Chapter 16: Strange Creatures across Hyrule
Evening was settling on the land of Termina as the young Link examined the three masks in his possession. Tatl the fairy whizzed about his head as he examined the three.
Tatl: “Hey, those masks have come in handy haven’t they?”
ML: “Yeah, they sure have, tatl. Who would have believed that I could take the form of a Deku, a Goron, and a Zora at will.”
Link put the masks away and pulled out his sword. He began to run across Termina field, but not finding the normal slew of monsters. As he approached Clock Town, he began to look suspiciously around at the town. No one was bustling about the town; there were no enemies to be seen. Tatl then noticed something even more strange.
Tatl: “Link, look above. The moon is no longer crashing down upon us.”
ML: “What the? But the Skull Kid, he sent the moon down to destroy us…why isn’t it here now?”
They stood in a deep ponder staring at the sky till a noise from behind the clock tower alerted their attention. Link held his sword and shield high as he silently walked over towards the back wall of the Clock Tower. He and Tatl peered around the corner to find the Skull Kid cowering in a corner with Tael flying around him. Confused by this sight, link inched over towards the clearly frightened Skull Kid. Tael who was fluttering nervously around the Majora’s Mask on Skull Kid’s head till he noticed the pair behind him.
Tael: “Whoever you are you can just……TATL!!”
Tatl: “Tael! We finally caught up with you.”
ML: “What happened here? Where’s the moon gone?”
Tael: “I’m not really sure, One second he was there, then a dark orb of some sort swallowed him up…his departure sent the moon back to it’s original position. I searched throughout the surrounding areas for near three hours then came back here to find Poor Skull Kid having just appeared from wherever, clearly terrified.”
SK: “Horrible….things……evil….things.”
Tatl: “What is it skull kid? What are you trying to tell us?”
SK: “Evil…..destroyed barriers…..killing us all.”
Skull Kid looked into Link’s obviously confused face, but just as he was about to say something, a section of the air beside him suddenly turned black. The sight had never been seen in Termina before. Skull Kid cowered further as Link stared into the hole in space. Then suddenly, Ganondorf fell out of the hole and onto the ground. Skull Kid let out a scream of terror as Ganondorf looked up at the clock tower.
Ganondorf: “Where……this is not..…”
Skull Kid: “no no no no bad bad things bad bad things”
Link examined the stranger to find a large wound in his abdomen. Blood flowing onto the stone laid ground, Ganondorf’s strength gave away as he lay motionless on the floor, barely breathing.
Tatl: “Quick link, play the Song of Healing! It might save this stranger and we can get some answers.”
Before Tatl had finished her sentence, Link had the ocarina to his mouth and began to play. A soothing melody filled the air as fairies from surrounding area congregated around the unconscious Ganondorf. As they flew into his body, the triforce on his hand began to glow. Link finished playing the tune, and Ganondorf gasped back into reality. Dazed and extremely confused, he reached for his stomach to feel the wound from Zankor’s blade. His stomach was whole once more, and his strength was returning to him. He slowly stood up and swaggered over to the wall to steady himself.
Ganondorf: “What is the wretched place? This is not my castle.”
ML: “This is the land of Termina, you’ve appeared in Clock Town. Who are you, where have you come from.”
Ganondorf: ‘YOU….you are very familiar….very much like him.”
Tatl: “What is he talking about?”
Tael: “No clue”
Ganondorf: “I am Ganondorf, I am from the land of Hyrule, I was invited to a meeting in the stars with a demonic beast of an individual. Two of my comrades fell in battle. The Skull Kid escaped. I used the power of Twilight to escape myself, and thanks to your actions I have been healed. It is not in my nature to be grateful, but due to the events that have recently transpired, I feel an allegiance between heroes and villains will be necessary. I have at my command some powerful beings, and whilst I was in transport from Twilight, I overheard talks of strange creatures abroad…something about the barriers between our regions being destroyed. This must be the reason why I appeared here rather than in my castle. The physical barriers must have changed.”
ML: “Woah, wait…barriers? How come none of us have ever known of these barriers?”
Ganondorf: “Well, whilst I was in exile in Twilight, I heard the legends of their race. According to legend, there were great barriers set in place around the four regions of hyrule. Each region to be oblivious to the other’s existence. Outsiders can see these barriers, but denizens of this world cannot. While I was at this meeting, I met two other Ganondorfs, and the Skull Kid. Skull Kid is from here, and the other two must be from the other reigions. There will be mass chaos amongst the worlds as strange beasts appear in strange lands now that the barriers have been broken.”
Tael: “So what do you think we should do?”
ML: If there are other regions, I think we should warn them of what’s happening. If this demon already attacked Ganondorf, then who knows how quickly he could come here and try to destroy the rest of us. But where should we head?”
Ganondorf: “The Twilit legend calls my land greater hyrule, which leads me to believe that it is towards the north…I say we head north towards my home region.”
They strode out of the northern gate on their way towards the Twilit Hyrule. As they were crossing Termina Field, The Skull Kid came running up behind them in an attempt to not be left alone. Although they were against the idea, both Link and Ganondorf agreed to let him tag along. Neither spoke to the other as they made their way across the landscape. Tael flew over to Link’s ear and began to whisper to him.
Tatl: “You’re just going to follow this guy all around? You don’t even know him.”
Link: “Yeah, I’m curious in what he’s saying. All our normal enemies are missing and I want to know why, not to mention the state that the Skull Kid has been in. His story kind of adds up.”
Tatl: “But link, he said he was a villain, don’t you remember? He said heroes and villains should team up.”
Link: “I know, but just because I’m following along doesn’t mean that I trust him. I trust him about as much as I trust Twinmold.”
As link was finishing his sentence, an ear piercing screech was heard throughout the sky. Skull kid whipped around looking in all directions as link pulled out his sword. Ganondorf stood still scanning the area for the source of this noise. Link walked up to stand beside ganondorf as a second scream roared through the sky. It didn’t take long to figure out what this noise was as an enormous bird flew over the nearby forest. The Helmeroc King observed his strange surroundings and locked his eye upon Ganondorf and Link.
In his frightened state, the Helmeroc King decided they were a serious thread, he swooped down with his massive beat towards them. They both rolled out of the way barely missing both his beak and claws. The Bird Landed and began pecking round the field in an attempt to take down the duo. Link reached behind his back and pulled out a Deku Mask. His screams filled the night as the small boy transformed into the form of the Deku. He began shooting bubble blasts at the birds eyes from a distance. While Deku Link was keeping the Helmeroc Kings’ attention, Ganondorf had run over towards the bird and laid a warlock punch straight to the stomach. The unexpected blow knocked back the bird’s body a few feet, which resulted in a crash to the ground. Seeing his opportunity, Deku Link pulled out his Goron Mask and painfully changed into the shape of a Goron. He rolled into a ball till spikes came out of his skin. The bird snapped out of it’s daze Goron Link’s rolling attack hit him in the face. Now filled with rage, the Helmeroc King took to the air and swooped down catching ganondorf in his claw. Ganondorf struggled to get out of his grasp, but the bird tightened his talons around ganondorf more securely. The Helmeroc King lowered his altitude and began to drag Ganondorf’s body across the ground while chasing after Goron Link. As they approached a hill, The Skull Kid stood firm at the top. This sudden appearance shocked the Helmerock king into letting to of Ganondorf. Suddenly, Skull Kid began to shake his head and use the power of Majora’s Mask to lay hypnosis upon the bird. As the bird stood mesmerized, Goron Link took off his mask and transformed back to human form. Ganondorf stood up and laid another warlock punch to the bird. As the bird landed a few feet away, Link jumped into the air and slammed his sword straight into the heart of the Helmeroc King. With one last screech, the bird lay motionless.
Ganondorf: “It has already begun. We must hurry to Greater Hyrule before other beasts ravage the lands.”
The Three companions and the fairies began to run north towards the Hyrule infused in Twilight. Hyrule was in terrible danger, and they were not sure if they could do anything to stop it, but they would try.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As the three glowing orbs flew through the rip in space and time, they separated towards different worlds. One was speeding across the galaxy towards Hyrule. The area around it began to burn as it entered the atmosphere and headed for the center of Hyrule. Closer and closer it fell. The scene around it was that of a Great Ocean littered with the occasional island. The orb broke open upon contact with the ocean’s surface. The impact sent its contents shooting towards the ocean’s floor. Lower and lower it sank, not able to breathe, not able to swim. It was about to drown, when a metallic claw closed around it and pulled it back to the surface. Trapped within the metal claw, it’s inhabitant began coughing for air as the water flowed from the hinges. The Claw belonged to a small red wooden ship with the face similar to that of a lion and a dragon. A larger wooden ship could be seen floating beside it. The claw was lifted to the deck of the larger ship and it’s contents were expelled from it.
Lying on the ship’s deck completely drenched was the body of a creature the Great Sea had never seen before. It was a blue hedgehog. He stood up and was immediately met by a group of pirates. They were closing in on him with chains and ropes.
Sonic: “Woah, this isn’t Green Hill…..Time to split!”
Sonic began to run around the deck of the ship at top speed. The pirates attempted to toss things at him and tackle him, but the blue hedgehog was just too fast for any of them to capture. He could not jump off the ship for it was in the middle of the ocean. He jumped up to a ledge above the sailors and began to laugh at them.
Sonic: “Oh man, you guys are too much. You’re just too slow!”
As soon as he finished his statement, a rope trap closed around him and lifted him into the air. He looked around to see a small girl and a young boy in green clothes.
Tetra: “Apparently you aren’t too fast for me! My name is Tetra, who are you?”
Sonic: “Hey, let me outta here! I’m Sonic. I gotta go and beat Dr. Eggman before he destroys the world.”
Link: “Egg…man? What’s he talking about?”
Tetra: “I have no clue what this babble is. He must be one of the other strange creatures that have been appearing here. Men, take him below with the others.”
Sonic continued to struggle against the ropes, with no success. Several of Tetra’s pirates grabbed the ropes and dragged Sonic below the deck. Link turned to Tetra.
Link: “You sure he’s one of the others? The other things we’ve been seeing around here look similar to creatures we already know, but this Sonic is completely different.”
Tetra: “I’m not entirely sure…I say we talk to him later. Glad the King of Red Lions stuck around to help us with all these strangers.”
Sonic was tossed into a cell in the brig of the ship. He began to hit the bars in an attempt to plead his case. He had no clue where he was or why he was here. Some portal just opened up and grabbed him on his way to beat Dr. Eggman and Metal Sonic. Once he realized his pleads were in vain, he sat down and began to look around him. The surrounding cells were filled with all manner of creatures and individuals. The cell immediately beside him was filled with a large pig like creature brandishing a club. Across from him was a small group of creatures looking like gelatin cups, and diagonally from him was a tall fish-like creature with a triton.
An hour later, Sonic was pacing his cell when a strange black sphere appeared on the ceiling of the hallway between cells. The creatures around began to yell amongst themselves. Then suddenly, a small imp riding a wolf appeared from the hole. The wolf began to sniff around the floor as the imp floated around examining cages.
Midna: “Hmm…just as they described, link.”
Midna kept flying around the cells as Wolf Link walked up to Sonic’s Cell. He sniffed the air and gave a confused look. He barked into the air and Midna came over immediately.
Midna: “Well hello….i don’t think I’ve ever seen a creature like you before.”
Sonic: “Um…Hi. Who are you?”
Midna: “My name is Midna, I’m the princess of Twilight. I came here through my twilit powers because there were rumors in our land of a ship in the great sea capturing a few Zoras. Apparently the old legend is true….there are barriers between different Hylian regions….well…there WERE barriers I should say.”
Sonic barely understood anything that came out of Midna’s mouth, but decided not to press the issue. He began to ask for help, when Tetra and Link burst down the stairs and came to a halt at the sight of Midna and Wolf Link.
Midna: “Well well….let me guess Link and Zelda.”
Tetra: “What the…how do…WHO ARE YOU?”
Midna: “Oh boy, there’s a lot to explain here…”

Not sure about this one....what do you think?
Evening was settling on the land of Termina as the young Link examined the three masks in his possession. Tatl the fairy whizzed about his head as he examined the three.
