(Chapter 18: War)
The war for Planet Nintendo had begun. The forces from Zero’s empire, with the warriors of darkness, and over 9000 polygons and counting, seized the city. At the front of the army was Zero, riding in a white bowl with a clown face on it, and a green rim on the top. On the bottom was a propeller to keep it afloat. Behind him were Ganondorf and Black Shadow. Behind them were Pokey, Dark Meta Knight and Sword Knight. Mewtwo and Marx were floating beside Zero on respective sides. The alternate-reality machine was in Mewtwo’s tow, floating behind him. Ridley, however, was nowhere to be seen.
Despite the fact that they were greatly outnumbered, The Smashers stood their ground. Mario stood at the front of the group of Smashers, with Link at his side. Red, Gold, and Silver’s Pokemon were all released. Ike brandished his sword, with the bronze-colored blade on his shoulder. Meta Knight’s eyes were, instead of their normal yellow color, red. Donkey Kong pounded his fists together. Captain Falcon did his traditional “Show me your moves!” pose, and flicked his fingers off of his helmet in Black Shadow’s direction, taunting him.
From above, a faint whistling sound could be heard, which grew louder and louder. As it came closer, the sound became more recognizable to The Smashers, Meta Knight included.
It was the sound of a Warpstar.
Yes, it was indeed a Warpstar, with a familiar pink puffball riding it. Kirby leapt off and landed beside Meta Knight, anticipation glowing in his eyes. The Warpstar flew off in the distance and faded out of view.
Zero stood in the Koopa Clown Car, with Marth’s sword at his side. His appearance was...different. His black shirt was missing, exposing his chest with a white tuft of hair similar to Shadow’s. His blue pants had a white stripe going on the side. The grey locks around his wrists and ankles remained, as did his white gloves and black boots. He had two golden shoulder pads instead of those which resembled Meta Knight’s, and a blue, twin-tailed cape coming from it, with yellow lining. He snickered at the site of The Smasher’s pitiful army.
“This is the best you can do?” He taunted, arms crossed. Even The Smashers couldn’t deny that their army was seriously lacking. “Do you really think that THIS is going to help you? This pathetic excuse for an army?”
Kirby let out an angry “Poyo!” at Zero’s remark.
“Our army may not be as big as yours,” Mario replied, “But we will not back down!”
Zero raised an eye. “Oh? Maybe this will make you reconsider.”
Zero held out his clenched fist, holding the shimmering Griseous Orb by its chain.
“What is that?” Link questioned.
“The Griseous Orb,” Gold calmly replied. “It’s a rare item from the ancient past, but I don’t know what it does.”
“You will find out soon enough, boy,” Zero responded.
There was a long silence. Nobody spoke after this. Then, Zero unsheathed Marth’s sword, pointed it at The Smashers, and yelled, “Attack!”
Without a moment’s hesitation, both sides rushed forward to engage in what would be Planet Nintendo’s greatest battle.
Captain Falcon threw his fist forward while running as fast as he could, uppercutting Black Shadow a fair bit. But the black leotard-wearing man drop-kicked Falcon into the ground when he saw the chance.
Meta Knight deployed his wings and flew into the fray and engaged Sword Knight and Dark Meta Knight in an epic sword match. Kirby, using his stomach as his brain, inhaled Sword and spit him back out, and the pink marshmallow had a green cap and a sword.
Link brought his sword down on Ganondorf’s wrist, but the mass power the King of Darkness possessed allowed him to take no damage from the attack and merely tossed Link aside. Ganondorf brandished his sword, and charged for the defender of Hyrule.
Pokey’s spider mech heaved its way towards Ness and Lucas, the latter shaking viciously out of fear.
“So, losers, ready to die?” Pokey cawed.
“Never!” Ness said defiantly. Lucas didn’t say a word. He was too frightened.
“If only your parents could see you now,” Pokey said to Lucas. “What a coward you are...they’d be disappointed. So very, very disappointed.”
Within seconds of that statement, Lucas felt himself become consumed by an immeasurable amount of rage. He clenched his hands into fists, and bared his teeth. He let out a long string of “Grr’s” before finally yelling, as loud as his little voice would allow him too...
“PK FREEZE!!!!”
From what could be assumed to be the center of his body, Lucas unleashed a large icy diamond, directly at Pokey, which collided with the protective case of his mech. Pokey stepped backwards, taking several steps from the blow. He noticed a small, almost microscopic, crack on the protective case.
“Why you little...” Pokey sneered. Lucas was fired up; there was nothing to stop him from unleashing all the hate he had against Pokey this time.
Black Shadow threw his meaty fist forward and punched Captain Falcon in the jaw; a small speckle of blood flew out of his mouth. Falcon stumbled around, before finally retaliating with kick to Black Shadow’s side, knocking his foe over. Captain Falcon put his right foot on Black Shadow’s back, held up his arms and said “I am the champion, my friiieends!”
Of course, one small kick to the side wasn’t going to keep Black Shadow down. He grabbed Falcon’s leg and twisted him over onto his chest, his face planting into the ground.
Mario weaseled his way around, looking for a way to get to Zero, but could not seem to find anyway to reach him. Then, he heard a faint whisper amongst the commotion of the war.
”Psst, Mario!”
He looked over, and saw Luigi and Samus standing near a building, and ran over to them to see what was up.
“Check it out, this will take you to the roof; and look where Zero is,” Samus said.
Mario looked up the building, and sure enough, Zero was beside the building, looking over the battle that was going on.
“C’mon, let’s go,” Luigi said, out of character.
The trio ran into the building which turned out to be nothing but a giant stairway. Soon after, a horde of Polygons seized the building and charged after them. Mario was at the front, with Luigi behind him, and Samus at the back. She turned and fired a fully-charged energy shot into the horde, obliterating a few of them, but some remained.
“Need some help?” Mario asked.
“I’m fine!” She replied, with Luigi turning back to aid her.
“You go on ahead! Save Planet Nintendo!” Samus replied.
Mario hesitated.
“GO!!” She barked.
Mario hesitated yet again, but soon took off, running through the stairway as fast as he could. But he was soon stopped by a polygon which was orange in color, and in the shape of one of his most formidable opponents. Mario had never seen this Polygon before, and little did he know it was the only one of its kind.
Zero had created a Bowser Polygon, saved specifically for this event.
Meta Knight’s sword clashed with his dark counterpart’s as they engaged each other in a powerful duel. Sparks emitted every time their swords collided, and they both seemed to know what their opponent was going to do next. Kirby, however, was being outmaneuvered by Sword Knight, due to inexperience
Pokey marched towards Ness and Lucas, the latter still steaming and angered from Pokey’s taunt. Ness leapt into the air and swiped his hand from his right side to his left, exclaiming “PK Fire!” and shot a small fireball at Pokey, who brushed it off. After this, Ness pulled out his baseball bat and slammed it on the protective casing. Then, doing what seemed impossible, Pokey wrapped one if the spider mech’s arms around Ness, binding him in a powerful grip.
Mario leapt over Bowser’s polygon and kicked it in the back of its shell, sending it fumbling down the stairs. But when it hit the bottom stair, it landed perfectly on its feet. It pulled itself into its shell and performed the Spinning Fortress up the stairs, hitting Mario and knocking him to the side. Bowser faced the plumber and went to do a ground pound—only to miss and destroy the Polygons that Samus was fighting off—and itself, in the process.
“That was...disappointing,” Mario said.
Without a moment’s hesitation, Samus and Luigi bolted up the staircase to join Mario. They finally arrived at the top of the building, except Zero didn’t seem to notice.
Then, in the distance, they saw a giant purple dragon heading towards them. Its ribcage was clearly visible and its piercing yellow eyes flashed in the distance.
Ridley had finally made its entrance. Zero smiled.
“Mewtwo! Prepare to fire the cannon!” Zero ordered.
Mewtwo nodded and floated off in the distance with the machine and set it down. Just as he prepared to fire, he was suddenly attacked with a black boomerang. He looked around, and saw Darkrai floating in front of him.
“Fool, you really think you can stop Zero’s grand scheme?” Mewtwo bellowed.
Darkrai replied, “I don’t think. I know.”
“When I’m finished with you, you won’t be able to think.”
Darkrai snickered at the poorly written line, but then remembered the author is an idiot and was getting too caught up in the moment.
Link fired an arrow at Ganondorf who batted it away with his sword. He then brought his heavy sword down on Link, who blocked it with his shield and rolled out of the way. Ganondorf then struck out and hit link in the side with the flat end of his sword, knocking Link onto his chest. Ganondorf rolled him over, and aimed his sword at the boy’s throat.
“Ready to die, boy?”
On the rooftop, Mario, Luigi, and Samus watched as Ridley entered Corneria City, and immediately began attacking everything in sight. From buildings to street lights, from cars to even the ground, Ridley benevolently destroyed whatever it felt like. It was then that Zero noticed the trio was behind him.
“Ah, Mario. Have you finally decided to surrender?”
“Never!” Mario snapped.
Zero’s eyes flashed with disgust. “You still fail to realize what I’m capable of. You think that I’m just another fighter like you, yet you seem to have forgotten that I can use every attack The Smashers can use. And, there is something else that this world contains, something even more powerful than I. Perhaps unleashing it unto this world would cause you to back down?”
“We defeated Giga Bow—”
“This is even more powerful than Giga Bowser. I’m sure you’re aware of how powerful a Gyarados is when it’s angered, correct? Imagine that multiplied by ten. This is not like what happened when you fought Metal Sonic. This is much worse. Not only is it far more powerful than an enraged Gyarados and Giga Bowser combined, but it is from a parallel dimension. Had you taken that into account?”
Mario didn’t say a word.
Zero grunted and floated off into the distance in the Koopa Clown Car, and Ridley approached them, letting out a loud, deafening shriek.
“Mario...” Samus said. “Go.”
This time, Mario didn’t hesitate. Ridley was Samus’ foe. But she didn’t seem to say anything to Luigi. Mario leapt across the rooftop and onto another, and took a moment to survey the war taking place in the streets. He saw Falcon and Black Shadow in an intense fistfight. He saw Meta Knight, Dark Meta Knight, Kirby, and Sword Knight all in a swordfight. He watched as Ness (now free from his grip) and Lucas threw numerous PK attacks at Pokey. It was terrible. Not only that, but everyone seemed to be in a tangle with a couple polygons as well.
He leapt across the final rooftop and could finally reach Zero, who didn’t seem to notice that Mario had caught up with him. He held the Griseous Orb in his palm, eyeing it.
“Soon, my friend...soon you will be awakened.”
