This is very sad to hear.
However, Ejak.. the sad truth this that the most you can possibly do is sit down and talk to him slowly. Explain to him how him smoking while he continues to only damage himself makes you feel. Tell him that you care so much about him and can't stop thinking of the fact he's slowly dying in front of your eyes. Tell him everything your feeling, and don't leave anything out. Be honest with him and just let your heart guide you.
If that doesn't work.. then there is nothing else you can do. Just try your best, and if he continues to do these things.. then at least you know you tried. He's his own person in the end, and the most you can do is try to be there for him.

Woah that's intense but I doubt he might change his ways. Though, i say show him pictures of what smoking does to one's body. Heck maybe if show him how many people die from smoking. It's a bit cruel but maybe it give him an awakening

Personally, some people get annoyed when you show them the pictures because it seems to them that your trying to manipulate them to getting what you want, or doubting their intelligence. It's a tough call.

True the only option is try your hardest, if you really care about your friend, and take to an intervention/rehab. He needs help

All I can think of is just keep talking to him or go to his family and the family could sit down with him and tell him how much they love him and want him to live. This sounds mean but I think he would be safe in jail...I don't mean to be mean, but it is a safe place for him and maybe he might get rid of those bad habits....

Talk to him, pray for him, talk to his PARENTS, pray for him, have your parents talk to him and his parents. If none of the things work, then..I hate to sound ruthless but...
Screw him. He did it to himself and now he's paying consequences.
However, I'll pray for him, yew keep talking.

Do whatever you can to help him.. but if he decides to keep doing what he's doing, leave him be.

Your friend might not know what is really going on. As I remember from health class, when people smoke/drugs, their brains act as if they depend on the drugs. I think that is what is getting to him. Once he can get rid of those habits, his brain would realize that it does not depend on the drugs no more.
