I had a fight with one of my closest friends a year ago, and it turned super ugly. Like really, really bad... And I've never had a sense of closure =( I still have very strong feelings about this.
So I want your opinion. To prevent bias, I'm just referring to the people as Christina and Kath. Although I'm sure some of my bias leaks at least a little part.
Warning: It's long and possibly confusing.
First of all, my middle school has two programs, Humanities and Math/Sci. They have seperate classes, except for P.E. and possibly foreign language (depending on which foreign language you picked). In 8th grade, the culminating project of the whole 3 years of the program is to go to New York City with a group for a week and interview some people. The Humanities prograsm was to make a documentary about it and the Math/Sci program was to make a website. In around September, we were supposed to choose our groups. These groups are the groups we'd work with for the whole year on this HUGE project. There were six friends, but each group was supposed to have only 4 members that are Humanities. So we decided to split into 3 and 3, Christina in one group and Kath in another group
Unable to find a proper counterpart math/sci (it was chaos on that half-hour period), we were all to go to this place, where they'd help you get your group completed. One person from Kath's group left to join Christina's group, thereby completing their Humanities part. They got assigned to a math/sci group, who was just beside them, so it was random. Kath's group got two people added to their group, and was also assigned to a math/sci group. Fine? Not quite.
Later, Kath's group decided that they didn't like their math/sci group (remember that it was assigned), so they talked with Christina's group about switching math/sci groups. Meanwhile, Christina's group was complaining about how they hated their math/sci group and how they were lazy and didn't do any work. To switch groups, signatures from every member of the group was required. Every signature was collected through hard campaigning except from Christina.
Christina didn't really want Kath's group's math/sci group, so she said she'd wait to consider it. A week passed, and Kath very much wanted Christina's group's math/sci part, in part because she was friends with and knew the members of that group, and because she had a crush on one of the members. Christina's math/sci group also really wanted to be with Kath's group because like said before, they were friends.
Christina held out her decision for another week. Christina finally decided that she didn't want to sign. She told Kath's group and they were outraged, (along with Christina's math/sci group). When asked for a reason, Christina didn't say why. She said, "This group was assigned to us, so you have no reason to switch with us."
Kath's group believed that there as no reason for Christina to make that choice except that she wanted power. By this point, the math/sci group of Christina's group was quite hostile to Christina's humanities group. Kath and her friend Lucia, who was also in Kath's group, started arguing with Christina. Kath had close friends in Christina's group (remember that we split 6 friends), but they sided with Christina. Christina had talked with the friends first, so when Kath talked with her friends, they still sided with Christina. There was a LOT of heated arguing and name-calling (immature, I know, but we were all pissed as heck), so we went to a teacher. The teacher said that because one person didn't sign, the groups couldn't be switched.
A person from Christina's math/sci group, named Shahzeb, put a site in his Gmail stat message (out of school). It was one of those sites in which you just put someone's name and "just got owned" or something, and pictures are generated with that person's name in the pictures, saying that they got owned. Shahzeb put in Christina's name, so that all the pics were of "Christina" getting owned.
Christina was offended and took this to the counselor, saying that it really hurt her feelings. Kath's group thought that Christina was lying since she really hated Shahzeb by this point. Shahzeb and Chrisitna had exchanged some nasty insults on Gchat before. She also said that posting this link in his Gmail status, in which anybody could see it (really only his friends) was giving her name out on the internet and could be dangerous.
The counselor called Shahzeb up and some other people to question them about this incident. Shahzeb was banned from going on the New York trip, received 2 after school detentions until 6PM, and his parents took away his computer (not just for a week). Shahzeb was obviously devastated, as anybody would be if somebody took away their computer. He also played WoW, etc. Shahzeb was part of the math/sci program; the whole math/sci program (60 students) stood up and was completely rude to Christina for what they believed was stretching the truth a lot and getting Shahzeb that punishment.
Kath and Christina unforunately had last names close to eachother, so their lockers were close. Kath had vowed never to talk to Christina again, shunning her. When Kath walked past Christina on her way to her first period, Christina said "You deserved it." Shahzeb was crying, and Kath cried for 3 periods (literally). She stopped before her last period, which was with Christina, because she didn't want Christina to see her tears. Christina said on her blog that Kath and Shahzeb was just trying to get attention and getting people to pity them by crying.
In the end, Shahzeb's parents read through his Gmail chats, and forgave their son because they believed it really wasn't Shahzeb's fault. However, Christina's math/sci group still wasn't allowed to be with Kath's group because well...obviously she wouldn't sign by now. The groups were rearranged and split up, since Christina's group could definitely nawt work together after all that fighting. I guess Christina got everything she wanted.
Kath's group got an all girl group, and same for Christina's group. Christina and Kath never made up again. Christina stared at Kath during the only period they had together everyday for the rest of the year, trying to get Kath to at least look in her direction, but Kath refused, and just kept looking at the teacher. They parted at high school, as one person got into an IB school, and the other didn't.
Okay, I'm missing a lot of information, but it's almost impossible for me not to be biased. So sorry. But... who do you think was "right" or "wrong"? Or who was "right" in some aspects but "wrong" in others? And dammit, it sounds stupid when I recount it. It's just that the New York trip was everything to us. Be honest and I'll love you <3
Edit: I forgot to say that Christina said she'd sign if they bought a pizza for her, to share with her real friends that sided with her. Kath refused.
