: “So we were right in our assumption?”
Ness: “From the looks of it, yes. Snake, Lucas and I went to the site where we destroyed Giygas, but found a portal similar to those appearing all over. When we jumped through it, we landed back in time where we had fought him to begin with. Our robotic bodies were still lying there and everything.”
Lucas: “Besides, a lot of these creatures are from my time.”
Paula: “What do you mean?”
Lucas: “Well, I came here from 1000 years in the future. My Island began to disappear so I used Porky’s time machine and attached it to the main power supply and transported part of my island here. I was surprised that it transported that much to be honest. Before we had only seen people from within a capsule of some sort. That’s how I met you, Dr Andonuts. Some time in the future, Porky will show up, kidnap you and take you to the future where I lived. These chimeras, claymen, and pig masks are all from my time.”
Apple Kid: “A whole island was transported through time? How did I miss this one? Normally time travel is only held inside of some machine. Perhaps our, and Porky’s time traveling endeavors have weakened the time barrier significantly.”
Dr. Andonuts: “Interesting, so that fat boy is still out there.”
Lucas: “Well I’m not really sure. We defeated him and he sealed himself up in an invention you will create for all of eternity, but with the time ripping like this we may end up seeing him again. I hope not.”
Paula: “What are we going to do?”
Jeff: “Well guys, looks like we need to make a decision fast, because those pig masks are ordering those clay things to bust down the door to the Hotel.”
Mr. Saturn: “Find us way to fix hole yes yes.”
Apple Kid: “I agree, I, Dr. Andonuts, and Mr. Saturn will head on and work on a device to fix the tears in time. I’m afraid that it won’t be easy since there have been so many rips appearing, as well as all the creatures and individuals passing through.”
Ness: “So that leaves us to fight then?”
Suddenly a loud bang was heard throughout the hotel as the clay men burst through the blockade that Snake had previously made.
Snake: “Well it doesn’t look like we have much of an option anymore. You three head on out of here. We can take care of these.”
The Apple Kid picked up Mr. Saturn and made his way to the door, Dr Andonuts following closely behind. He opened the door, looked down the hallway and disappeared towards a flight of stairs making his way to the rooftop. Soon afterward, they began to hear crashes as clay men were bursting through each door on their floor. Snake knelt down and pointed his missile launcher at the door. Poo and Lucas stood side by side ready for an attack. Ness stood in front of Paula, protecting her, as Jeff took cover behind a table with his gun also pointed towards the door. Silently they waited as the crashed of broken doors came closer. From outside their door, squeals were heard louder and louder. They heard a small smack on their door before a clay man began to barge in. Once, twice, three times he slammed against the door, but on the fourth try, the strength of the wood gave way as splinters and dust from the wall littered the air. A Clay man and several pig soldiers entered the room squealing while the dust settled.
Snake: “I can’t see what I’m aiming at!”
Lucas, deciding to take action and shoot blindly, stepped forward and began to use a PK Fire but was met with a laser blast to the face. He flew into the air and through the window. Paula and Ness ran to the window and watched as he fell. Directly below him, a dark sphere began to appear in the air. Ness gasped in horror as Lucas fell through the portal and completely out of sight. There was a rustling from the doorway as Dr. Andonuts, Apple Kid, and Mr. Saturn were thrown back into the room followed by several Pork Soldiers. Snake leaned his head closer to the weapon waiting for any of them to move closer.
Apple Kid: “Sorry guys, we tried.”
Ness clenched his fists and punched the wall before turning around to face the oncoming enemies. Paula put her hand on his shoulder and stood beside him.
Ness: “I don’t know what you want, but you’ve harmed my world and my friends. It’s time for you to pay the price. Snake, Jeff NOW!”
Both Snake and Jeff fired their weapons at the doorway as Ness, Paula, and Poo ran towards the crowd with weapons, fists, and PSI magic flying.

Hyrule field was dark. Nightfall had set an hour ago, but the three travelers pressed on. Link, Zelda, and Zelda made their way across the plain disposing of small hostile creatures as they passed. It has not been long since they witnessed what use to be the barrier between Hyrule and Twilit Hyrule. Link strode on before the ladies who were in conversation.
Zelda (OoT): “So, where exactly are we headed?”
Twilight Zelda: “My Castle. It is in the center of this area of our world. It shouldn’t be much longer.”
Link: “I sure hope not. I’m tired of fighting off these keese.”
The night air became colder as the three continued on. Slowly, the occurrence of enemies lessened as they arrived closer to the castle. Upon reaching the top of a small hill, Zelda smiled as she could clearly see the peaks of her castle. For a brief moment they rejoiced, but Zelda soon caught sight of something disturbing in that general direction. Smoke was rising high into the air near what she figured to be the castle wall.
Twlight Zelda: “That doesn’t look good. Link and Midna went to the Great Sea while I left to get you all leaving the castle completely unprotected except for a few guards. Between us, those guards are pretty much useless. I hope we haven’t been tricked by Ganondorf again.”
Link: “Well, I won’t go down without a fight! You may not be my Princess Zelda, but I’ll fight for and with you just the same.”
Zelda (OoT): “I think I’ll go dressed for the occasion.”
Zelda lifted her hand and began to turn on the spot. As she twirled, a bright light shone from her blinding both Link and Zelda. After their eyes had adjusted to the darkness once more, they were no longer in the presence of Zelda. Instead they found themselves looking into the eyes of Sheik.
Sheik: “Ok, let’s head out of here. You two go ahead, and I’ll lurk in the shadows for a sneak attack.”
Link: “Good plan, Zelda stay behind me.”
Zelda nodded her head as Link began to run towards the smoke ridden horizon. She looked over as Sheik threw a deku nut and disappeared into the smoke. Zelda tossing her cloak to the ground ran on behind Link. A few yards away, Ganondorf was walking around the fire, tired of sitting in one single location. Masks Link was showing the Skull Kid his various masks and allowing him to hold the ocarina. Ganondorf continued to pace in a circle as he muttered to himself about the battle with Zankor. He could feel his new power. He was definitely stronger after that battle, meaning that all the Twili Legends must be truth. He stretched his arms into the air then turned around to head back towards the campfire. Suddenly he heard a rush of air speeding towards him. Ganondorf ducked as an arrow flew by his head.
Turning around he saw Link with bow pulled tight running his direction followed by a familiar Zelda. He did not recognize this particular Link, but his garments gave away his identity. Link shot another arrow directly at Ganondorf who simply caught the tip in the palm of his hand and threw it to the ground. Placing his bow upon his back, Link pulled out the Master Sword and yelled into the night air as he ran full force at Ganondorf. Skull Kid, who was startled by the sudden noises ran to a nearby tree and curled up along the ground. Masks Link followed in order to continue his watch over the mask clad child. Ganondorf steadied himself in preparation for the attack to come. Link dove to the ground, rolled, then sliced the Master Sword upwards as he jumped, but Ganondorf simply stepped to the side. Zelda sent a blast of Din’s Fire towards Ganondorf, but to no avail. Ganondorf grasped ahold of Link’s shield arm and kicked the shield into the air deflecting the magic. Using his arm as a pivot, Link jumped into the air and kicked Ganondorf in the mouth. Taking a few steps backwards, Ganondorf spit blood to the ground as he slowly walked towards Link. Zelda began to attack once more but was intrigued as to why Ganondorf was not actively attacking. This behavior was highly abnormal for him. She chose instead to observe his movements.
Link now had the Master Sword’s hilt in both of his hands. He swung and thrust the sword at Ganondorf who either jumped to the side or blocked each move. With a quick decision of boldness, Link jumped high into the air and pointed the sword directly at the ground as he fell down towards Ganondorf. The Gerudo King had other plans as he used the powers of twilight to disappear before the blade landed upon him. As the Master Sword sunk deep into the earth, Ganondorf re-appeared behind Link, kicked his feet out from under him and punched him in the stomach as he fell. Link was lying on the ground in pain as his sword lay stuck in the earth. Ganondorf reached for the Master Sword, pulled it from the ground and threw it sideways down at Link. Link grasped a hold of the hilt once more and looked curiously at Ganondorf.
Ganondorf: “Save your strength hero. You’ll need it for later.”
The instant Ganondorf had finished his sentence; Sheik appeared in a puff of smoke behind him and tossed her chain in his direction. Once again, as if predicting this, Ganondorf lifted his hand and grasped a hold of the end of the chain. He began to wrap it around his hand till tight before flinging his arm forward pulling Sheik through the air and to the ground in front of him directly beside Link. Ganondorf continued wrapping the chain around his hand before throwing it back at its owner.
Ganondorf: “Must you all insist that I am to blame for everything here? Honestly, and you call yourselves heroes. Come and sit by the fire while we wait for the others, since I know my signal works now. Skull Kid, get back over here. Zelda, I would like a word.”
Ganondorf walked over to a nearby stump once again and sat down. Masks link and Skull Kid looked from around the tree and ran over to the log beside Ganondorf. Highly confused, Link and Sheik stood from the ground and brushed themselves off as Zelda came to them. As they each made their way over to the fire, Zelda caught a long look at the child link across the area.
Ganondorf: “So, Zelda apparently you, Link, and that Twilight Princess decided to have a meeting of all your various incarnations regarding the recent events around this world. Did you not think that I and the other Ganondorfs would have figured it out as well?”
Zelda: “Yes, that was the plan. We were concerned when strange creatures started lurking about. So Link went with Midna to the Great Ocean, and I went to get those two. And as far as you are concerned, not only are you our enemy, but upon our decision of this matter you were missing completely. Why would we have included you in any of this?”
Ganondorf: “Irrelevant. I am here now and I am willing to be of help although it pains me to aid any of you. I was, shall we say, preoccupied. I do find it interesting, princess, that you have purposely left out my new friend from Termina.”
Zelda: “You didn’t! Oh no, why did you bring him here? I’m not entirely sure why, but Midna was very specific that Termina was to be disregarded. It was something about deep secrets that she didn’t want to bother explaining.”
Masks Link: “So you don’t think I’m capable of doing anything? Is that how it is?”
Zelda: “No, not at all. I’m sure since you are another Link that you are more than capable, it’s just…Midna….she...”
Ganondorf: “I know of what she speaks. And although this boy did save my life, we must tell him the harsh truth eventually. Since the Twilight Princess decided to leave him out, I’ll make her explain it when she gets here rather than me. Trust me when I say this boy, your life will never be the same after this night.”
Sheik: “So what are we going to do?”
Ganondorf: “Nothing until the Twilight Princess rides her pup across the field.”
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Pit yawned as he placed both of his feet on the console of the Gummi Ship. He was not used to long travels, but was enjoying the time away from Skyworld. Sora was leaned back in his char with one hand on the wheel, the other twirling the keyblade in his hand.
Sora: “So, what’s it like being the captain of an army?”
Pit: “Not too bad actually. We don’t really have any warfare now that Medusa was defeated. She gave me a nasty bit of trouble a few years back, but now all I really have to do is deal with the centurions’ horrible attitudes. They can get ripe when it’s a time of peace. It’s as if they actually enjoy hard times…strange creatures. Other than that, it’s a breeze. What about you? How did you end up with this ship?”
Sora: “Well that’s kind of a long story, but I’ll give you the highlights. Basically, my home planet was destroyed and I ended up on a strange planet with this keyblade. I met up with two individuals from another world, Donald and Goofy. We traveled through different worlds and they became two of my closest friends. In the end we defeated Ansem, the current leader of the heartless, and went on our way to find my friend Riku, and their king. I had left my other friend, Kairi on my home planet as it was being re-born, but several of my other friends were scattered across the worlds. Before we started the search for Riku and the King, I decided to hop into this Gummi Ship and head to Hollow Bastion to talk to some of my other friends who seem to know a lot about the heartless since we had defeated their leader but there were still tons of them. And now I’m here with you.”
Pit: “Sounds like we’ve both been through the ringer.”
Pit closed his eyes as he relaxed in his chair when suddenly an alarm rang out in the ship startling Pit to fall to the floor. Sora looked around for the cause and found a red button blinking on the console. He reached over to press it and heard a voice over the speaker.
Voice: “This is an S.O.S. call from the ship Hocotate. I have been shot down, I repeat, I have been shot down. I am on a desolate moon. I am sending coordinates. Please help!”
Suddenly a map appeared on the screen showing the location of the moon in question.
Sora: “This sounds serious. It’s only a short distance away, let’s stop and give him a hand. Perhaps he can help us in return.”
Pit: “But our mission, we’re almost to Hyrule and we need to”
Sora: “Yeah, I know but this is an emergency.”
Sora placed the coordinates into the computer and the Gummi Ship blasted off towards the moon. Meanwhile outside the wreckage of the Hocotate Freight Ship, Captain Olimar was walking around with his pikmin following behind. He wondered what would happen to his family and to these poor pikmin if no one was able to rescue him. He picked up a moon rock and threw it into a nearby crater out of frustration. Two hours had passed since their crash landing, and Olimar had begun to give up hope. He lay on the ground drawing pictures in the dirt while the pikmin lay in a group asleep. Olimar rolled over to look into the star-filled sky above him when he saw a small yellow speck in the distance. Thinking nothing of it he continued to map out the stars, but the spot of yellow kept increasing and increasing. Olimar jumped up and squinted his eyes. The colorful spot in the distance was actually a space ship. He jumped joyfully as he shouted into the air waking the pikmin. Each one rubbed its eyes before joining their leader.
As the ship landed, Olimar ran over towards it hopeful for a friendly crew. The boarding plank was lowered, and at the top stood two figures. Olmar briskly walked up the plank with his nervous pikmin following so closely you could barely know they were there. As he reached the top of the platform, a hand was extended his way. Olimar looked at the hand as if examining for danger then looked up at the face attached to the end of it.
Sora: “Hello there, the name’s Sora. We got your transmission are you alright?”
Olimar shook his hand before addressing him.
Olimar: “Yes, I’m perfectly fine now. Thank you very much. My crew and I were shot down. I don’t know what we would have done without you.”
Sora: “Crew? I see no crew. Besides, that ship doesn’t even look large enough to have a crew even if they were your size.”
Olimar: “You’re right, but luckily they are much smaller.”
Olimar stepped to the side to reveal the six tiny pikmin. Pit and Sora stared at them.
Pit: “What in the Wings of Icarus are those things?”
Olimar: “And you are?”
Pit: “Sorry, I’m Pit. I’m the captain of the Angel guard from Skyworld.”
Olimar: “Nice meeting you, I am Captain Olimar. Those are called pikmin. They are from a distant planet and tend to follow my orders very well. Usually many of them journey with me in small ships called Onions, but with so few I just had them aboard the Hocotate. Well, Hocotate Freight Ship is its official name, but I’ve recently gotten into the habit of just calling it the Hocotate to spread general confusion. It’s quite fun really. Not that it really matters now. I could just call it the Scrap Heap.”
Sora bent over and picked up the blue pikmin who began to shake and squeal from fear.
Olimar: “Hey put him down! He’s afraid you’re going to eat him!”
Sora: “Woah sorry there buddy. What weird little things. Anyway, why were you shot down?”
Olimar: “I’m not really sure. I’ve never really made many enemies, and I’ve never seen a wooden space ship before.”
Pit: “Well I hate to cut this short, but we have to be off to Hyrule.”
Sora: “Oh yeah, I almost forgot. Hey Olimar we need to head to this other world first, care to come along?”
Olimar: “Does it look like I have any other choice? I’d be glad to come even if I did. Besides, I am in your debt now.”
Sora: “Well if you can help us, perhaps we can help you find that wooden space ship that shot you down and teach it some manners. Well, let’s get moving.”
Sora Pit and Olimar took their seats in the Gummi ship while the pikmin rested in the corner closest to their leader. Quickly the Gummi Ship lifted off the ground and blasted on to nearby Hyrule.
Fourside City was in chaos. The pleasant air around the sky scrapers had been replaced with screams and rising smoke from the destruction. Around every corner, some creature was causing mischief.
