I find that you have a lot of character just comming out and saying that. Personally my respect dosen't change by you saying that. Thanks, Steele. I looked that up on Google and didn't get a single result, so I'm guessing you are the founder Nessaterangenorism. Correct me if I'm wrong, though... Funny...someone at my school also claims to believe in [his name]-ism. So how many members do you have so far...1? Sorry, I don't worship "Idols," if you get my drift. *blocks roundhouse kick with the Bible* No apologies necessary; I wouldn't have posted this thread in the first place if I weren't ready to explain stuff. Anyways... There are a lot of differences. But the summary of it is this. We believe that after the Apostles were killed, the authority to act in God's name, which we call the Priesthood, was taken from the Earth during the Middle Ages in a time known as the Apostasy. But in the early 1800's, a 14-year-old boy named Joseph Smith living in upstate New York saw the Father and his Son Jesus Christ as two glorified figures in a grove while he was praying to know which church to join, and spoke with them. Eventually, as he became older, an angel told him where to find an ancient record, made of golden plates, buried in a hill. This record gave an account of the original inhabitants of the American continent (known as Indians today) and testified of Christ. Joseph retrieved this record, and with the assistance of a scribe, translated it into English, and published it as The Book of Mormon. Mormon was a prophet from this record who did much of the compiling of the record. The church Joseph Smith formed soon afterward involuntarily obtained the nickname "Mormons" from others, although mainly for negative use. I'll refrain from talking about the next two hundred years, but basically, the Mormon church believes that God never changes, and still speaks to us today through a living prophet. The modern-day prophets have given us many instructions through revelation which differ from most other churches, and also some more commonly-followed commandments (I can give examples of both if anyone wishes). Currently our church follows the prophet Thomas S. Monson (that'll get more Google searches than "Nessaterangendor" guaranteed). We still read the Book of Mormon as regularly as the Bible today, believing it to be the word of God, an addition to the Old and New Testaments of the Bible. So yeah. Sounds pretty darn far-fetched to you, I'd wager. But that's the lowdown. A couple groups, disagreeing with some of our doctrine such as the law forbiding polygamy, seperated from our church and formed small, unsuccessful new ones. Hoped I over-answered your question. Really? Wow! Sorry, you must not have been here the last time religion was discussed. I probably shouldn't have made that assumption about all the new members of this site since then.
