I vote for Metallica, mainly because I grew up listening to them, they are my all time favorite band.
Also, they created Enter Sandman, that gives them some serious points.

I could say that a few other bands are better *cough cough* Aerosmith, Van Halen, Foo Fighters *cough cough*
But both bands are great in their own ways, but as of now I listen to more Metallica then Avenged Sevenfold

A7X hasnt been out as long as Metallica. A7X is my style of music DEAL Big Boss Synyster Gates can play the guitar way bettr than HAmmett Can Metallica do a Cover of the Epic song Walk? No? A7X can Metallica lost a crap load of fans with St.Anger A7X gotz a crap load of fans from City of Evil A7X is a younger band and within a few years WILL be up with the Legends of Rock Metallica has been around longer, which gives them more albums......That's it. First off, the dude was trying to learn a new riff, who knows how long the over dude has been playing that solo.
Norocker is invincible, they all have they're bad days. I know I shouldn't be talking becasue the thing of guitar I can play is "Under Pressure's" bass guitar.

Metallica hands down.
They've been around longer, their songs pretty much DEFINE heavy metal, and their guitar solos will melt your faces!

As of now Metallica's better, but who knows in a few years.
Look at Offspring, they got a bunch of killer songs they're coming out with now. Beastie Boys are more popular now then they were back when they started. Same with Black Sabbath.

They both really are great BUT i'll have to go for A7X.
I vote for them, not because i like them better, as far as the music goes, i like them the same. but because Metallica has a few things that irritate me.
-They hate when people download music. I LOVE to download music, it is the best way to hear everything and et expos3ed to new things. Metallica already has like millions of dollars anyway, do they really care if a few more people get to hear their music without paying them to do so?
-They're sellouts. From black album on, they've sold out completley.
