Recently there was some discussion as to why Rock Band 2 drums suck. I would like to respectfully disagree in saying that they don't suck, but they do out of the box. I've done just two simple modifications to mine that have made them 10 times better, and I've even posted pictures 
This is my drum set. As you can see, I splurged a little and bought the cymbal 3 pack, and to tell the truth, they work really well. I've never got a double hit or a dropped note and they're loads of fun. The sharp player might see the first modification I've made, but if not, I'll do a close up.
Normally, on the outside of the drum heads, there is a plastic ring that really gets in the way of playing. I would constantly hit it, messing up my playing, and it made this really annoying plastic sound when hit. So, I simply took off the drum heads, unscrewed some screws, and the rings came right off. The heads are much better now, and I've actually gotten no dropped notes after I did this.
The last modification you can't see in the pictures because it's the foot pedal.
When coming up after a pedal kick, there is a big plastic piece (The orange thing) that makes a loud CLACK noise when it hits against the plastic base. To fix that, I simply slipped a single gause pad found in any first-aid kit, and wrapped a bit of electrical tape around it. The pedal is now super quiet, never double hits, or drops notes. It works perfectly.
