Chapter 14: The Bobomb Field
As Mario and the rest of his party headed towards Wario’s Castle, their journey found them in the middle of Wario’s Woods. It was a thick grove of trees, bushes and small scurrying creatures. The foliage was so thick that darkness covered a majority of the area. Rumors of boo activity drove outsiders away from this area of the Mushroom Kingdom. Despite the dangers, the group was determined to get to Wario’s Castle to retrieve the metal boxes he and Waluigi had stolen from Peach Castle. Suddenly, amidst the rustling leaves, a loud squishing sound rang out followed by a yell and what sounded like a rock hitting the earth. They turned round to see Luigi flat on his back.
Luigi: “Mama mia! If I step in one more rotten apple in this forsaken forest of hell, I’ll go crazy!”
Mario: “It’s not much further I think…..Kamek, can you see anything up there.”
Kamek: “Yeah…I’m seeing sunlight ahead.”
Bowser: “About d**n time! This place gives me the creeps. Stupid plants..”
They began to pick up the pace to head towards the light they could see in the distance. Luigi was muttering under his breath as he stepped around the rotten apples on the forest floor. Peach was sitting on a makeshift throne being carried by a small group of toads to avoid messing up her clothes. Bowser however was the most irate. His large shell kept getting stuck in tree limbs and bushes. As they approached closer to the light, a foul stench filled the air. It was a mixture of gunpowder and rotten Italian cooking. As they light grew closer the stench grew stronger. When Mario finally stepped out from the trees, the scene was worse than he had imagined. Wario’s Castle was dirty beyond all imagination, the moat surrounding the castle was a dark putrid green. A nearby patch of garlic was growing. Several of the plants were rotting in the earth. The most noticeable scene before them was the large bobomb field. The sheer size of it was breathtaking. Thousands of bobombs walked around the massive field leading to the drawbridge of the Castle.
Bowser: “Son of a……”
Bowser Jr. “ Come on Pops, this should be easy!”
Luigi: “Speak for yourself….how are we supposed to get across that thing, Mario?”
Mario: “The only way we can, quickly and carefully. Kamek, can you let Peach on your broom and you two fly across to the other side? This way we don’t have to worry about everyone?”
Kamek: “Sure thing, hop on, Princess.”
Peach mounted the broom; Mario watched as the two soared over the field and landed gently on the other side. Luigi looked around for an alternative route, when he was slapped in the face with a rotten garlic clove. Bowser Jr. roared with laughter as he pulled up his mask and transformed into Shadow Mario. He jumped into the air and began to jump and weave effortlessly between the bobombs. Mario and Bowser jumped down into the field. Luigi made a rude hand gesture towards Bowser Jr. as he wiped the garlic residue from his face and followed Bowser and his brother.
Luigi: “Mario….i have a bad feeling about this.”
Bowser: “Oh dry it up! I’m tired of hearing your whining.”
Mario: “Can it! BOTH OF YOU! We need full concentration, so we don’t accidentally set one of them off.”
Mario took one more look at the other side to see Bowser Jr. transforming back into himself as he stood beside Peach and Kamek. He took a deep breath before sprinting into the field. Luigi followed quickly after, and Bowser taking up the rear. Things were going good for the trio as they got one third across without any problems. Luigi had to quickly jump over a bobomb that was running his direction, and bowser slid on his shell to avoid a collision with another. Mario was starting to feel confident about their endeavor until he heard bowser scream out.
Bowser: “OH NO!!!”
Mario turned around to see Bowser sliding in a mud puddle straight towards a large group of bobombs.
Mario: “Luigi, RUN!”
Bowser collided with the bobombs which caused a large explosion. Bowser’s Body flew into the air and landed in front of Mario and Luigi. The explosion and Bowser’s crash to the ground caused an unbelievable chain reaction. Bobombs began running around like mad. Crashing into each other and exploding on contact. Luigi began to panic, but Mario took action. He grabbed Bowser’s and began to spin him around. He gathered up speed and let go at the right point to send him flying towards his son, Kamek and Peach. Luigi was still running around in a panic, barely escaping several explosions. Mario had to jump over a few bobombs and crouch to avoid head on collisions and explosions. He grabbed Luigi’s collar and began to drag him towards the other end of the field. They were approaching the bank where Peach stood when a large swarm of bobombs turned and began to run towards them. Mario slid to a stop, and tried to jump over them, but they collided with each other and exploded, sending Mario and Luigi flying. As they landed, Peach ran over to check on them. Mario stood up and looked around for Bowser. He was lying on his back several feet away.
Bowser Jr.: “Dad, speak to me Dad! Dad wake up!”
Mario ran over to check on Bowser. He was barely breathing, fearing the worst, Bowser Jr. began to scream into the air. Through a stroke of genius, Peach shouted out to Kamek.
Peach: “Kamek! Use the Professor’s potion on him!”
Kamek swopped in and dumped a large quantity of the position which revived the Toad at Peach’s Castle on Bowser’s body. Within seconds he began to stir, and suddenly he jumped to his feet and began to look around him scared.
Bowser: “Wha….where…what happened?”
Luigi: “You slid into a group of bobombs and nearly killed us.”
Bowser Jr.: “Mama thought quickly and had Kamek use that potion on you.”
Mario: “Mama?”
Bowser Jr.: “Whoops…sorry, old habit ya know?”
Mario: “Well….we got here…let’s head in and find those metal boxes.”
The group headed on across the drawbridge and on into the derelict castle, they were surprised to find no guards, no minions, no disturbances whatsoever. The only company they ran across as they searched through the floors of Wario’s Castle was a few mice that scurried away, and a rather large boo of whom they ran across accidentally and promptly fled from. Just as they were beginning to loose hope, they heard laughing in the distance. The laughing was in fact the high whining voice of Waluigi. They crept down a long hallway towards a pair of large doors. The laughing got louder as the approached. They could hear Wario talking amidst the laughter, but could not hear what he was saying. As Mario eased the door open, the entire gang began to peer in. The sight was not a pretty one. Waluigi was laying on a couch doubled over in laughter, as Wario was dancing on a table in his Wario Man costume.
Bowser Jr. “OH….MY…..LORD!”
Mario: “I have no clue what’s going on here, but I’m pretty sure I don’t want to know.”
At this point, Luigi kicked open the door and the entire crew dumped into the room. This disturbance ceased Waluigi’s laughter, and made Wario turn so fast he fell on his butt.
Luigi: “Surprise!”
Kamek: “We’ve come for what you stole, theifs!”
Wario: “You’ll never get those metal boxes back, we need them”
Bowser Jr. “Shut up, Mr. Undies”
Waluigi: “Don’t speak to him like that. Take this!”
Waluigi lit two bobombs and tossed them at the crowd. Mario began to shut the doors, but Bowser had seen enough. He stepped in front of them and began to spin. His tail struck the bobombs with the right amount of force that they bounced back toward the duo. The bobombs exploded on Wario and Waluigi on impact. They flew to the back of the room and slumped down on the floor. Bowser Jr and Luigi ran over to lift them on the floor and restrain them. Kamek flew in front of them with his scepter held high ready to attack as Bowser, Mario and Peach approached.
Mario: “This is your one chance. Why did you steal the Metal Boxes, why?”
Waluigi: “And what if we don’t tell you?”
Bowser: “Then you have me to answer to, and I’m not exactly in a negotiating mood anymore. All I have to do is say the word, and I can make your life full of pain.”
Bowser Jr.: “Yeah, one false move and I’ll shove this paintbrush right up your…”
Wario: “OK, OK, I’ll talk. A few weeks ago, Waluigi and I were harvesting our bobomb field. We worked all day long and were tired. We decided to take a dip in the lake over there. All of a sudden, an enormous blooper floated to the top of the water. We started to run, but the blooper began to speak to us. It asked if we planted the golden turnips in the underwater cave because he wished to thank whoever did. Of course we hadn’t, but we were interested. He explained that there were golden turnips growing in an underwater cave. He had eaten several of them and grew incredibly powerful. The more we thought about it, the more we wanted these turnips. Perhaps we could plant them with our bobombs and have the ultimate bombs. We thought of how we could retrieve them, and remembered that metal boxes, make you able to walk underwater. So we decided to take the Metal Boxes and get these turnips for ourself. We’ve tried a couple of times, but the weight of the metal boxes kept us from swimming into the cave.”
Bowser: “If you’re talking about the underwater cave on the northern end of the lake, My koopas have already harvested that. We just simply blew a hole in the earth till we reached it.”
Waluigi: “You idiot…that’s what I told you we should have done. The Metal Boxes are in that store room over there. See…you should listen to me occasionally Wario.”
Luigi released Wario due to laughter as the disgruntled brothers began to re-consider their position.
Mario: “All this work for nothing. Bowser, you heard him, your metal boxes are in that storage room over there.”
Bowser walked over and head butted the door open. Inside were several metal boxes in a wooden kart. He grabbed the rope and began to pull it out of the storage room.
Bowser: “OK, as promised, I’ll take you to my Castle and show you what we’ve been doing with these turnips. They may come in more useful that we originally thought. Leave these two imbeciles here to rot in their own stupidity. Filthy waste of time”
The group began to file out of Wario’s Castle. Bowser was in the lead pulling the kart, with Bowser Jr. by his side. Mario, Peach and Luigi were talking amongst themselves as Kamek flew overhead. Wario suddenly came running out of his castle.
Wario: “Hey guys, wait up!”
Peach: “You’ve caused enough trouble here, Wario. Just leave us alone.”
Wario: “I want to make up for it…..Here; I’ll hook up my hog to the kart and pull it and you guys on to Bowser’s Castle.”
At this point, their exhaustion from the bobomb field had gotten the best of them. They reluctantly accepted Wario’s offer and within minutes were riding in the kart along with Waluigi. As they sped across the mushroom kingdom, towards Bowser’s Castle, they came across an odd group running across the fields. It was Yoshi, Kirby, Metaknight, Slippy, and King Dedede. Mario motioned for Wario to stop. When he had done so, Mario jumped out and ran towards Yoshi.
Mario: “Yoshi! Over here!”
Yoshi: “Mario! Thank goodness, we’ve been looking for you.”
Mario: “Kirby?? What are you doing here?”
MK: “Mario, there’s no time for small talk, we’re in trouble. Our planet has been destroyed, and I fear others will be as well.”
Mario: “Wait what??”
Kirby: “We’ll tell you as we ride on to the castle.”
Mario: “Well, we’re actually not going to Peach Castle, we’re going to Bowser’s Castle…I know it sounds insane, but there’s a good reason.”
King Dedede: “Well can we stop standing around…I’m ready to sit for a bit.”
They walked over to the kart and jumped in. Slippy, Metaknight, and Kirby related the story of The Destroyer, Geno, and Ridley to Mario. He in turn related the happenings on his planet as they sped off towards Koopa Territory. The longer he drove, the more Wario kept thinking about what Bowser could have done with the turnips. Perhaps Waluigi’s plan to aid them would actually help them achieve their goal. Maybe…..just maybe….

Well guys...that's it' for chapter 14......it's not the best chapter i've ever written...but i'm surprised it lasted so long....i was gonna do more with it....but it turned out longer...oh well....hope you like it
