If you haven't heard, Obama has been trying to repeal the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" AKA DADT. What is DADT you ask? Good questio! For those who don't what DADT is it is a legislative that basically states that gay folks cannot be open about their sexuality while in the military. If it suspected that a person is gay, then they would do an investigation on said person and he/she would be discharged from service (whether it's a dishonourable or honourable discharge, I don't know).
I think the policy is overall stupid. Why should it matter if a person is gay or not, if they are fighting for our sakes then their sexuality should not matter. Gosh, gotta love America. <3
- Oh yeah, discuss your feelings about this. kthxbai.

Funny that the military is willing to throw out perfectly willing people that want to serve our country just because they're gay. In the current day and age where people avoid joining the military, this just seems like an oxymoron if you ask me. Not that also not allowing people with arm tatoo's of their family's name in Japanesse are turned down by the air force for that very reason where they'll be wearing a uniform overtop of it and no one will ever see it.
It's sad that our military has some of these regulations. I think that regardless of their sexual intrest, appearance (to a degree), gender, or physical makeup should be factors when accepting citizens into the military. I mean, would you rather have a gay person who's willing to fight and die for his country or some other guy who got pulled into it and doesn't want to be there? The answer is clear. Unfortunately I don't see this getting fixed anytime soon; Congress is in standstill and nothing is getting down, it needs to get fixed soon.

Our military has function just fine for over 200 years. We kick ass and take names. i dont know why Obama's bringing this up now. I mean our military operates just fine under its policies now. That doesn't justify our armed forces homophobic attitude.
you know maybe that policy is there for a reason because you can't have lovers in your barracks its a distraction and you cant have emotional attachment with a fellow soldier. that can possibly cause a bteak down in fighting efficiency.
our military has very high standards for a reason its what keeps our boys safe and what makes us strong. If it isn't broken dont try to fix it.

Also, what you stated in your last paragraph is similar to what a solider posted from another website I was on. This has to be one of the stupidest things I read in my life...Are you kidding me? First off, "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" has nothing to do with high standards, it has to do with our nation being fulled with a bunch of homophobic bigots. Its offensive to suggest that gay people wanna f**k anything in their sight. Is this the kind of nonsense they teach in school? Gay people are humans too. They also care for this homophobic nation, as well. If they want to fight and protect those they love, then let them.

Maybe if they were as stupid as certain persons on the internet... Turning away able bodied men who wish to fight for their nation because of sexual orientation is bigoted and idiotic. The system is broken, numbnuts.

If it isn't broken dont try to fix it. I'm sorry dude, but what? Seriously, what? This doesn't have anything to do with how well the military functions. Your sexual intrest wouldn't affect you completing your training or how well you complete it to a significant degree at all. The only way it could be effective was if you had special needs, which you shouldn't even be in the military in the first place for obvious reasons. It's not like a gay guy's going to run over to his buddy in the middle of a firefight and say "Hey, we're gonna die, wanna have sex?" There's no chance of that happening at all. You don't think there are emotional attatchments on the battlefield? A guy named Kirby King who's part of his forum lost half of his squad in an attack and his childhood friend died, you didn't think the emotional relationship was there? And if it was there, that would obviously make him want to fight harder to protect his friend. Soldier's fight and die for each other. The only people who have ever recieved the medal of honor have died in action, one of which died after his third attempt at rescuing a downed teamate. Here, an example: Say Johnny the football player fresh out of high school who's had sex with more girls than he can count (hint, he can't count past 20) and Oscar the gay guy apply for the army, get through the training, and are eventually deployed to Afghanistan. Now, it comes out that Oscar happens to be gay, but none of the squad says it to their commanding officer. When Johnny and Oscar are on patrol and get in their first firefight however, Johnny the football player, who had been flirting with the nurses up to this point, flees the scene in fright and gets shot, but isn't dead yet. Oscar manages to repel the insurgents and patches Johnny back up, thus saving his life. When they get back to camp, the commanding officer had heard about Oscar's sexual intrests. Because of this, instead of getting a humble welcome and probaly a medal, he gets discharged from the military, no medal, and no sort of military benefits whatsoever. Because he was gay. Does that sound right to you?

Did you use the name Oscar as a reference to the Office?

No Kevin, I was talking about Creed. Now if you excuse me I'm Michael Scott and I'm going to try to hang out with Ryan and be really awkward. And I thought you'd pick that up.

Its strange, if a person who wishes to sign on with the military, why shouldn't we accept them? I mean, what does leading an alternative lifestyle have to do with the will to defend the country or even battle capability? Besides the fact that means the such individuals would have to restrict or hide their true selves in order to serve... which makes no sense whatsoever. Also it reminded me of this... not to be offensive www.youtube.com/user/theonion?blend=1&ob=4#p/search/8/aotlEpmAFVQ

Just because kicking a dead horse is fun.
I'm assuming everyone here's seen 300, and knows who the Spartans were. You know, the most badass warrior society Western society has ever produced? The guys universally regarded as the axe crazy bastards that you absolutely did not want to mess with? Their entire military doctrine revolved around their soldiers being gay.
No seriously.
They figured that their warriors would fight about a bajillion times harder if they new their partner's life depended on victory. And since no one disagrees that the Spartans could kick the teeth out of anybody that looked cross eyed at them, I'd say it worked.
So, actually, we should get rid of Don't Ask Don't Tell and have an all homosexual army.

Don't ask don't tell was a policy started in the 1990's. So.. nowhere near 200 years..

Didn't say they didn't LOOK gay. I said they'd kick your teeth in. Also Real Spartans didn't go into battle in their undies.

Homosexuals don't led an "alternative style"; they cannot help it if they are born that way or attract to someone of the same-sex. Choosing to be a farmer or smoking is a lifestyle, being attracted to someone to either sex is human nature. P.S I have yet to watch 300.
