Link followed the children back to Ordon village because he had to. He knew that trouble followed them even when it seemed peaceful. His mind was somewhere else. Astride Epona Links mind flashed back to Midna’s beautiful face full of sadness. He was so distracted by what he thought she was going to say that he didn’t see what she was doing. By the time she did it was to late. She broke the mirror or twilight he’s only way back to her. Midna was not from his world she was from a world connected to his. This world was called the twilight relm. He had been there with her. Helping to save her people. He secretly thought that twilight was more beautiful than his own world.
He thought back to how they had met. He was transformed into a wolf when he went into the twilight and was unconscious. He was put into a cage. Suddenly she was there floating in the air. A beautiful little imp. He didn’t know if she was friend or foe at first but he followed his heart. She agreed to help him save his world and the princess Zelda. They fought many battels together bringing them very close.
Sadness hit him than. He had been with her for so long in imp form. Got to know her heart, got to know her dreams and goals. He had fallen in love with her even before he saw her in her true form. Her beauty nearly knocked him off his feet. He sighed and shifted his weight on his horse. In his mind he just kept thinking there has to be another way back to the twilight relm. Suddenly sounds of cheering broke him from his thoughts.
The children ran toward there families. He smiled as people congratulated him. He watched as his childhood friend embraced her dad. He thought of Ilia like a sister. Loved her like family. He hopped off Epona and greeted people with a smile he didn’t feel like putting on.
As the day turned to night there was a large feast. “Link my boy you look distracted this feast is for you! You are a hero.” The mayor said coming up behind him. Firelight reflected off Links sad eyes. “I am just tired chef I apologies” The mayor pounded him on the back and laughed. “You aught to be with all the stories those children are telling. I have to say thank you for helping my daughter recover her memory she was telling me it was a very scary time for her.”
Link smiled “You are family I would do anything to help” he looked up at the mayor and saw that he was looking at him hard. “I am thinking you are not the same as when you left are you link?” Link shook his head. “No I am not.” The mayor patted his arm. “We will always be here for you, we will forever be in your dept.” Link nodded and stared into the flames.
Later he put Epona beside his house and climbed the latter into his home. Stopping he looked around. It was so quiet he thought. His heart felt so empty. He was missing something. No he was missing someone. “Midna” he said out loud. A lump the size of his fist clogged his throught. “Midna” he repeated. Finally his voice broke and he dropped to his knees and sobbed. He’d never been so close to anyone, never cared about anyone like he did her. After a few minutes he closed his fists tight. “I will find away back to her!” he threw back his head and howled a lonely noise that carried on the wind through the night.
The next morning after packing supplies he jumped on Epona and rode out of Ordon village. He rode fast and didn’t look back, knowing he had to find her. Behind him Ilia watched as he left the village somewhere in her heart knowing that he would not return.
