So, since this book is apparently extremely good and immensely popular, I've started to read it. But some people tell me it's a "girl book." I can tell it's a vampire story, and therefore involves love, but not sure that makes it qualify as a "girl book". Anyone who's already read it and can share their opinion?

I've read it before, it's rather good, but if you're after action you'll be disappointed. It's DEFINETLY more of a romance than a vampire story, there's actually not that much action (by that I mean fighting) in the book, the best parts come from the romantic and the revealing sides of the story. Also, it's one of those books where it doesn't get really good until pretty far in the book (the idea of vampires doesn't even show up until triple digit pages [ex. pg 113, I think, maybe, okay it was a guess]). It's a book that takes patience, but there is some cool vampire stuff going on. But if you're a person that just CAN'T STAND romantic books, I would wait for the movie to come out.
So I guess it's not REALLY a pure girl book through and through, but one that is mostly focused on a girl audience, due to the fact that it does throw male readers a juicy vampire bone every once in a while.

Don't worry, I'm not an action-o-holic; actually, I like plot development more. But I can see what you mean by it takes patience. I think you're right about the audience thing too because of the shopping stuff; have you read the other 3?

I haven't ever read it, but my gf is freakin obsessed with it. She would dump me for Edward Cullen if he existed. but srsly, almost every girl i know is obsessed with that series. Basically what i've picked up, its a vampire story with a lot of romance. Too much for my liking...

No, I only read Twilight, I'm trying to get the other three, but my local library is amazingly good at getting books stolen

i never read it, and i probably never will. not that its a bad book or anything, im sure its very good, but it is way too overhyped. check out almost any page of pieces of flair on facebook, and you'll see one for Twilight.
then again, if one of my <cough>friends<cough> wants to go see it, i would offer to go with her, and i wouldnt really mind seeing it.
and bob, if you do read it and it has a really good plot, tell me, i like stories like that too, and most of the time the books are better, or more plot developing, then the movies.

The series is great. I am halfway done with the 3rd book in the series. At first I was wondering why all the girls were into that series, so I decided to read the first book and now I am hooked into the series. I am trying to get my bf to read it since he likes romance, but I recommed this book to anyone. Just try a few chapters and see if you like it.

I tried reading it and watching the movie. To me, it looked like some fan fiction got published.

Alright, I've finished the entire series, and here's my opinions: 1. Twilight, I'll be honest, shouldn't have been such a phenomenon by itself. Vampires are not an original idea, or vampire love, or modern vampires. Like everyone's said, there's basically the one action scene at the end, and...well, Bella is unconscious during it in the book, of course. The romance was too much for me because I can't relate to the two main characters hardly at all. All the girls relate themselves to Bella, but how do us guys relate to a "perfect" person like Edward? Sorry, but I just can't feel any sympathy toward him. *spoilers from here on out* 2. New Moon: MUCH better than the first. Out of the four, my second favorite. It's apparently supposed to be really sad because of Edward's absence, but I just thought it was amusingly pathetic how Bella can't get a life because of the self-pity she wallows in after losing one flipping boyfriend. I really, really liked Jacob, too. The Werewolf rivalry concept actually gave this series some originality, and his personality is to die for. 3. Eclipse was like a combination of the first two. It was kind of repetitive at times like Twilight, but featured plenty of Jacob like New Moon. I liked the confrontations, but was a bit annoyed how Jacob was painted as the jealous loser and Edward as the calm superstar hero who never holds grudges. I can actually relate to Jacob more than anyone else in the series even though my nature is vastly different from his; I, too, know what it's like to wish you could be with someone but know you probably won't be able to be. 4. Breaking Dawn: The first 1-2 hundred pages were nothing special, marriage, honeymoon, blah blah blah. Make sure you're not a pervert before reading this book, because there are certain scenes you should really try not to...visualize...too vividly. But although this was weirder than the other three combined, almost all the epicness of the series, about 85%, I'd say, was concentrated into this one. It kept me reading constantly. I LOVED the section from Jacob's perspective so very much; he is so blunt and humorous all the time, and from his conversations with Rosalie, I now have several new Blonde jokes at my disposal (no offense to anyone). The ending confrontation was surprising in several ways, especially in the way it was resolved. I won't spoil that part for anybody. It was intense, and now I actually hope they keep making movies so that they can do this one. Definitely the strangest but best culminating masterpiece of the Twilight series.
