(Chapter 16: Sonic Attacks)
The sun slowly rose the following morning after the storm. Meta Knight was standing on a chair, cloaked in his cape, asleep, until a beam of light hit him in the face. Slowly he opened his eyes and looked around the room. Pikachu was asleep, as was Ike. The time was 8:43 AM. Ike soon awoke and walked over to the coffee machine to pour himself a cup.
“Morning, Meta,” he said.
“Morning.”
The floor beneath them rattled for a few seconds before settling down. Pikachu woke up. Ike and Meta Knight both had puzzled looks on their faces, wondering what just happened and why. Suddenly, Luigi burst into the room, screaming frantically.
“EEEEEEAAAAAAARTHQUAAAAAAAAAAKE!”
Pikachu hopped up onto the windowsill and looked outside. Nobody seemed to be freaking out outside.
“I don’t think so. Everyone outside looks perfectly fine,” the mouse said.
“But...then where did that shake come from?” Ike wondered aloud.
Out of nowhere, two police cars parked in front of the hotel. Two policemen wearing blue uniforms stepped out of the cars. An alarm went off inside the hotel.
“Agh!” Pikachu yelped. “What is that?!”
“It’s an evacuation alarm. We have to go,” Meta Knight replied.
The three walked out of their hotel and were joined by the rest of The Smashers. They all headed outside as the police watched. One of them turned and faced the crowd.
“Everyone, a bomb was planted in the hotel and has been set off. For your safety, we have evacuated you outside. We believe the detonator is inside somewhere.”
Sure enough, he was. The blue hedgehog Sonic was inside an elevator with a new jacket. This one he had zipped up. Beside him was Tails, who had a mix of sadness, regret, and disgust across his face.
“Sonic...why? Why are you doing this?” The young fox begged to know.
“Because this world needs a better classic criminal,” was all that Sonic replied with. “Oh, and thanks for creating these bombs for me.”
The sad thing is, Tails didn’t do it willingly. Sonic forced him to do it and made sure Tails didn’t try anything, such as purposely making duds. He felt sick to his stomach and wanted to get away from Sonic as quickly as possible. Finally, the elevator door opened, and a white glove punched Sonic square in the face. Sonic fell onto his back. There, in front of him, was Shadow the Hedgehog and the Pokemon trainer Silver. While Sonic was down, Tails bolted out of the elevator and hid behind Silver.
“So, Sonic, this is what you’ve been reduced to? Saving everyone’s sorry asses time and again getting too boring for you?”
“Well, well, look who it is...and I don’t think I’ve bet you before,” Sonic said, pointing to Silver.
“Go, now,” Silver whispered to Tails who blazed off. Sonic went to chase after him, but Silver grabbed his arm. Sonic broke free and wrapped his arm around Silver’s neck, pointing his gun at his head. Shadow quickly pulled out a gun of his own and pointed it at Sonic. A standoff was about to ensue.
“Pop quiz, hotshot,” Sonic said to Shadow. “A lunatic hedgehog with a hostage has enough dynamite strapped to his chest to blow a building in half. What do you do?”
Silver looked at Shadow and whispered, “Shoot the hostage.”
“Quiet, Silver,” Shadow retorted.
“Hey, we got all the balls in the world right here, man! Tell me, boy, have you ever wondered what it would be like to have your body suddenly be consumed in a fiery explosion?”
“F*ck you,” Silver grunted.
“Aw, we’ve gone from ‘I collect innocent creatures to fight against the forces of evil and to save my planet’ to ‘f*ck you’?”
Sonic started walking away backwards, still holding onto Silver, keeping his eye on Shadow as the black hedgehog came after him.
“Give it up, you have nowhere to go!” Shadow yelled.
“Shoot the hostage,” Silver whispered.
Shadow hesitated, but finally did so and shot Silver in the leg. The attack caused Sonic to temporarily lose focus on what he was doing, and let Silver go. The young trainer fell to the ground, smiling at Shadow. Sonic looked at both of them in disbelief, before finally heading out the door, laughing like a lunatic.
“Hahahahahaha!”
Shadow went after Sonic, but there was another explosion, which blew the door off its hinges and created some debris. Smoke flew down the hall but it vanished after a few seconds. Shadow went outside to see if Sonic was around. Sure enough, Sonic was climbing a ladder onto the roof of the hotel. He bolted across as a black helicopter being piloted by Black Shadow (yeah, just try and read that without thinking “wait what?”) flew over the hotel. Sonic ran to the edge of the hotel and in one bounding leap managed to grab the landing gear of the copter. Suddenly, two green vines grabbed the landing gear. The vines in question were shot by Roserade, the same one Silver was trying to catch.
“Ah, nice trick.”
Sonic shot at the vines and snapped them, causing Roserade to retract them. Sonic pulled himself into the helicopter and people watched as it left the scene.
“Oh yeah, one last thing.”
Sonic pulled out a detonator and pressed a blue button on it. From the center of the hotel occurred an explosion. Cracks shot up and down the hotel, with windows shattering. The hotel finally collapsed, created a thick cloud of dust as people started coughing like mad.
“Did anybody die?” Black Shadow asked Sonic.
“Hell if I know. I hope I at least injured someone.”
