Chapter 23: The Clashing Dragons
Lyn and Sothe hurried down the hallway to Marth and the others. The news that a new star ship was approaching unsettled them both. They saw Ike’s cape sweep around a corner as they ran on. Lyn used her great speed to rush out of sight while Sothe kept to his pace. Stopping right behind them, Lyn shouted, startling the group.
Lyn: “HEY! Would you wait for just two seconds? We have something important to tell you.”
Roy: “What’s up now? I’m starving; can this wait till after the feast?”
Sothe: “No, one of the soldiers has reported that another star ship is approaching. This one does not seem out of control, however.”
Marth: “Well this is just great. Let’s go see what this is all about.”
Roy: “But….food!”
Ike: “Come on, we might as well get it over with.”
Roy let out a louder than normal sigh to show his annoyance with more interruptions as they all began to walk back down the hallway and out to the courtyard. Marth, who was in the lead, stopped at the top of the stairs and looked up into the sky. As the others followed, they could see that the soldier’s words were true. There was an orange nearly circular space ship high in the clouds. It was descending at a brisk pace. Nearby soldiers began to grip their bows, swords, and shields as to prepare for the worst. As the ship drew nearer it disappeared behind the low lying clouds. The heroes began to grasp hold of their weapons and searched the clouds for any sign of landing. Suddenly small jets of flame were descending into the courtyard as the black bottom of the ship floated downwards. As the full body of the ship was in clear sight, Falco began to chuckle.
Marth: “Is that who I think it is?”
Roy: “Yeah, it’s her alright!”
Marth: “Men, fall back; this is a friend!”
Ike: “Who is it?”
Falco: “Samus Aran…she’s a galactic bounty hunter. Marth, Roy, and I met her on the Smash Planet a few years ago. She’s a tough competitor, but why is she here?”
Sothe: “Well there’s one obvious way to find out, ask her.”
Falco: “Thanks for the newsflash, don’t know if I could have figured that out by myself.”
Marth’s soldiers backed away as the great vessel landed gently on the grass. The ship was motionless but the sound of the engines and electroics rang through the air. Suddenly, smoke issued from one side as the landing platform opened to the ground below. Samus, still in her Power Suit, began walking down the platform followed closely by the Ice Climbers. Although the soldiers had seen strange things before, the sight of this iron clad warrior frightened many. Samus looked around until she saw the group of heroes at the top of the stairs. Recognizing three friendly faces she put her free hand and lited her helmet revealing her blonde hair to wave in the wind. Those who were not shocked by this newcomer were now staring in disbelief that this advanced warrior was a woman. Samus looked down at the Ice Climbers and motioned them to follow. Quickly the three made their way up the stairs to approach their friends.
Samus: “Greetings Marth and Roy! It’s a relief to see friendly faces.”
Marth: “It’s always a pleasure, Samus. I’d like to introduce you to our fellow lords, Micaiah, Lyn, and Ike. That down there is Sothe, and of course you know Falco.”
Samus: “Yeah I remember him. What exactly are you doing here, Falco? If you are here, then Fox must be here as well right?”
Falco: “Heh, not exactly. We were attacked by some giant space freak named the Destroyer, a puppet named Geno, and a purple dragon…I think its name was Ridley out at Kirby’s planet, Pop Star. Our Arwings went spinning in different directions and as you can see to your left, that’s what happened to mine.”
Nana: “Ridley? Well what a concidence.”
Ike: “What do you mean? What does this dragon have to do with you three?”
Samus: “I don’t think I ever talked much about my past have I?”
Roy: “Not really…when we met at the Smash Planet we were all a little intimidated by your power suit to really talk to you period.”
Samus lowered her head and let out a sigh. Taking a deep breathe she faced the crowd before her.
Samus: “Well, a long time ago on the colony of K-2L, I happily lived with my parents. One day Space Pirates invaded our home and killed many people, my father and mother included. This raid was initiated by one of the high ranking officer of the Space Pirates, a giant dragon named Ridley. After that day, I swore that I would not rest until I rid the universe of Space Pirates and kill the one who was responsible for my parents’ deaths. After becoming a bounty hunter, I tracked down Ridley and have fought him several times, and eventually defeated him once and for all. I left his bones to decay on the stone floor of the ruins as a message to other Space Pirates. I thought he was gone for good till I received an S.O.S. from the Ice Climbers.
After our meeting on the Smash Planet I gave them a communicator to contact me if there were any problems since their planet is near mine. I immediately jumped in my ship to investigate, and when I got to Icicle Mountain, the entire world was drowning in lava. Lava should not be able to raise that high. Luckily I had enough time to do a scan of the energy in the atmosphere. There were two types of energy; a powerful force of which I had never seen, and a barely readable trace of something very familiar. It was the energy of Ridley. We quickly hopped into my star ship along with what very few creatures of their planet remained and flew back to the scene of Ridley’s death. Sure enough his bones were missing and the powerful energy was abundant there. After a small skirmish we left in search for Ridley. There were two separate energy sources with the same powerful frequency emanating from them. One of the sources was on this planet so we decided to come here.”
Lyn: “Wow, that’s quite a story. We have not seen any space dragon, but an evil force here was showing extreme power and strange abilities he never had before. We actually just returned from a battle against him in the Fire Fields to the south.
Samus pulled out her device once more and turned it on. She began to point it in different directions but when the pointed the scanner to the south it began to light up and alarm. Looking at the display she nodded her head before putting it away
Samus: “Yeah, that’s the same reading I got off Ridley’s trail. It’s also showing the same amounts of energy as they were back at the ruins, so if he happened to be here, then he is no longer. Although something doesn’t seem right about the situation. You said that you just fought a battle against a normal foe from this word and he was showing strange powers…if Ridley was involved in giving him these powers, he would have joined the cause. It’s not in Ridley’s nature to leave the promise of blood. This leads me to believe that rather than Ridley flying to two separate places in sequence and leaving a stream of energy behind everwhere he went, there must be a second being. One came here the other went Southwest. This isn’t good, this isn’t good at all”
Falco: “Well like I said, there were three of them at Pop Star, so I’m guessing the puppet was who came here. The master would have given off higher readings. We probably would have been able to see Ridley given his size, but with Geno, being a much smaller size, would have gone undetected.”
Popo: “Well we gotta go out there and stop em before we have any more repeats of what happened back on Icicle Mountain.”
Samus: “Agreed, Would you all care to join us? You said that you had defeated the enemy here, so your world should be safe in the meantime right?”
Micaiah: “Yeah, the Black Knight was our strongest surviving enemy, and given those wounds not even healers could save him. It would take the act of the gods to spare his life after Falco’s weapon.”
Marth: “I’d love to join, but we all can’t just leave this world without a ruler. Everytime that happens some power hungry fool decides to take over, and then we find ourselves in the middle of a war all over again.”
Roy: “What about Sothe?”
Sothe: “Huh? What about me?”
Ike: “Well we’ve all been rulers and lords of sorts with the exception of you. You’re kind of the odd one out in the group. Perhaps this could be your shining moment.”
Sothe: “I’d rather go with you all and fight.”
Falco: “Is that because you want to help, or are there alterior motives?
Marth: “Sothe, we all can’t go fight in this thing. Someone must stay behind to watch the planet, unless someone else wishes to stay behind.”
Lyn: “No offense Sothe, but I know none of us will be willing to stay behind. We are all proven lords and wish to keep our standing. Perhaps you are more needed here, especially since you did such a grand job on your last mission.”
Sothe (letting out a loud sigh): “Fine, I shall attempt to do you all proud and lead our people in your absences if that is your command.”
Marth: “So be it! Thank you very much for your sacrifice. You’ll be awareded the title of full lord when we return. We are all on the mission, Samus. When do we leave?”
Roy: “Hold on there bud, my stomach has been growling for the past twenty minutes and I’m not leaving this rock until I get some food.”
Samus: “That’s fine, I need to double check a few things about the ship before we take flight. Nothing big, why don’t you all go enjoy your victory banquet.”
Nana: “Hey Marth, can we join too? I’m starving!”
Marth: “Sure thing, there’s plenty in there. I’ll bring you back a plate, Samus.”
Roy: “Well I’m heading on now before you all eat everything.”
Falco: “Hey, Hands off my bread!”

Ridley flew into the atmosphere of the nearby planet. Althoug his new companion, Giygas, felt hopefull that one of the powers on this planet would join them, Ridley was in no mood for conversation. He wanted bloodshed; for it had been too long since his razor sharp teeth had pierced flesh. The destruction of Icicle Mountain was not satisfactory. The atmosphere was pleasant on this planet. Ridley flew through the skies in search of this great creature in the atmosphere, this dragon. Hungry for a fight he became annoyed when he saw no signs of any creature. Looking at the ground below he noticed a high volcanic mountain in the northern end of a small conitent. Perhaps he would use his new powers over fire to draw some attention his way. Just enough destruction to cause attention, not enough to do any real damage; the real damage would wait for his fight.
Ridley dove closer to ground level and snatched up a small brown bird on the way. Swallowing it whole, he dove through the clouds and came to a hault above the land. Concentrating his energy, he built up fire within his mouth and shot a burst of black flame towards the mountain. The surface of the lava on Mount Chimney began to bubble, and before long volcanic rock was spewing into the atmosphere. Smoke rose high into the air as the lava began to overflow and pour slowly down the side of the mountain. Ridley flew into the air once more to search for additional volcanic mountains. One was on a large island in a continent to the East, and the other was in an island to the south. Ridley repeated his fire attack on both Stark Mountain and Citadark Isle. Once all three were sending smoke into the air, Ridley waited impatiently in the center of the points. His wait was not long. Within minutes a blast of energy hit Ridley from behind. The purple dragon whipped around to see a large, long, green dragon flying his way at full speed. This dragon shot another pulse towars Ridley who flew out of its path. Both dragons stopped in the air and stared at each other.
Rayquaza: “So, you are the cause of the chaos on our planet. The fox had described you well. You are infact the one who helped destroy another planet. I am Rayquaza, the guardian of this planet. Leave now or be destroyed.”
Ridley grinned menacingly before giving out a small low laugh. He began to circle Rayquaza who was doing the same. Suddenly Ridley shot a blast of dark energy at Rayquaza who moved only slightly to allow it to pass.
Rayquaza: “You’re going to have to do better than that dragon. I was not created to be the guardian of the entire planet for nothing. I gather by your lack of speech that you are not capable of speaking even simplistic Poke-talk. If you shall not leave, I have no other choice than to fight you. I gave you the opportunity I have not given others. Prepare to die.”
Instantly each dragon rushed towards the other. Ridley whipped his tail around to smack Rayquaza in the face who followed with a Dragonbreath attack to Ridley’s. Biting and tearing at each other, Rayquaza used his long body to bind Ridley. He then nosedived towards a barren area of the planet beneath them. Ridley struggled against Rayquaza’s death grip upon him with no success. Only a few feet before the ground, Rayquaza loosened his grip forcing Ridley to crash into the rocks below. Dirt flew into the air as Rayquaza charged up another Dragon Pulse. Sudeenly a beam of black energy shot from the debris. Rayquaza fired his Dragon Pulse in an attempt to block the beam, but it was useless. The beam broke through the attack and struck Rayquaza sending him into the ocean nearby. Ridley stepped out of the rubble and screamed into the air as he took flight. Quickly he made his way to the ocean, breaking through a flock of wingull. As he approached the water, Rayquaza burst from it grabbing Ridley in his mouth. Biting down hard, he took to the skies. Ridley sent a burst of flame at Rayquaza’s eyes which caused the massive dragon to release Ridley. Just as Ridley regained his position in the air, Rayquaza’s tail struck him in the abdomen. The two dragons spaced themselves and began to circle once more.
Rayquaza: “You’re fair, but I’m just getting started.”

Blissfully onaware of the chaotic events around them, Meowth and Blaziken were walking along a route discussing what happened during Mewtwo’s Council Meeting. Blaziken, who had befriended Meowth several years ago, was always interested in the happenings of the elite.
Blaziken: “So basically this Fox from the stars shows up and tells you all that our planet will be destroyed by a dragon, a puppet, and some cloaked man?”
Meowth: “Yeah, that’s pretty much the jist of his whole tune. Sounds pretty ridiculous if you ask me. I mean, we have tons of dragons around here and none of them, not even Rayquaza has the power to destroy a whole planet. Plus some human and a puppet? Give me a break! The chance of that happening is about one in…”
Suddenly a large ball of dark enegy blasted a large hole in the earth direcly in front of Blazikean and Meowth. Blaziken jumped high to avoid any damage, but meowth flew into the air. He landed upsidedown in a nearby tree. Cursing loudly, Meowth began to struggle to free himself from the limb. Blaziken quicly ran towards the tree and performed a blaze kick to the limb forcing meowth back to the ground. Meowth landed on his feet to only be struck in the head by the falling branch.
Meowth: “OWWWWWW”
Blaziken: “Sorry about that, you should have moved.”
Meowth crawled out from under the branch and began to look around at what could have possibly caused this disturbance.
Meowth: “Show your face you cowardly rats! Bring it right here so I can slap it off ya. Why I outta...”
To the left of the path the grass began to stir. Closer and closer the parting grass moved towards them. Blaziken prepared himself for a fight, while Meowth was huffing and fuming. Suddenly from the edge of the grass jumped a pokemon. It was a medium sized black and white cat-like creature with a scythe to once side of its head. Absol had appeared before them. Both Meowth and Blaziken began to show signs of concern. Absol only appeared before a major disaster.
Meowth: “Did….did you shoot that blast?”
Absol: “If you think I could have done that, then you are an idiot. Unless I am wrong, you are a member of the Pokemon Council correct?”
Meowth: “Yeah, but they’re a bunch of wackos.”
Absol: “WATCH OUT!”
Absol jumped into the air and knocked both Blaziken and Meowth into the nearby bushes as a burst from a Dragon Pulse smashed into the nearby tree completely destroying it.
Absol: “You two ok?”
Blaziken: “Yes, but what just happened?”
Absol: “It’s what I’m here about. I felt a disturbance heading our way and ran to get Mewtwo and the council, but upon reaching the Abandoned Temple, I found nothing but a couple rattata fighting over a pokeblock. Where is Mewtwo?”
Meowth: “He left with a few others of the Pokemon Council to go fight against some evil forces. They aren’t on this planet anymore.”
Another blast of dark energy bore its way into a nearby mountain. Meowth, Absol, and Blaziken looked into the sky to see their guardian, Rayquaza, and the purple dragon Ridley in fierce battle.
Meowth: “He was telling the truth. That purple dragon is exactly what Fox had described when he talked before us. I didn’t believe him”
Blaziken: “Wait, You said they went to go fight this dragon and the others. If the dragon is here, what do you suppose happened to the others?”
Absol: “Lets not worry about that now. We need to do something about this creature and its presence here, but even if we stop him, I fear there is more evil on this planet. We must warn the pokemon.”
Meowth: “I remember that little Pichu saying that there was a lever in the Council’s temple that gave the signal for us all. If we can hurry up and get there, we can flip that lever and summon at least the remining legends.”
Absol: “Excellent idea, we better get going. I just hope Rayquaza is strong enough to hold him off till we can help.
Together Meowth, Absol and Blaziken tore through the open fields in desperation for warning the other pokemon. They knew that if they didn’t hurry, the whole world could perish.

Ridley flew into the atmosphere of the nearby planet. Althoug his new companion, Giygas, felt hopefull that one of the powers on this planet would join them, Ridley was in no mood for conversation. He wanted bloodshed; for it had been too long since his razor sharp teeth had pierced flesh. The destruction of Icicle Mountain was not satisfactory. The atmosphere was pleasant on this planet. Ridley flew through the skies in search of this great creature in the atmosphere, this dragon. Hungry for a fight he became annoyed when he saw no signs of any creature. Looking at the ground below he noticed a high volcanic mountain in the northern end of a small conitent. Perhaps he would use his new powers over fire to draw some attention his way. Just enough destruction to cause attention, not enough to do any real damage; the real damage would wait for his fight.
Ridley dove closer to ground level and snatched up a small brown bird on the way. Swallowing it whole, he dove through the clouds and came to a hault above the land. Concentrating his energy, he built up fire within his mouth and shot a burst of black flame towards the mountain. The surface of the lava on Mount Chimney began to bubble, and before long volcanic rock was spewing into the atmosphere. Smoke rose high into the air as the lava began to overflow and pour slowly down the side of the mountain. Ridley flew into the air once more to search for additional volcanic mountains. One was on a large island in a continent to the East, and the other was in an island to the south. Ridley repeated his fire attack on both Stark Mountain and Citadark Isle. Once all three were sending smoke into the air, Ridley waited impatiently in the center of the points. His wait was not long. Within minutes a blast of energy hit Ridley from behind. The purple dragon whipped around to see a large, long, green dragon flying his way at full speed. This dragon shot another pulse towars Ridley who flew out of its path. Both dragons stopped in the air and stared at each other.
Rayquaza: “So, you are the cause of the chaos on our planet. The fox had described you well. You are infact the one who helped destroy another planet. I am Rayquaza, the guardian of this planet. Leave now or be destroyed.”
Ridley grinned menacingly before giving out a small low laugh. He began to circle Rayquaza who was doing the same. Suddenly Ridley shot a blast of dark energy at Rayquaza who moved only slightly to allow it to pass.
Rayquaza: “You’re going to have to do better than that dragon. I was not created to be the guardian of the entire planet for nothing. I gather by your lack of speech that you are not capable of speaking even simplistic Poke-talk. If you shall not leave, I have no other choice than to fight you. I gave you the opportunity I have not given others. Prepare to die.”
Instantly each dragon rushed towards the other. Ridley whipped his tail around to smack Rayquaza in the face who followed with a Dragonbreath attack to Ridley’s. Biting and tearing at each other, Rayquaza used his long body to bind Ridley. He then nosedived towards a barren area of the planet beneath them. Ridley struggled against Rayquaza’s death grip upon him with no success. Only a few feet before the ground, Rayquaza loosened his grip forcing Ridley to crash into the rocks below. Dirt flew into the air as Rayquaza charged up another Dragon Pulse. Sudeenly a beam of black energy shot from the debris. Rayquaza fired his Dragon Pulse in an attempt to block the beam, but it was useless. The beam broke through the attack and struck Rayquaza sending him into the ocean nearby. Ridley stepped out of the rubble and screamed into the air as he took flight. Quickly he made his way to the ocean, breaking through a flock of wingull. As he approached the water, Rayquaza burst from it grabbing Ridley in his mouth. Biting down hard, he took to the skies. Ridley sent a burst of flame at Rayquaza’s eyes which caused the massive dragon to release Ridley. Just as Ridley regained his position in the air, Rayquaza’s tail struck him in the abdomen. The two dragons spaced themselves and began to circle once more.
Rayquaza: “You’re fair, but I’m just getting started.”

Blissfully onaware of the chaotic events around them, Meowth and Blaziken were walking along a route discussing what happened during Mewtwo’s Council Meeting. Blaziken, who had befriended Meowth several years ago, was always interested in the happenings of the elite.
Blaziken: “So basically this Fox from the stars shows up and tells you all that our planet will be destroyed by a dragon, a puppet, and some cloaked man?”
Meowth: “Yeah, that’s pretty much the jist of his whole tune. Sounds pretty ridiculous if you ask me. I mean, we have tons of dragons around here and none of them, not even Rayquaza has the power to destroy a whole planet. Plus some human and a puppet? Give me a break! The chance of that happening is about one in…”
Suddenly a large ball of dark enegy blasted a large hole in the earth direcly in front of Blazikean and Meowth. Blaziken jumped high to avoid any damage, but meowth flew into the air. He landed upsidedown in a nearby tree. Cursing loudly, Meowth began to struggle to free himself from the limb. Blaziken quicly ran towards the tree and performed a blaze kick to the limb forcing meowth back to the ground. Meowth landed on his feet to only be struck in the head by the falling branch.
Meowth: “OWWWWWW”
Blaziken: “Sorry about that, you should have moved.”
Meowth crawled out from under the branch and began to look around at what could have possibly caused this disturbance.
Meowth: “Show your face you cowardly rats! Bring it right here so I can slap it off ya. Why I outta...”
To the left of the path the grass began to stir. Closer and closer the parting grass moved towards them. Blaziken prepared himself for a fight, while Meowth was huffing and fuming. Suddenly from the edge of the grass jumped a pokemon. It was a medium sized black and white cat-like creature with a scythe to once side of its head. Absol had appeared before them. Both Meowth and Blaziken began to show signs of concern. Absol only appeared before a major disaster.
Meowth: “Did….did you shoot that blast?”
Absol: “If you think I could have done that, then you are an idiot. Unless I am wrong, you are a member of the Pokemon Council correct?”
Meowth: “Yeah, but they’re a bunch of wackos.”
Absol: “WATCH OUT!”
Absol jumped into the air and knocked both Blaziken and Meowth into the nearby bushes as a burst from a Dragon Pulse smashed into the nearby tree completely destroying it.
Absol: “You two ok?”
Blaziken: “Yes, but what just happened?”
Absol: “It’s what I’m here about. I felt a disturbance heading our way and ran to get Mewtwo and the council, but upon reaching the Abandoned Temple, I found nothing but a couple rattata fighting over a pokeblock. Where is Mewtwo?”
Meowth: “He left with a few others of the Pokemon Council to go fight against some evil forces. They aren’t on this planet anymore.”
Another blast of dark energy bore its way into a nearby mountain. Meowth, Absol, and Blaziken looked into the sky to see their guardian, Rayquaza, and the purple dragon Ridley in fierce battle.
Meowth: “He was telling the truth. That purple dragon is exactly what Fox had described when he talked before us. I didn’t believe him”
Blaziken: “Wait, You said they went to go fight this dragon and the others. If the dragon is here, what do you suppose happened to the others?”
Absol: “Lets not worry about that now. We need to do something about this creature and its presence here, but even if we stop him, I fear there is more evil on this planet. We must warn the pokemon.”
Meowth: “I remember that little Pichu saying that there was a lever in the Council’s temple that gave the signal for us all. If we can hurry up and get there, we can flip that lever and summon at least the remining legends.”
Absol: “Excellent idea, we better get going. I just hope Rayquaza is strong enough to hold him off till we can help.
Together Meowth, Absol and Blaziken tore through the open fields in desperation for warning the other pokemon. They knew that if they didn’t hurry, the whole world could perish.
