Chapter 19: The Black Knight’s Battle
Mewtwo was sitting in the same place he had been for the past few hours. His eyes closed focusing on the orbs that had entered their galaxy. He traveled with his mind across the stars in search for evidence of any strange activity. Fox was fiddling with his blaster as he thought of Krystal. Why had he so often taken duty and other matters before her? If he never saw her again, he would regret it for the rest of his life. Lucario had taken a break from his searching with aura to do some physical training with Captain Falcon in his weight room aboard the Falcon Flyer. The remaining pokemon were fast asleep. Suddenly Mewtwo’s eyes shot open as he stood up.
Mewtwo: “Falcon, get in here we need to leave NOW”
Fox: “What’s going on?”
Mewtwo: “I know where one of the orbs has landed. It’s in Hyrule. Several terrible things have happened there. Apparently the barriers have been broken and I’m getting a feeling of destruction there.”
Lucario: “Do you think their planet will be next?”
Mewtwo: “More than likely, but we need to get there FAST!”
Captain Falcon nodded his head as he jumped into the pilot seat, flipped the control switches and blasted off towards Hyrule.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Micaiah was flipping through her spell book as she walked along with the other heroes. Falco was following closely behind her talking to Ike.
Ike: “The good thing is, we have a rather diverse army. Black Knight’s army is mainly sword bearing solders. We have soldiers, archers, and mages such as Micaiah.”
Falco: “So what does that mean exactly?”
Ike: “Well we’ve noticed that a more diverse army does better because they can play off each other’s strengths and weaknesses.”
Falco began to look around at the mass of people following behind them. He looked ahead of him to see not only Lyn examining her sword, but Marth and Roy bickering about something he probably could have cared less about. His eyes kept being drawn towards Micaiah though. Never before had he experienced such a peculiar reaction towards another. He wasn’t quite sure what it was, but he liked this new feeling.
Roy: “I swear, you are such a woman.”
Marth: “Why? Because I want to look somewhat decent before I go into battle?”
Roy: “UM hello? It’s a BATTLE! If you’re going to play with your hair then you might as well put on a dress.”
Lyn: “Would you two lay off for awhile! I’m sick of your stupid squabbling! We’re almost to the Fire Valley anyway. I’m sure Black Knight’s Army will be here any second.”
Marth, Roy, Ike, Lyn, Micaiah, and Falco stood at the top of the ridge with their army behind them. They observed the large flat surface of the Fire Valley that was soon to become their battleground. Falco leaned over towards Micaiah who had closed her book.
Falco: “You ready for this?”
Micaiah: “As much as I can be. He doesn’t have many archers which is good.”
Falco: “I’m guessing archers are bad?”
Micaiah: “Well yeah, mages are weak against archers.”
Falco: “Well, don’t worry; I’ll take care of ‘em for ya.”
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Black Knight was leading his army towards the Fire Valley. Silently they marched on at a steady pace. Immediately behind him were his captain, and three bodiless armor soldiers. Not entirely pleased with his current company, the Captain broke rank to speak with The Black knight.
Captain: “Sir, if you don’t mind me asking, what exactly is the purpose of these things?”
BK: “Their purpose is to take on the leaders, Marth, Roy, and Ike.”
Captain: “What if there are other strong amongst them?”
BK: “Why, they shall be yours, of course.”
Captain: “Thank you sir.”
They marched on silently for several minutes before the Captain spoke up once more
Captain: “Sir, I sent a small party towards their castle. Their objective is to loot the armory and such. Perhaps even if we lose…”
BK: “LOSE? Are you suggesting that an army of this size with my newfound power and minions will actually LOSE to this puny resistance?”
Captain: “No sir, I just…”
BK: “ENOUGH! Such doubt is a sign of complete ignorance and weakness. I will not have such in my army! Back to your ranks”
The captain fell behind muttering under his breath. He knew that if nothing else, Black Knight’s overconfidence would cause them to lose.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Black Knight’s army kept their steady pace till they reached the ridge on the opposite end of the Fire Valley. Both armies faced each other. Falco placed his bazooka down on the ground and prepared his blasters. Marth, Roy, Ike, and Lyn stood with swords ready. Micaiah closed her spell book and stared at the mass of soldiers ahead. The Black knight stepped forward to the edge of the ridge and called out to the army across the valley.
BK: “This is your final chance! Surrender now to our power or die here in battle!”
Ike: “You shall not prevail!”
Marth: “We will never surrender!”
BK: “So be it! Men…CHARGE!!!!”
The Black Knights pawns began to run down the slope to the Fire Valley below with swords and axes raised. The archers camped out near the top of the ridge with bows ready. The few mages at the Black Knight’s disposal were dispersed amongst the fighters. The three bodiless suits of armor and the Captain stayed back with the Black Knight, who turned around to address them.
BK: “Captain, you stay here with me, But you three… There are three male elite on the other side of this ridge. Each must pick one and destroy them. Wait for my signal to do so.”
The three armors saluted the Black Knight and ran down to join the fray in search for Marth, Ike, and Roy. The skeptical Captain stood beside his leader and watched as the battle began.
Marth turned to his men with a determined look on his face, raised his sword ready to give the signal to attack. As soon as he slashed his blade in the direction of the Black Knight’s Forces, their army raised their swords and began running into battle. Roy Lyn and Ike immediately followed. Marth, Micaiah, and Falco were not far behind. When they reached the bottom of the slope, Falco placed his bazooka down and pulled out both of his blasters.
Marth’s archers began sending waves of arrows at the Black Knight’s army. Many fell to the ground from direct shots to the throat. The Black Knight’s archers began to follow soon after. Arrows were flying all across the valley as many hit their target. The mages began casting spells everywhere. It was pandemonium before the soldiers even met. The two armies met in a thunderous clash. Swords were swinging, axes penetrating bodies as well as ground. Everywhere you could see, there were clashes of swords on shield. Cries rang out as men from both armies gave their last breath.
Ike was swinging his massive sword, which annihilated two to three men at once per swing. Roy’s sword erupted into flame as he slashed through several more fighters. Micaiah was shooting light magic around at the waves of fighters yet to come. Lyn was facing off against a rather skilled mage, which ended abruptly with the end of her sword through his skull. Marth weaved through the hordes of soldiers taking them out one by one. The Black Knight’s forces were confused by Falco’s presence and gave him a decent amount of room. Such technology was not present in the Land of Fire. His blasters were shooting at full force as he kicked his reflector around knocking enemies down before blasting them. As the battle waged on, the experience of the lords and their army were annihilating those of the Black Knight. The Captain was already admitting defeat, but Black Knight, however, remained calm and confident. As his numbers depleted, he watched unmoving from his spot, until he suddenly cried out over the field.
BK: “NOW MY MINIONS! ATTACK!”
Suddenly from nowhere, the three bodiless armored soldiers appeared with a broadsword in each hand. Each made a run towards Marth, Ike, and Roy. Realizing their immediate peril, each lord turned and began to engage the new foe. The rest of the Black Knight’s army focused on Lyn, Micaiah, Falco, and the rest of Marth’s army. Falco was still firing off blaster shots at the small horde of enemies as Lyn slashed through lines of them with breathtaking speed. Micaiah was still taking out large groups at a time with her magic. Having observed her for a short time, all of the Black Knight’s archers took aim at Micaiah. The sudden dispersion of enemies around her gave away their intention. She looked up towards the archers to see a barrage of arrows headed straight for her. Bracing herself, she closed her eyes in preparation for death, but no arrows came. As she opened her eyes Falco stood directly in front of her fully using his deflector to stop the rain of arrows from touching her. As the last arrow fell harmlessly to the ground, Falco turned off the deflector and began blasting the archers on the hill.
Micaiah: “Thank you Falco, I….I just…”
Falco: “Don’t mention it. I told ya I’d take care of ya! I’m just glad I remembered how to use this thing properly.”
He sent a few more shots up towards the archers, and then jumped into the air to take care of some nearby soldiers. Ike, Marth, and Roy were having some difficulty with these new enemies. They were extremely fast and skilled. Every blow the lords would attempt would be blocked by the enemies. Ike, who was slower than the others, was having the most difficulty keeping away from harm. Realizing the danger, Lyn rushed in to help. A single strike to the head should have taken care of this soldier. But once she did, the helmet simply fell to the ground and the rest of the body continued to fight. Suddenly the entire mood of the battle had changed.
Roy: “Um, just exactly what in the hell are these things?”
Marth: “They sure do know how to fight, whatever they are.”
Lyn: “They…they don’t have bodies. They are empty bodies of armor.”
After realizing this, Roy and Marth knocked the helmet off their enemy as well. Once the helmet hit the ground, it remained motionless.
Marth: “It seems they need to be dismantled or destroyed all at once. Mere swordplay won’t do the trick.”
Ike: “ I’ve got an idea! Lyn, take care of this one for me.”
Lyn jumped in and began to battle the empty armor while Ike ran into the center of the field. He stopped at a small crack in the surface of the earth. He closed his eyes as he raised his sword up into the air. Concentrating fully on his sword, the air around him became increasingly hot. Higher and higher the temperature rose until he shouted into the air and thrust his sword into the crack. The ground began to tremble from Ike’s attack until holes began appearing across the Fire Valley. Flame and Lava began to spew out of the earth. Several men from both armies fled to the top of the ridge as molten rock and liquid flew everywhere. Roy, Lyn and Marth knew exactly what to do. They began circling around the bodiless soldiers swords still clashing. Suddenly all three ducked as a sword was sent their way. This sudden change in fighting threw the enemies off and gave the heroes the chance they needed. Almost in unison, all three kicked their bodiless soldier into spewing fire or lava, destroying them instantly.
Captain: “Sir, shall I call the order to retreat?”
BK: “SUCH COWARDICE! This battle is far from over. I shall take care of these impudent fools myself. And when I am done, you shall be demoted from your position.”
The Black Knight hit the captain in the stomach forcing him to topple over on the ground. He raised his sword over his shoulder as he began to walk down towards the lords. Black Knight’s army made a path as he trod on towards the heroes. Falco looked up to see the Black Knight approaching.
Falco: “Guys, we got a problem over here….and I mean a BIG problem.”
Marth: “Don’t be to awe inspired. He may be tough, but he’s been beaten before.”
As Marth finished his sentence, a nearby flame shot up from the earth causing a large boulder to fly into the air. As it fell back to the ground, it seemed to be heading straight for the Black Knight. Completely un-phased by this rock, Black Knight lifted his hand towards it and shot a blast of Dark Energy at it, turning the stone to powder.
Marth: “But then again…he’s never done THAT before.”
All fighting from both armies came to a halt. Marth, Roy, Ike, Lyn, Micaiah, and Falco stood with weapons ready facing the Black Knight. Marth’s army stood immediately behind and beside them ready to give their life to protect the lords. Black Knights army however stood behind him. Several feet away, the Black Knight stopped and addressed his opponents.
BK: “Lord of the Land of Fire. This is your last warning. Leave now, admit defeat, and you shall only be killed quickly.”
Lyn: “We’ve beaten most of your army, and we can defeat you as well.”
Ike: “We shall never stand down. If we die, we shall die on this battlefield.”
With that, several of Marth’s army rushed in front of them as a guard. The Black Knight began to laugh hystarically.
BK: “HA! Such foolish bravery You have no idea of the power that I have attained. But if that be your wish, I shall oblige.”
Black Knight raised his arms into the air with a yell. As he lowered them, a black aura appeared around his entire body. He lifted his sword and began to swing at the guard standing before him. With each swing, no less than 10 solders bodies were sent hurdling through the air. The heroes had seen enough. All 6 of them began to rush the Black Knight. Micaiah was sending magic constantly all of which were being stopped by blasts of energy from the Black Knight’s unoccupied hand. Lyn attempted to confuse him with her speed, but she was blocked at every attempt. Falco’s blasters were proving pointless against his aura and armor. Marth, Roy and Ike were directly in front of Black Knight fighting fiercely. Each swing of the sword was met with Black Knight’s Sword. Ike tossed his sword up into the air, jumped to grab it and began to fly downwards on top of the Black Knight, but to no avail. Black Knight shot a blast of his aura around his whole body knocking everyone back. He then flew into the sky and began sending blasts of dark energy at the fighters. They all scattered as the barrage of energy was raining upon them. Lyn weaved in an out of the shots with easy. Ike, Marth and Roy were using teleporting magic to escape to various parts of the battle ground. Micaiah was sending return fire and using a shielding spell, but Falco, who had pulled out his deflector, was kicking it at each shot sending them back at the Black Knight. Several of these returned shots hit their target, which gave Falco a brilliant idea.
Falco: “Micaiah! Shoot a strong blast at me! Attack ME not him!”
Micaiah: “Have you lost your mind?”
Falco: “Nope…just finally using it. Trust me.”
Lyn, Ike, Marth and Roy all three began to run to the Black Knight’s backside which caught his attention. The Black Knight’s preoccupation with the four left him completely unaware of Micaiah’s doings. Falco rushed to a position horizontal to the Black Knight. Micaiah mustered all of the magic she could in one giant ball. She released it in Falco’s direction. As it sped towards Falco, he jumped into the air and kicked his deflector towards the left side of the magical attack. This successfully sent the attack streaming towards the Black Knight. As he was landing, he kicked the deflector once more to add more speed to the attack. The heroes saw the attack and scattered. Black Knight turned back around, but the second he did, Micaiah’s attack hit him in the face. The attack’s devastation sent the Black Knight flying to the ground. The group gathered together and began to slowly walk towards the small crater created by his body. When they were within a few feet of the hole, an enormous beam of energy shot out as the Black Knight rose above them into the air.
Black Knight: “I’m done with this! Time to show the extent of my power!”
He conjured up all the energy he could into a large beam. He shot the concentrated energy across the field destroying several of his own and Marth’s army. The heroes began running towards him in an attempt to avoid the beam. As they were running, Falco noticed something strange. The beam was becoming smaller and smaller the longer it was being used. Suddenly the beam stopped completely and the Black Knight fell to the ground. He stood up quickly and began thrusting his arm forward in an attempt to use more energy, but nothing happened.
Roy: “Yeah you sure did show the extent of your power.”
BK: “It’s not working! Why has my power been denied? Cursed puppet! No matter, I will still fight!”
Roy, Marth, and Ike stepped forward to engage the Black Knight as Lyn and Micaiah stood ready to help. Falco however ran in the opposite direction. Swords continued to clash, but the skill of the Black Knight was still prevalent as neither of the swordsmen could lay a single attack on him. The struggle lasted for several more minutes before Falco’s voice could be heard.
Falco: “YO SARDINE CAN!”
Ike, Marth, and Roy quickly ran away from the black Knight. Who looked around confused at where the voice was coming from. Micaiah and Lyn, who were standing close to each other stepped aside to reveal Falco with his bazooka armed and aiming at the Black Knight.
Falco: “Try this power on!”
Falco fired the bazooka which hit Black Knight in the stomach. This broke his armor and continued through to his body. As he dropped his sword, he crumpled over bleeding profusely from his torso. Marth raised his sword into the air.
Marth: “Victory is ours!”
The cheers of Marth’s army were heard miles away. The heroes left the Fire Valley and lead their army back to the castle. The atmosphere was exceedingly joyfull as the soldiers talked about the victory. Marth and the others were conversing also amongst themselves.
Lyn: “Very well done Falco.”
Falco: “Hey don’t give me all the credit. I just had a couple good ideas and some excellent equipment.”
Marth: “Well sorry to upset the happiness of your idea, but it’s not like your little deflecting magic attacks was entirely original.”
Falco: “Thanks for the approval there princess!”
The others began to laugh and pressed on, but Micaiah held back with Falco.
Micaiah: “I don’t know how to thank you enough, Falco. You helped us defeat our enemy and you even saved my life.”
Falco: “I told you before not to worry about it.”
Micaiah smiled at Falco and grasped hold of his hand. Together they walked hand in hand towards the castle.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Meanwhile back at the Fire Valley, the Captain of the Black Knight’s army had his men gathering the swords and supplies left on the battlefield, when a soldier appeared next to him.
Soldier: “Captain, our Leader appears to be clinging on to life by a thread, what should we do?”
Captain: “Get some men to carry him back to our camp. His overconfidence caused such a severe loss. I won’t give him the glory of dying on the battlefield.”
Soldier: “Yes sir! At least one good thing came from today.”
Captain: “And what would that be soldier?”
Soldier: “The thief party you sent to their castle has returned with some riches, they were completely undetected. They say there is a box with an orb inside it that they stole. Sir, it may be the Fire Emblem”
Captain: “Well then what are we waiting for! TROOPS, MOVE OUT!”
Mewtwo was sitting in the same place he had been for the past few hours. His eyes closed focusing on the orbs that had entered their galaxy.
