Chapter 18: Destined Date with the Divine.
Despite their ruler being absent, the toads within Peach’s Castle were carrying about normal business. The cleaning and re-construction of the walls Wario had destroyed were in full swing. However inside Mario’s quarters, a toad was sweeping the floor when he beheld a strange sight. A line of light began to form along the wall, a door with a flat handle appeared around the light. Suddenly, the door flew open, and out of it came the flat black face of Mr. Game and Watch. He looked around and rang his bell madly. He seemed to be in a panic. The toad cleared his throat and spoke.
Toad: “Um, hello? Who are you?”
GW: “The name’s Game and Watch…..where’s Mario? I need Mario! This is urgent.”
Toad: “Well, I’m sorry but He and the rest went to find Wario. There have been a lot of strange and dangerous occurrences lately.”
GW: “d**n! Yeah, no kidding, Utopia’s been corrupted.”
Toad: “Utopia?”
GW: “Never mind, I gotta find him quickly. I’ll just keep looking. Thanks”
As quickly as he appeared, Mr. Game and Watch slammed the door and the wall returned to normal.

Ridley was speeding his was across the galaxy. His desire for destruction had only been heightened by the devastation he caused to Icicle Mountain, and his new found fire abilities. He searched for another planet to feel his wrath. His eye caught a distant blue planet. He spread his wings and began to soar towards it. He shot fireballs at nearby comets as he flew.
Closer and closer he drew towards the planet, when he happened upon someone he did not anticipate. Before him floated a white alien with antennae and long waving arms and legs. They floated in space staring at each other. They examined each other and felt the power within. Both could sense Zankor’s power within the other. Deciding the dragon was an ally, Giygas spoke.
Giygas: “Space Dragon, I see we both were chosen by the Destroyer. You must be very important in your world.”
Ridley roared with pride as he conjured up flames within his palm.
Giygas: “I see you do not speak any language. No matter. You had your eye upon this planet as well?”
Ridley growled as he nodded his head. Both turned and looked toward the planet. Gigyas places one tentacle-like arm to his forehead and closed his eyes, scanning the planet.
Giygas: “Well, I’ve scanned the world, and there are several significant sources of power, but two of them are more profound than the others. The most powerful is flying around the atmosphere. Must be some form of dragon for it to be flying that high. The other is a dark mysterious power from a cave off the beaten path. I propose we split up. You take the dragon in the sky, and I’ll take the being in the cave. Perhaps one of them will team up with us.”
Ridley screeched into the air as he nosedived towards the atmosphere in search of the dragon.
Giygas: “I’ll take that as a yes. This world had better prepare itself for destruction.”

The last of the trio of light orbs shot across the stars and through an asteroid belt. As the rocks pummeled its exterior, the orb began to shake violently. Suddenly lasers shot out of it, and the orb peeled away to reveal a small ship. The pilot was desperately trying to stabilize the out-of-control vessel. Alarms rang out as it entered the atmosphere of a local planet. Unsure if he would survive the crash, the pilot let go of the wheel and held tightly to his seat. His landing however was very soft. He looked out of his window to see nothing but white. What could have happened? He hit the eject button and was expelled into the sky.
The sight amazed him. There was no ground anywhere. On the contrary, his ship was stuck in the middle of a giant cloud. He held his breath as he fell back down, but found the cloud to be solid. It strangely supported his weight. He began to scratch his head in confusion, but realized he had been in stranger worlds before. He held out his hand and conjured his sword. This was no ordinary sword however. It was in the shape of a giant key. As he observed the land of clouds, this Sky World, he heard a gruff voice behind him.
Centurion: “Halt there you! You’re trespassing on the sacred lands of the goddess Palutena!”
Sora: “Goddess? Well, it’s not entirely my fault, because as you can see, the Gummi Ship kind of crashed here.”
Centurion: “That’s no excuse. Centurions seize him!”
Sora fresh off a fight of heartless was used to this type of treatment. He raised his keyblade and shot fire from the end of it. Several centurions were hit by the attack, but several more appeared. Sora began to swing the keyblade madly at the horde of centurions. In all his journeys, only heartless and other evil doers ever tried to capture innocent by-standers. As the fight waged on, Sora realized he was vastly outnumbered as more centurions appeared than he defeated. As the centurions swarmed Sora, one delivered a blow to the back of the head. Sora fell onto the cloud below him. Quickly, the centurions tied him up and took the keyblade. He awoke to find himself dangling from ropes of the flying centurions. They were heading towards a large building set upon an even larger cloud.
The large doors of the palace opened for the flying guards and promptly slammed behind them. Sora fell to the floor as the centurions let go and flew into nearby rooms. The lead centurion however stood beside Sora holding the keyblade.
Centurion: “You stay here, scum. If you move an inch I’ll take this blade and..”
Pit: “ AND DO EXACTLY WHAT?”
Centurion: “Captain Pit! I had no clue you were there or else I would have.
Pit: “You would have treated this person better? How many times do I have to tell you.”
Centurion: “Forgive me Captain Pit.”
Pit: “Here, give me that and head back to your post.”
The Centurion reluctantly handed over the keyblade and flew into the next room. Pit used the sharp end of his bow to cut open the ropes that bound Sora. Sora struggled to his feet and tossed the ropes into the corner of the room.
Pit: “Sorry about them. Ever since the whole Medusa incident two months ago, they’ve been on edge…slightly maniacal to be perfectly honest. They keep me busy.”
Sora: “No worries! I’ve had much worse for welcoming committees. Where exactly are we?”
Pit: “This is Sky World. The name’s Pit. I’m sure you’ve heard from the centurions that this is the palace of our goddess Palutena. I’m the captain of her armed forces. Who are you? I’ve never seen you before.”
Sora: “I’m Sora, the bearer of the keyblade. I was flying the Gummi Ship on the way to Hollow Bastion, when a portal opened up in front of me. I couldn’t avoid it. The portal began to suck me in and next thing I know I’m in the middle of an asteroid field, and I crash land here in the clouds”
Pit: “A mystic portal? Hollow Bastion? I’ve never heard of that place before. You must be from another galaxy or something. There’s no Hollow Bastion here in our galaxy. This is very strange…very strange indeed. Here, take your blade back. This is very disturbing that portals are appearing and spewing people from other Galaxies into ours. My goddess is in the throne room with several other deities from our galaxy. Perhaps they are discussing this very thing. She should know some way to help.”
Pit handed the keyblade back to Sora and both took a seat near the door to the throne room. They both sat and talked about their adventures. Pit spoke of his epic battle with Medusa, while Sora told of his ongoing struggles with the heartless. An hour later, the doors opened, and 5 deities issued from the door. Three females had a golden color to their skin. One was wearing red, the second blue, and the third green. A large white beast with a yellow structure around his midsection floated in the air speaking through psychic powers. The last of them was the most beautiful of all. The goddess Palutena had long green hair, wore a white dress, and carried a staff. She spoke to the other deities.
Palutena: “Thank you for your time. Din, Farore, Nayru, Arceus, I shall follow through with the plan. See you next time.”
The four gods disappeared as Palutena turned to face Pit. Sora stared up at her, but was dragged down to kneel with Pit.
Pit: “My goddess, this is Sora. He seems to be from another galaxy and has crash landed here. We were hoping you could help.”
Palutena: “Well hello, Sora. It’s a good thing you showed up. I intend upon helping you the best I can, but perhaps you could help dear Pit with the task I am to assign him. Both of you please follow me into the Throne room and have a seat. I wish to tell you what myself and the other gods were discussing.”
Pit and Sora immediately stood up and followed Palutena into the throne room. They sat opposite of Palutena with a basin of liquid between them. Palutena waved her hand over the liquid which instantly turned black. As soon as it had turned black, something began to form within it. Before there eyes, They saw the giant red form of Zankor holding his sword and flying through space. Palutena looked into Pit and Sora’s face and began to speak.
Palutena: “There has been a terrible evil unleashed upon our galaxy. We have been following his activities, but have delayed intervening until now. This was not the form he originally appeared in. He once looked as a man in a black cloak. Now he has become this dragon demon. He has been recruiting both villains from our worlds and even the innocent puppet, Geno. He goes by the name Zankor. He and his team have been destroying our planets one by one. Pop Star and Icicle Mountain are two of these now destroyed planets. Not only that, but one of his minions created a rip in space and time. The wretch was pulled into the void and three orbs were expelled from it. I believe you were within one of the orbs. The only question remaining about you is, where is Black Shadow? There are a couple of theories. He is either somewhere in a galaxy from where one of the three orbs came from, he is trapped in the void between worlds, or the rip consumed him in order to remain open. Reguardless, the rip remains open and thus you should be able to return home through that rip.
This point alone is not what disturbs me. There is a legend passed down through the generations and the gods of a great hero who could speak to the gods. He contained great power until he called upon the wrong god, Apocalypse, the god of the dead. Apocalypse apparently stuck a deal with this hero to gain him more power if he would destroy a planet that had gone astray from his wishes. According to this legend, the power Apocalypse gave him was too much and drove him mad. It stated that he would travel from galaxy to galaxy destroying all the worlds until there were none left.
As you can see, this legend does fit Zankor to some extent. But something worries me about this legend. I told you the version that men have spread, but as with all legends, certain elements were purposely left out or mistakenly forgotten. Apocalypse was known not only as the god of the dead, but the god of destruction. He generally reigned over fear and desolation. He was describes as the lord of lies, the deity of deception, and the master of facade. Having been called all of these names, who knows if Apocalypse was just another name for him? On top of that, the legend never says that Apocalypse has never been heard from since his “run in” with this hero.”
Pit: “I see….Do you think this Zankor could in fact be the Apocalypse from the legend?”
Palutena: “That’s exactly what we deduced Pit.
Sora: “Something about the legend doesn’t seem to fit. How could this “hero” they speak of call upon the wrong god? I mean, I’ve never called upon a god before, but I think it would be fairly hard to mess up and call on the wrong one.”
Palutena: “A very good point, Sora. And that was one point we brought up during our meeting. Noone has ever called upon us in error.”
Pit: “So, my goddess, what is it you ask of me?”
Palutena: “The Hylian goddesses, Arceus and I have once again decided that this god needs to be destroyed.”
Sora: “Once again decided?”
Palutena: “Yes. There used to be two additional amongst us. One of them as from the Land of Fire, and the other was Medusa from here within my kingdom. The Fire Lord began to show evil tendencies and soon began to torture the citizens of his planet. Destruction is one thing, but he began to torture people for years. They were begging for death, but he would refuse to see the torture last even longer. Once they eventually died, he kept their bones in a room beside his throne as a trophy of all the pain he had caused. It was a dark time for the Land of Fire. We feared he would soon tire of his own people and move on to other lands.
So the six remaining met to decide his fate. Together we created two items. One was a stone in which could entrap gods. The other was a magnificent blade. This Deity Sword is the most effective way to destroy a god completely. Yes, there are ways to destroy gods, but we infused our powers and discoveries into the sword to make it the absolute best. The Hylian Goddesses created and formed the actual blade. Farore infused the power of teleportation into the blade. Arceus used his Cosmic Power. This gave the bearer of the blade the ability to make their skin harder than iron. A strong defense is key when confronting a god, especially for a mortal. Medusa added a godly poison to the blade. Once stabbed, it would only take a matter of minutes for the poison to effect the body and kill. I however dipped the blade in my mortality serum. This serum can be molded into any form and when dripped upon a god, it shall turn them temporarily mortal. Adding this to the blade meant that you could completely destroy a god with one stab.
After a long debate, we decided to put the sword away. It was far too powerful and desirable for any one, even fellow gods. So we decided to act against the Fire Lord and entrap him within the stone, left in his prison for all of eternity. The citizens of the Land of Fire think of this stone as a great treasure as is symbolized their freedom from the tyrannical Fire Lord”
Palutena stood up and placed both hands over the basin. As she did a blue arrow appeared from the water and floated into her hands.
Palutena: “Pit, this arrow is made of the same mortality serum. I wish for you to go the the land of Hyrule and seek princess Zelda. I know Hyrule has become madness as the barriers have been broken, but try your hardest. The Zelda you seek originally dwelt in the Twilit Hyrule. Your Arrow shall lower his immortality, and if followed immediately by her light arrows, which drive evil out, it shall destroy him. Sora, since you have a space ship, I was hoping you would be able to aid Pit in this quest. He would arrive much more swiftly if by space craft.”
Sora: “I’m on it!”
Palutena: “Excellent, my centurions are pulling your craft out of the cloud as we speak. Good luck! Time is of the essence, as Zankor is on the move back to Hyrule. His anger has reached a pinnacle as he replays his battle with the Ganondorfs in his mind. I’m sure he will destroy Hyrule as soon as he gets there.”
Pit and Sora bowed once more before Palutena as they ran out of the palace and on towards the Gummi Ship. Both heroes climbed into the Gummi Ship. Sora started the engine as Pit examined the mortality arrow before placing it his quiver. The centurions backed away as the Gummi Ship blasted into the sky and on towards Hyrule.
