www.cbsnews.com/blogs/2009/05/12/politics/politicalhotsheet/entry5009316.shtmlLong story short, the Senate is thinking of putting a tax on soda to help fund Obama's universal health care plan. I personally have been trying to phase soda out of my diet recently because it's so unhealthy, but I don't feel that this tax is really justified. Taxing soda isn't really going to help America's obesity problem at all. On the other hand, it's a three-cent tax and is a totally negligible amount. So, what's your opinion? Do you drink soda? Are you absolutely devastated? Do you support the tax? What's the best kind of soda? Actually, don't answer that last one. We'll never stay on topic.

Meh, I'm not much of a soda drinker, but this seems.... ridiculous... Its not going to stop people from drinking soda, with that piddly tax. I don't support the tax nor do I hate it... I just feel that its stupid... Also its not going to improve america's health... put a tax on junk-food would be more productive than implementing this soda tax

I drink soda maybe once or twice per week. I don't mind the soda being taxed, but please tax the candy also... It might not be much of a tax, but many people purchase soda and candy. If somehow the Government has a high tax for unhealthy foods, then maybe the obesity rate will come down some.

This idea has been tossed around for quite some time, I think now they're just discussing the possibility of adding the revenue to the health care plan. Personally, I think it'd be a good idea, despite the fact that I'm a hopeless soda addict. Oh woe is me.

I think its a decent idea. I mean.. soda is actually unhealthy for you anyway as is.. there may as well be something beneficial aside from the taste for a change x3

Only $0.03? I say it should be $1.00.
Soda is very unhealthy for you with all the high fructose corn syrup and the acid (usually phosphoric if it's Coca-Cola). Not only can you get diabetes but also tooth decay from it.
So I say they should put a higher tax than just $0.03 on it.
