Well, Here we are again. The winds of change are blowing our way. Will we raise our sails and follow it, or shall we not?
For quite some time, I have been noticing how stagnant our site has become. Sure, several of us talk on the c-box, and the RP staff is hard at work in their little closet but other than that....we do nothing. We have nothing to offer, and our actually website (not the forum) is pretty much a joke. For those of you who didn't know we had an actual website.... it can be seen here smashfan.com/
Why are we stagnant? Why are we doing nothing? Well there are several reasons for that. Perhaps it's because the main RP hasn't started yet, perhaps it's because staff is lazy and haven't brought the games that i asked them to, perhaps it's just generalized laziness of everyone in general. Although these may be contributing factors, i feel there is one main reason for this.
We have an identity crisis.
We have lost our sense of identity somewhere down the road. Yes, we have become a "nintendo" site, but how many of them are out there? What do we provide that they can't get anywhere else? The short answer is NOTHING. We are the equivalent of plankton in an ocean of whales. How do we make ourselves more relevant? We need to
1. Make our site more specific. - It's easier to stand out if you are more specific because there are fewer other sites out there like us
2. Begin some form of activity - a site is useless unless we have something active to do
Without these two key ingredients, we will not get new members, and lack of new members means that only the old members can do things, and after old members do the same stuff for so long they get callous and lazy because they are tired of being the only ones around here doing anything.
So what do I believe we should do? Well... look at the top of your browser. What do you see? you should see the words "smashbrosfan" and that's what i'm suggesting. I think we should go back to being a Smash Bros site. There are a few out there still but there aren't TONS of smash bros sites around. This would mean that we wouldn't have to mess with the RP as it's still Smash Bros themed. We could keep our URL and it not be confusing, and we could have more activity.

The above links are to Brawl Hacking sites. Yes there are several hacking sites, but many of them are inactive, and there are multitudes of tools out there for us to learn how. We have several talented people (and several assbags but that's beside the point) I'm sure we could come up with our own ideas and hacks and could do a good job. I already know the Angel and Twilight are up for the challenge, and they are both good with images which is what the majority of hacking brawl is. KoD has also stepped up to the plate from the depths of the abyss to help with his music looping and video editing. I may try to get a couple of cool people from Kitty Corp to show up and help us in the beginning. I already have several ideas for characters and so on... so i think this should be fun and would DEFINITELY bring up activity. Now, although there will be an "official team" with tryouts to be on the team, we will in NO WAY discourage people from creating their own works and posting them here. We will have all the information on how to do things public. you DO NOT have to be on staff to be part of the team.
Another thing we need to do is to get the RP up and actually released but i will leave that to Kismet. Nuff said
TOURNEYS - We need tournaments... brawl, pokemon..whatever!!
Yet another thing is for people to actually start up the games such as Brawl Snapshot Contest or the Daily Caption game. These things don't really require a mod to be doing it constantly so... i'm looking to everyone... Mod and Member to come up with cool contests and exciting games for us to do.
ONE MORE THING.... is to create a new website. We should leave brian's alone (if not only because we don't have the password to make drastic changes) Several places don't want to associate with just a forum that has no website. Here's what i envision for the website.
Blog Page (Main page) - List of news, and when we release a hack, or just to showcase a member even
Brawl Hacks Page - A list of all the hacks we have crated, a picture of them, a link to their blog entry, and a download link
Role Playing - Something for the RP staff to decide what all to put out there on our site about RP
Team page - Just a small recognition page... one section for our "official hacking team" one section for our RP staff, and one section for our site staff who aren't on the previous 2 sections
Multimedia - Original songs, images, wallpapers, cursors... whatever. They don't have to be brawl themed... just generic whatever from our member base
So... i'm excited about this possiblity and i hope you are too. Please vote to voice your opinion. Ask Questions, and prepare for the future.
