OK i'm riding the fence here.....which may surprise some of you that i'm not leaping to Angel's aid... let me explain here.
1. Rules by personal judgment are BAD -
no rule should ever be put in place that leaves it up to personal judgment. i 100% agree with Stif's point here. Devaux could look at one thing and think it not too bad, while Angel will look at it and think OMGWTF BAN!!! Also leaving it up to personal judgment also puts into play what's going on in a person's life. Cell could be experiencing a migraine, KoD could be depressed again, and either could find something they would normally deem acceptable as totally unacceptable due to their current mental or physical state. People could just be whiney betches for no reason and find a problem with basically anything, or someone could have a personal vendetta against someone and find any reason at all to ban them just for their own good. I would hope that our staff would be above that but unfortunately anything is possible and there has been blatant misuse of power in some of us (yes..myself included once) We need something that is more set in stone...or at least an attempt at something other than "a mod's judgment"
2. Save the children with happiness and sunshine - Ah yes, the old "for the kids" line... the one every overbearing mother wants to hear. Basically... HERE MA'AM let's bend over backwards and ignore our rights as Americans (yes i know some of you are from other countries) so that you don't have to do your job in monitoring what your child does/reads/watches. if a 10 year old is going to 4-chan, then obviously either the parents don't care or they aren't doing their job.
It's not our place to determine what is good or what is not for someone else's child.
3. I was offended - Boo-Frickety-Hoo!! Everyone's going to be offended at multiple times throughout their life... Unless you become a congressman who can decide to put thousands of dollars into legislation against Barbie and Truck Balls, then the chances are you're going to be offended and their isn't a thing you can do about it. AWWW little Bobby got offended by my words.. News Flash...welcome to the real world bobby.... it sucks and people are generally not nice...the sooner you get used to this fact the sooner you can move on with your life and attempt to find some happiness in it. Why should i have to change my nonchalant behavior in the off chance that some random person might be offended by it??? NOW HAVING SAID THAT... for example, i know Angel doesn't like it when the word gay is used as a derogatory statement....Should i consciously use it in her presence?? NO that's inconsiderate and just being a general @$$. That would cause major strife and i would expect a warning and a ban if continued...... on the flip side, should Angel become extremely offended and shout out if i happen to still accidentally say it in her presence?? ABSOLUTELY NOT. Both sides need to show restraint....
Just because one person is offended doesn't mean the world needs to change... that person needs to give in some too and simply ignore it if it isn't persistent and isn't obviously being used to get to that person. A couple of side notes to point 3. Some people are offended by MULTIPLE things... we can't just shoot down every single minute thing that someone is offended about... if i knew that there were 10 different topics that someone was offended about, i'd be thinking WTF is their problem and it would prompt me to WANT to talk about them just because this other person is being that way. Also i should probably just say this on MSN but i won't... Angel ...i luv ya but...... i'd appreciate it if you'd quit dangling The Sheik over our heads. That was a long time ago and we have changed since then. We screwed up and there is no need to keep bringing it back up again. Yes we were wrong, yes the majority was wrong, but seriously, please stop dangling that over our heads as a "look see...you screwed up" i don't THINK that's what you're trying to do by bringing it up but that's definitely what it comes across as.
4. The Rules of Proboards - I don't know the exact quote but there is something on the Proboards official rules and regs for ALL proboards that makes it against the rules of ANY proboards to have sexual topics and the like. I'm sure they are meaning.. don't make this a porn site, but still this whole topic of Innuendo kinda falls under that blanket category. What if Proboards management decided to randomly go to different proboards of theirs and check them out... then they come here see all the sexual talk on the c-box and shut us down. YES that's extreme and i highly doubt it would ever happen but it makes you think about it.
5. PG-13 - The Board needs to be PG-13 rated.......which makes me LOL because... HOW MANY PG-13 movies have blatant innuendo throughout the entire film? Some even have majorly sexual content in it. so the whole PG-13 argument needs to be thrown out cause PG-13 does include innuendo.
6. Children are different now - Time for me to put on the grandpa pants....... Back in my day...when i was 13... none of us knew what sex was.... innuendo was hardly caught when it was mentioned and if it was it was immature snickering at the short version of Richard. When i was as young as most of you... it wasn't till about 17 that you even started hearing of people doing sexual things that often or girls getting pregnant that young.... now that might have just been my environment but the old days were different.... kids now days..... i saw on the news that kids are getting sexually active at 12... WTF!!!!!!! I kid you not on the news some company did a survey of 6th graders and the majority of them were sexually active. That was completely unheard of back in the day. HECK they even have a tv show on Fox now about a 15 year old pregnant girl. Point i'm making with this is...we don't need to worry bout that stuff with the younger kids as much as we used to because they already know.....the world does enough.
So, in short
Should the rule stay? YES
Should the rule remain as it is? NO
Should we allow innuendo? YES to an extent
Should we let it run rampant and often? ABSOLUTELY NOT
A change in the rule does need to be made.... i don't know what exactly but we need to make it so that people can joke and say what they want within reason....without having highly offensive matters put across, and without having 10 minute innuendo festivals on the c-box
