It sort of was. I agree with the part about the way people receive tv, but the fact of matter is SD tv is slowly becoming obsolete. Like you said some of the shows are cut off (some more severe then others) and if you try playing a HD game on a SD television the text is horrifically small (again, some more than others). And not everyone has money to spend on Converter Boxes (their base price is around 60 bucks unless you get the coupon). Also, I think certain televisions didn't have a digital turner of some sort, so the converter boxes wouldn't have worked.
The point is this is constantly happening in this technical world. A new format pops up, starts off as an optional thing and before you know it BAM! now you have to switch over to it. You can still watch VHS movies but the fact of the matter is it still useless nowadays.

I don't consider 3D as much of a "format" as the others though. Sure, HD is just higher quality and ratio, so it's going to be "better" but 3D at this point is still not better than 2D and even still.. most things will come in 2D and 3D and if you don't have to wear glasses in the future, then you probably won't have to worry about it anyway.
I know that when things evolve, the older ones become obsolete, but that doesn't happen until one thing does happen, the price of it goes down. If DVD players hadn't become accessible and affordable, then VHS would have never officially died. Before 3D ends up making 2D obsolete, it will have to be accessible to the masses and obviously superior. And then, it probably won't matter very much.

Lawl, does anyone remember the Lazer Discs? Anywhoo, I agree with it becoming more affordable, then the switch doesn't matter. Like I believe DVD's are slowly going out and Blu-Rays are slowly coming in. Now if that was to happen I wouldn't mind it because that means Blu_Ray players might go down on price and most people own a PS3 anyways. Quite frankly, I don't mind 3D, but all this take of 3D this-and-that while we just had one major format switch makes me weary. Can we just take it slow....pweaze?

Most people don't own a PS3. Maybe like 20%, and that's pushing it.
3D pisses off a lot of people, so I don't think it will be able to expand much further. Like any other fad, it will continue to grow rapidly and eventually reach a breaking point at which everyone realizes how stupid it is, and fade back out into obscurity. Its not a step forward like HD, its more of a step to the side. Into a ditch.

I disagree. Most of people's annoyances with 3D includes limitations, if the limitations were gotten rid of, things like glasses, expensiveness, and other things.. I don't see it ever actually reaching a breaking point.

Oy, they want to raise the prices of the 3D movies...If I had a link I would provide it.
Hmm, true but I think with the price drop that occurred a few months combined with the recent PS3 drought shows that more people are grabbing PS3s and are going to get a PS3 down the road.
I been hearing a lot on how they want to make the "3D w/o glasses" concept possible. I wonder how they are going to accomplish this, though.
Lawl, but in all fairness, I do not see HD a step forward. The major difference between SD and HD can be seen while watching animated movies or movies with a lot of effects or when your playing video games. Other than to see people's pores, there is no reason for 30 Rock or The Office to be in "HD".

3D is only a dumb fad which became popular thanks to the cash cow that is Avatar, and even then from what I heard, the 3D in that movie wasn't anything special. As a result, other companies jumped on the 3D bandwagon in an incredibly desperate attempt at raking in cash. Give it a year or so and it'll be over and done with.

I'm sorry but I don't think there is a single thing right with this statement. 3D movies have been popular for a while and 3D TV's were already in development before Avatar, and I don't think that in a year we will see much of a difference in people's interest in it.

I partial agree with both of you. While I believe Up might of set the bar for Digital 3D, Avatar might attracted more movie makers to do more Digital 3D movies...But like Angel said, 3D was in before Avatar came about.

"Most people" is still a bit more than pushing it. Of my group of 10-15 friends at school, one owns a PS3.
